Before we start, I want to thank Julio for doing this so well, and all the voters.
Hey, do any of the HMX guys vote? Just asking.
In The Red Corner, we have the much loved band by nerds/geeks, (which makes sence cause Rush themselves are nerds/geeks), the band who's talent is only rivaled by Zeppelin and The Who, featuring the best drummer alive, the Greatest Canadian band, RUSH!!!!!!!!!!
In The Blue Corner, we have four englishmen who changed the world forever through music, with 3 of the greatest songwriters, and a bassist that rivals even Geddy Lee, the most succesful band of all time, The Fab Four, THE BEATLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A sample of the Beatles work. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHChc2I7FKk)
A sample of Rush's work. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gVrX9H44J8&feature=related)
Don't vote for one just because they are an underdog, in this match,
THERE IS NO UNDERDOG!
I vote for The Beatles, just so you know.
EVERYBODY VOTE!
IT'S THE FINAL BATTLE
DO-DO-DO-DO, DO DO DO DO DO, DO DO DO DO
THE FINAL BATTLE!!!!!!

If there is any justice in the world, The Beatles should win this in a landslide.

This is going to be a landslide. I am going to have to go with the band I actually listen to, which is Rush.
Let the landslide for the Beatles begin.

I had to vote for Rush. I like The Beatles' music and respect what they did to change music in general, but I simply enjoy more of Rush's music.
Loucifel
06-12-2008, 04:42 PM
Voted Rush (which actually brought them up in the lead o.o). Didn't really have to think here, Rush for me isn't rivaled by any other band than Iron Maiden. The Beatles are great, and they sure did a lot for music, but I just don't enjoy them enough to vote them over Rush.

It should be Maiden instead of Rush.
I go with The Beatles. I love Rush, but The Beatles win this one easily.

The Beatles should win for what they did to music. Plus I just plain enjoy their music more.
Rush is still awesome, though.
I voted beatles, because rush has the musical talent of an egg
i loved that south park spoof BTW.
"My name is Geddy Lee goddamit, And I can sing whatever lyrics I want!"

Well most important to me is songs, and second is vocals. Beatles are just about the best there is for both separately, but in combination just about can't be matched. So this one's not hard for me, although I have to say I have reached a point where the Rush songs are some of my favs to play in Rock Band.
So, Beatles it is for me.

I'm just wondering how rush got here i know that the most difficult road belonged to pink floyd having to go through zeppelin and then lost to the beatles so the question is who did rush have to go through.

I will say this for Rush, I love Rush. I saw them last year in concert I'm going to see Rush again this year. I picked up bass specifically after I listen and seen Rush in concert. I own about nine of Rush's albums and I plan on getting the rest of them this summer. Geddy Lee is one of my favorite singers, don't know why exactly but he is. I'm a Rush fan to the core of my body and I have a feeling I will be for years to come. However I voted for the Beatles.
After all, Rush may not even be around if it wasn't for the Beatles forming. I admire them for having a big influence on rock music in general. I feel that each member have some talent. I will vote for who should win. Although if this were perhaps a poll for a matter of taste, Rush will win every time in a heart beat. :D
Edit: Also, Rush went through Genesis, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Radiohead, and Iron Maiden.

While the Beatles did have a very profound effect on music I CAN'T STAND THEM. Rush, for me, wins in every category. Instrumental, vocal, songwriting, the works. So no contest, Rush all the way.

The Beatles. They have WAY more good songs (imo of course) than Rush. I still like Rush and I just saw them live last month, but they are nowhere near the level of Beatles.

That's kinda cool, didn't know that. Though it must be pointed out that KISS' gold & platinum awards are suspect and may be false. Gene, ever the sharp business man, made sure that the KISS albums always shipped Gold so the awards are based on that and not actual sales figures. In fact most of the albums wound up being sent back to the record company and/or wound up in cutout bins back in the day.

Lennon/McCartney was the best songwrither duo of the last century.
Need to be careful to qualify statements like this. Burt Bacharach and Hal David were pretty awesome. And then you go back to George and Ira Gershwin, or Rodgers and Hart or Rodgers and Hammerstein.
If you qualify it to rock songwriters you have a pretty strong case. But Mick and Keith have a pretty impressive catalog, too.

The Beatles vs. Rush
Bass: The Beatles < Rush. Paul McCartney stands no chance against Geddy Lee.
Guitar: The Beatles < Rush. Lifeson is highly underrated, and beats George Harrison.
Drums: The Beatles < Rush. Only person who can contest Peart is Moon. Not Ringo.
Vocals: The Beatles > Rush. Geddy is an acquired taste, where the Beatles are just plain good.
Songwriting: The Beatles = Rush. The Beatles did have (far) better lyrics, but then again, musically, its hard to top Rush. I can almost guarantee that the Beatles could have never written a masterpiece like 2112.
My vote: Rush.

Bass: The Beatles > Rush. While Geddy is the more technical of the two, I think Paul is better. To quote a post I saw somewhere else on this forum, "Paul played bass like a white Jamerson", which is a pretty succinct summation of why I chose him over Geddy.
Guitars: The Beatles = Rush. I think Alex, John, and George are all equally matched. Alex is (again) more technical, but he is usually overshadowed by Neil and Geddy in most of Rush's songs, whereas The Beatles' music doesn't focus on just one instrument. A true symbiotic relationship.
Drums: The Beatles > Rush. Ringo is a human metronome. Neil is a drumming god, but sometimes I think he goes a little overboard. Restraint is the key!
Vocals: The Beatles > Rush. The Beatles had three excellent vocalists and one good one. I like Geddy's voice, but I like the way The Beatles harmonized; not only with their voices, but also with the music and lyrics.
Songwriting: The Beatles > Rush. Both bands had their share of brilliant moments and embarassing lyrics or songs, but The Beatles win this one for me by a landslide.
Winner: The Beatles. (For the record, I enjoy both bands immensely, before claims of bias are thrown at me.)

I can almost guarantee that the Beatles could have never written a masterpiece like 2112.
My vote: Rush.
they did its a 17 minute long piece on Abbey Road called the Medley
Bass: Rush>Beatles, close but hard to beat Geddy
Guitar: Rush<Beatles, its freakin' George Harrison, Lifeson's great but Harrison's one of the most influential ever
Drums: Rush>Beatles, Neil Peart is probably the best besides Keith Moon
Vocals: Rush<Beatles, no even close
Songwriting: Rush<Beatles, i mean really it's the Beatles
Overall: if Beatles lose that is a travesty

There are a ton of user names and topics about Led Zeppelin. There are over a thousand "Let's get Led Zeppelin in the game, they're the greatest!" and there are no longer any avatars, but there were a lot when we did have avatars.
There are only 500 "Let's get Queen in the game!" at the most on this board.

Can I just say that one man has no place in deciding if a band is overrated? You might not like them, but just because you don't doesn't make the minority opinion (e.g., yours) the correct one. In fact, logic says just the opposite. With this said, I'm going to withdraw any statements of mine calling a band *Cough*Zeppelin*Cough* overrated so that no one can use it against me.

Anyone who puts Paul over Geddy or Ringo over Peart is quite possibly insane.
Also, to whoever said Peart rights crappy lyrics...yes. But when he matured (Limelight) they got better.

Rush hits of note:
"Working Man"
"Tom Sawyer"
"Freewill"
"Limelight"
"2112"
"The Spirit of Radio"
"Limelight"
"Red Barchetta"
"YYZ"
"Xanadu"
"The Passage to Bangkok"
"Early Distant Warning" (this is just IMHO, not really a well known song)
That seems like a decent number of classics to me.

The Medley was abunch of unfinished songs, they had no place for. Basically, it was a recycling bin song.
i dont think thats true but even if it is it's still amazing, and IMO better than 2112

The Beatles had so many No.1 Hits, and how much The Rush have had?
IMO The Beatles are way better than Rush but this is a stupid statement
The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix
never had number one hits, besides Touch of Grey and All Along the Watchtower
and they're still some of the greats
anyway a band doesnt need number 1 hits to be amazing

I was reading through the thread and came across this garbage. I don't mean to flame you but you're basiclly saying that because Rush is better you are voting for the Beatles. Unless I understand this wrong???
Ummm ">" means "greater than". So he has Beatles better than Rush in most cases and equal in one. Seems pretty consistent to me.

Er. What OldFogey said. :D I did say that Rush is more technical, but technical /= good, in my opinion.

Dire Straits vs. The Police
GnR vs. Pantera
The Clash vs. The Ramones
there are 14 battles.

Rush... because I'd rather listen to them than The Beatles.
And because I'd vote for Rush no matter what the opposing band is. ;)

^ Two kickass bands that arose from the ashes of hair metal. (yeah Pantera were hair metal in the early days but, um that's not the point)

They make the justice all the more satisfying. Or that question was way over my head. Either way, justice always goes better with orange juice and vodka. Then again, so do a lot of things.

I voted for Rush because they have more songs that I like. Also, their style of music is more rocking.
In my opinion, The Beatles didn't start to rock out until the Acid days, leaving only a handful of "rock" songs. However, they did have some good "pop-rock" songs when they first started out.
Either way, I'm glad that these giants are the ones going at it. :)

Ah -- sorry. Just assumed everyone knew:
screwdriver |ˈskroōˌdrīvər|
noun
1 a tool with a flattened, cross-shaped, or star-shaped tip that fits into the head of a screw to turn it.
2 a cocktail made from vodka and orange juice.

I remember one of the early songs I learned on guitar (outside of the obligatory Smoke on the Water) was Lady Madonna by the Beatles when I was a kid. I completly understand their impact on music, but Rush completely changed my perspective on what could be accomplished especially with three people. They are one of the pioneers of the progressive scene (and my favorite of the movement).
I voted Rush!

But Rush ist an very interesting Band....

Invent? No, no, no. The Beatles didn't invent anything. They established some musicals styles, but they didn't create anything.

I think this would be a better pack :
Revolution
Get Back
Yellow Submarine
The end to Helter Skelter is kinda funky. Yellow Submarine would be a blast to play. I think Chicken means The Beatles will be remembered until the end of time, when rush will probably not. Just like John Lennon's death will be remembered forever. Most people can name all four members of the beatles, and only name one in Rush. Neil Peart

Everyone who's ever touched a bass knows Geddy Lee.

Actually, I was talking about random people that don't know alot about music. They don't play a musical instrument (mostly adults). Go ask 5 people in any city, and ask em the names of all four beatles. They can probably name em, because they listened to them growing up. And then ask them to name all three members of rush. Most people usually say "Neil Peart" but can't name any others.
