I just got my November Issue of GameInformer and they already have a review for Mass Effect. 9.75. They loved the game except that the only thing that brought down the score to 9.75 is the combat, apperently battles are over before you start them, the A.I is somewhat stupid ,i.e. your team mates shooting at walls, running into walls, enemies not quite up to speed with you and that it's not quite as fun as they hoped it would be, other than that, the story, character custimazations, visuals and everythging else is awesome, main story will take anywhere from 18 to 30 hours to complete but i'm sure if you like to explore the game all together will take about 50 hours to complete. I'm very excited to play this game, and i guess i'll just have to wait and see what they're talking about on the gameplay to decide wether or not it's as bad as they say, other than that i can't wait to buy this game :)

There are some big negatives in your post, but it got a 9.75. sure you're not exaggerating the review a bit?

I have the GI issue at home. It got a 9.75, so you have no one to blame but GI.

took it straight out of the magazine, your team mates shoot at walls, that's what i thought too, why would they give it a 9.75 if the combat is so bad, maybe it's not as bad as they made it sound. but they say battles are really short :(, that sux, and oh yea, after the first few hours you have seen everything there is too see about abilities and powers :(,

I agree, those negatives really do sound like a bit more than .25 of a knock down to me.. but maybe combat is a very small appeal of the game?

sorry, but it's just how it is, i wish it weren't like that either, but nonetheless i'm still excited to play it, every game has its flaws, so it's okay

If the story can make up for it, then I'm down to buy the game.

well to be fair KOTOR's battles didn't last that long either unless you were fighting a boss, and we all know that game ****ing dominates the universe. jade empire had some "****ty" combat too and it was still good cuz of the other qualities that bioware emphases in their games : the story. the story and the conversation abilities alone will make up for any combat problems and it'll most definitely be worth your money

I think games in general are getting scores that are too high. It seems every game that comes along that has a little bit of hype behind it is a 9.5 or higher. Obviously every game has it's flaws, but they were able to pick quite a few out in the gameplay.

This game is clearly a must-buy for 360 owners (and yes, if i owned a 360 I'd be first in line to get this game) but it just seems like games in this "next-gen" era are getting some inflated scores. I can't imagine what scores games will be getting when developers are able to reach full potential on the 360 and PS3 respectively.

i agree, it seems like the newer games just cause they're "next-gen" automatically get high scores, but you have to look beyond the awesome visuals and get straight into the actual core of the game, story, gameplay, and other things to really grade it for what it's actually worth, but visuals and sound do count for something too, but they're not everything

I want multiple endings too. Not two lame ones.

apperently u can actually make a decision that dooms the whole galaxy, endangers earth, kills of certain species, lets humans be recognized as great people so on and so forth, so i hope that means their are probably more than 5 endings, i'm hoping for about 10 for replay value, yea the story is supossed to be epic, one of the greates sci-fi stories ever written, i hope GI didn't exxagerate on that!

It's probably one main ending, but with certain decisions you can affect major characters and plots along the way.

this is gonna be like KOTOR's story on steroids. just buy the ****ing game, like i said jade empire sucked in combat but the game itself was good. same is gonna happen with this game apparently

I'll be honest, as a consumer I love the idea of multiple endings, but as guy with hundreds of things backlogged I'm happy just having one ending so I can get the game over and done with and move on :)

Still haven't even tried out those other Disgaea endings, and I love that game.

I just don't hope that they are running out of ideas. In KOTOR you could doom that entire fish/water planet officially killing their race. I hope it's not just some redone story like that.
