"Doolittle" will be available Tuesday, June 17 on Xbox Live Marketplace and Thursday, June 19 on the PlayStation store.
I expected to see threads about this but I didn't see any. Am I late?
The Pixies' "Doolittle" is coming. For 1520 Microsoft Points ($19) you can own the entire album. That's 14 master tracks to go along with "Wave of Mutilation," which is already included with Rock Band. Or you can pick and choose songs at 160 Microsoft Points ($2) per track.
Released in 1989, "Doolittle" is a classic album that helped cement the Pixies as one of the preeminent alternative rock bands. Here's the complete list of tracks available for download next week:
"Crackity Jones"
"Dead"
"Debaser"
"Gouge Away"
"Here Comes Your Man"
"Hey"
"I Bleed"
"La la Love You"
"Monkey Gone To Heaven"
"Mr Grieves"
"No 13 Baby"
"Silver"
"Tame"
"There Goes My Gun"

Oh snap. Now I just have to wait a WHOLE WEEK. This is going to be the second time (after The Cars) that I will regret having to wait that whole two extra days for the PSN to update.
Also, $19 is on the low end of what I was expecting, so that's really good news if true.

This thing would sell a ton if all the tracks were .99
I'll probably only get a couple.

The drummer in that video better not have been playing on Expert because if they were, HMX didn't chart a lot of bass pedal notes.

I'm pretty sure a lot of the charts shown are not the expert charts, so this looks like it's gonna be really fun.

I'm guessing that isn't Expert. Those charts seemed to be moving awfully slow.
EDIT: Oh yeah. It's definately not Expert. The Vocal bars are thicker than Expert, and you can hear bass notes that aren't being sent down the chart.

I'll believe it when a HMX employee confirms it.Yes, because the fact that they are clearly playing it doesn't mean a thing.
We already knew it was coming this month, and there are only two weeks left, so this isn't that surprising. Seeing a "special preview" review from IGN is, on the other hand, a little surprising... have we ever got a sneak peak at DLC charts before they were released before, Still Alive excepted?

Good news for those that have been waiting on this one.
I watched the IGN clip and none of the songs really interested me though. A couple sounded okay, but not worth $2 from what I heard. I'll probably check them out on Youtube though.
It is surprising because I like Wave of Mutilation so I figured there would be some other tracks from the album that would capture my interest.
Oh well, I got the Disturbed tracks last week ago so I'm good for now. Maybe there will be something cool the week after Doolittle. If not, I'm sure life will manage to go on. LOL

Special thanks to the ign video makers for featuring their voices over the original singers... like that's what people want to hear.
Another rap on the knuckles for saying Judas Priest and the Cars are not high profile, and pixies are.
Priest/Cars were huge for their time, even though ign folks may be to young to know that. But then, they are glorified message board posters anwyays.
Meanwhile, as much as the pixies rock, and had a huge influence on rock music, they were never much of a commercial success, and many people don't know them.

If you like WOM, give it a chance, you will probably end up loving this album. That's what happened to me. My first exposure to pixies was the end song in fight club, my second was rock band. Got Doolittle for WOM and loved it.
I like em all, but
Songs to check out:
Debaser
Here Comes Your Man
Monkey gone to heaven
interesting because of their (IMO) proto-Nirvana-ness
Tame
Dead

Ah ha! Good to know. I suspected that, but wasn't sure. The vocalist in that video was pretty bad so I was hoping that wasn't the real deal.:D
Once the Youtube vids hit next week I'll give them all a listen. Maybe it will grow on me with time.
It probably sounds silly and rather obvious, but it would be nice to have an album come out at some point that I want to buy. LOL
cant wait to see the massive backlash for this one, guaranteed to be funny

They need to have a Pantera and Lynard Skynard Album to download. The CD "Far Beyond The Great Southern Cowboys' Vulgar Hits!" from Pantera and "All Time Greatest Hits" from Lynard Skynard. How awesome would that be? To play a Dimebag Darrell solo.:)

I will have to give this whole album a listen. It should be pretty neat on drums so that might be worth paying for. The one thing that I really like is the pricing! As long as I like 10 of the songs buying the whole album will save me money!

Well after watching that whole IGN video, hearing the songs and seeing the charts... still not excited in the slightest. I suppose the actual guitar/bass/drum tracks aren't "too" bad but I just can't stand the vocals - just sound annoying (and I like MSI, lol ). Anyway grats to all those looking forward to this week - I still think from a business standpoint making every track a standard $2 was kind of a cockslap. A great amount of these songs are around a minute and a half long, that seems far too short to offer for that price.

Holy hell! I can't wait for La La Love you. The whistle part is going to be so fun. Especially in a drunken state. Too bad most of the vocals are talky parts. That kinda kills it a little for me. I sure as hell love me some Pixies though.

I think they are just sticking with the $2 a song model (with limited time promotional offerings at $1 a song).
They don't charge more for songs that are 4+ minutes in length, why would they charge less for songs that are less than 2 minutes long?
Better to stick with a flat rate, less to remember, less to explain.

So the album is shorter in terms of length but cost more because there's more songs...intresting. I only planned to get 3 originally but now I only feel like 1 wich would be Debaser. Tried Here Comes Your Man in Singstar and it wasn't fun on vocals.

You know what I'd love? For HMX to release this album in two weeks, or three weeks, and release some other awesome album next week, just to spite IGN for that stupid article where they claimed HMX "stumbled" for releasing Buffett and Disturbed.
And you'd think that if they are doing a video review for all parts that they would show the Expert charts. Too much to ask, I guess.
Lastly, they claim that this album cemented the Pixies' place in punk fame. Folks, I was a skate punk back when this album came out, and I can tell you that this was not a punk album per se. Back then, the preferred catchall term (before it was co-opted by marketing firms on behalf of radio stations) was "alternative." There were entire sections of record stores set apart for alternative music. Under that umbrella were bands like the Pixies, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, They Might Be Giants, etc., but also bands more properly labeled punk, like Minor Threat, GBH, TSOL, The Cramps, Misfits, The Exploited, the Descendents, SNFU, and the Circle Jerks. Maybe the Dead Milkmen, too, if we were feeling funny.

Okay, this is good news for me. But seriously IGN, two things:
1. WE DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOUR SINGER! He is painful to hear, and distracting from the audio of the song. This dang video brings me back to that dreadful time before 11/20/07 when I had to watch the flipping IGN video previews over and over again since I couldn't actually play the game. Painful memories!
2. PLAY ON EXPERT! Is it really that hard, in a room full of HMX employees letting you play their game, to let one of them sit in for you so your video preview will have the expert charts on em? You get the exclusive anyways! Ughhhhh.
Anyways. Doolittle, wooh!

First, I wish music was still like that...the early 90's screwed that all up.
Anyway, all those "punk" groups you listed certainly are punk, but don't limit punk to just those hardcore bands. Look at the Ramones, 50's sound, but they were punk.
The cure, souxsie, the pixies and I'll add another, the Lemonheads all have punk roots.
I hear your point, though, most of those groups went away from the punk roots when they started making a little money. In that case of the lemonheads, it was to make a little money cause honestly, thier punk albums sucked, lol.

The more and more I think about this whole album thing, the more I think HMX needs to re-think some things. Let's face it this album is only going to appeal to hardcore Pixie fans, most people might pick up 1 or 2 songs if that. This album cost $20 which is 1/3 the price of the original game. I think going forward you have to pick really good albums that are filled almost entirely with hit songs. I just can't see paying $20 for an album for 1-2 hit songs and a bunch of songs that no one has ever heard except hardcore fans. I think going forward it is greatest hits albums or only really important groundbreaking albums (LZ IV, The Wall, Appetite for Destruction, The Joshua Tree, White Album, etc).
Not really any songs on Doolittle were hits. But once you hear the album once or twice or more, they all sound like hits. Myself and my kids are excited for this one.

Some people for sure. My friends rave about it, and I'm sure it's a great album, but they don't have Rock Band, nor do a lot of people who can really appreciate the choice. A great album doesn't mean a lot of people want it in Rock Band over so many other more popular choices. I think people are fooling themselves if they think this is an album a significant percentage of Rock Band owners want relative to so many other albums people have been clamoring for. I would guess the vast majority of Rock Band owners are more casual music fans and never heard of them.

That's observably not true. I had this album on vinyl, back in the day. About every four months I'd play "Here Comes Your Man," try to listen to a few other tracks, and usually turn it off around the middle of "Debaser."
However, my taste in music has improved. I have not listened to this album since then, but I trust enough people on these forums (and dare I say it -- HMX! eeek!) to give it another try.
So look here, at me. I'm buying it, and I ain't a Pixies fan. I'm Pixies-curious, though, and I'm a big fan of getting to know music via the Rock Band experience.

From Wikipedia:
Wow, I just listened to the entire album and I really can't see what the big fuss is about. None of the songs were especially good. It is no wonder they never achieved mainstream sucess. Why can't we get an album that is at least in the top 100 of Rolling Stone's Top 500 albums of all time. Here are the respective ranks of the 3 albums we have gotten so far..
Doolittle, Pixies - #226
Cars, The Cars - #282
Screaming for Vengence - Not Ranked!
At least we are moving up the chart, so I guess that is a good thing. I fully expect this album to not sell well at all. I fear albums will be a bust until we get some top 100 albums or HMX changes its strategy and goes for Greatest Hits albums where all the tracks are good.
Expect alot of whining over the next week.
Throwing darts at a dartboard would be better than paying any attention to what Rolling Stone have to say.

I think even The Pixies fans will agree with most people in that this album is going to sell poorly. I'm sure given the price, number of tracks, and lack of widely recognizable songs, HMX knows it too. But as the Cars album was for me, this is a welcome addition for a lot of folks, so I'm all for it.

Definately! I'm a huge fan of both The Cars and The Pixies, so I was thrilled when I heard about both album announcements. To tell you the truth, I was really surprised The Cars album has only had a mediocre performance thus far...6 of the 9 tracks on that album are radio staples on both of my local "classic rock" stations. You honestly can't get through a single day without hearing at least Just What I Needed or Good Times Roll.
With that said, while I think The Pixies album will sell worse than The Cars and Judas Priest in the US, I have a feeling that Doolittle will sell at least twice as much as JP/Cars in Europe. Alternative rock, and by extension The Pixies, are huge overseas, as evident by their ability to sell-out stadium-sized concerts every time they play in Europe. HMX knows that they need to cater to both NA and Europe now.

I've pretty much predicted since day one this album is going to bomb. I love the Pixies, but considering the price, and the relative dullness of those charts (waiting to see on expert before making final decision), I'm not even gonna get the whole thing.
Face it. At no point were the Pixies a major/mainstream band. Is this album awesome? Definitley. Influential? Absolutley. Did it ever sell at all? Definitley not. The last time I looked, it's been out almost 20 years and haven't even gone platinum. To the Cars/Judas Priest "No One likes these bands" people, both those cds have gone multiplatinum. None of the songs have ever been big radio staples (with the possible exceptions of Here Comes Your Man and Debaser), but turn on your local stations....you'll probably hear You've Got Another Thing Comin at some point. You'll probably hear You're Just What I Needed or Good Times Roll at some point. Pixies?.....waiting....waiting.....
I'm expecting quite a few Cherry Bombs from this album (Silver has the chance to be one of the least downloaded songs ever. Those charts looked terrible)

Well, I just listened to the whole album and I DO see what the fuss is all about. I really like it! I didn't purchase The Cars album, but this one I sure will. My favorite track: Crackity Jones......

Blah blah blah... same whining, different week.
"If they are going to do whole albums, do greatest hits...so all the songs are good."
Is that how iTunes does it? Or is the WHOLE POINT that if you WANT and enjoy the album you can buy it all, or just pick and choose the songs you like? No one is twisting your arm to buy the music you don't like. Buy singles, buy albums, buy packs, you have OPTIONS! Since when is options a bad thing?
One day these forums and the cave-dwelling ME-ME-ME's that live here will begin to realize that they aren't expected to buy everything that comes out. Not everything is meant for them. HMX is building a library of music for their PLATFORM. People toss the words around, but I suspect that they don't know what it means...
Rock Band is your iPod, the music store is your iTunes. You buy what you want to play. By the time GHIV comes out, we will have a library of over 300 songs to choose from. If you were to get them all, that's about 6 games worth of songs in the time frame between GH3 and GH4. But, you aren't expected to get them all. I'm sure HMX would love you too, but that is not their intention. Their intention is for EVERYONE to find at least something they want to buy, be it a single, an album, a pack, whatever.
Every week we have the same stupid, futile discussions over DLC choices. When does it stop? When we have 500 songs? 1000 songs? How many songs need to be released before everyone has something they like? Therein lies the rub... there is always the chance it will never happen, and if that's the case, you don't like music.
Doolittle...not my bag. I'm fine with that. I didn't like the songs released on iTunes this week either, but I'm not going to cry about it, because I have other choices. Maybe I'll get that Cars album I've been sitting on for awhile now... maybe I'll pick up a few of those other songs I passed on initially. Not because they were bad, but because they weren't "must have" at the time. (And I'm short on money)
Relax people, seriously.

Congrats to the pixies fans.....I am always glad when people get something that they want.
Now to the full album vs. Greatest hits argument.
I think comparing Itunes and rock band is a little off base. Unlike itunes, Rock Band must spend months on each song to complete it. I think the argument against the albums is that they could be spending those months working on songs that will actually sell well. Even the best album will have a hand full of songs that will just not sell well.
Think of the catalog Rock band could have if they released "The best of ________ band" the last week of each month.....and think of the anticipation that would build off that each month.

Well, if true, I'm not excited. I honestly found Wave of Mutilation to be a very boring song. But congrats to those who are excited. As I said in another thread, I'm broke, so I have a lot of songs in the back catalouge that I want and haven't been able to afford, so I'll probably save a couple bucks and buy some of those songs instead.

will buy the full album. along with death's "sound of perseverance", sonic youth's "daydream nation", and amebix's "arise!", this was a total staple of early high school for me.
now if we could just something from one or more of those three albums...

Indie hipsters unite!!
Doolittle has arrived!!
thanks HMX, after reading Johnlok's blog, it seems like the folks at HMX are very comfortable with their position going into Summer. My bet is that we get some more strong releases sooner than we think. I would love them to go nuclear and just crush GH:Aerocheese at the end of June....
....just hit the red button and release Nevermind and GH:Aerosmith will go the way of ET for the Atari2600.

Well, first time hearin' all these songs, and way over in the "this is wiggity wack" camp because of all the people talking about how they influenced nirvana and kurt cobain, and I can't stand nirvana, but then I heard it, and it sounds NOTHING LIKE THEM. That I've heard anywayys.
So I'm a happy camper now.
Crackity Jones and Mr. grieves is gonna R00l.

If the price is confirmed tomorrow, I don't see why people are complaining about the album price. I expected $20. Even if the songs are short, that's five more songs than the previous album releases for only $4 more. I see this as a good sign that no album will cost more than $20.
For the single prices, Harmonix has always said that the singles from the albums would be available at regular price. Why would they drop the price on the individual songs because they're short? "Rockaway Beach" = $2. Meanwhile "...And Justice for All" also $2.
"Doolittle" will also take the Rock Band song count to over 200!

IGN with the exclusive and they play the charts on medium/hard?....and then say that the album isnt challenging to boot. Ugh.....
My $19 are ready to go on Thursday!
And personally...Im glad I dont have songs that I like every thursday otherwise I'd be broke rather quickly.
After this album is released...Ill be good on DLC for a very long time, no complaints from me. :)

Can't wait for this one. Doolittle is an excellent album and Hey in particular is one of my favourite ever tracks. Tame is going to be a riot to sing.

I watched the entire video.
I can say that I have never heard any of these songs in the 23 years that I have been alive.
Moreover, I can say the vocals would suck complete ass unless you like the songs, same words over and over and over.
Also, after listening to this, I don't see how Nirvana was inspired?

Actually... same words over and over is kinds Nirvana-ish itself

Apparently:)
I can also say that the instrument tracks don't look to enthralling either.
I wouldn't be surprised if Statosphere showed this to be the lowest selling album after it's first week.
Glad to hear you "Pixies" fans are getting what you want though.
Actually... same words over and over is kinds Nirvana-ish itself
That wasn't suppose to be associated with each other.
A lot of music does the repeating lyrics... generally because Rock stars seem to lack the capability of completing a song lyrically.

I'm far from a Pixies "fan" -- I had heard some songs before (Here Comes Your Man, Tame), and ended up borrowing the album from a friend after the announcement just to know what to expect -- but I have to say I think vocals are going to be the best part of this pack.
Instrumentally I don't expect anything amazing.

What entire video? You saw like 30 seconds of nine different songs. The lyrics aren't repetitious. Less than most records anyway. The vocals will be the best part, although you wouldn't know it from hearing whoever that guy is at IGN singing.

Nevermind? > Who's Next? > Judas Priest > The Cars > The Pixies
Kinda a lame announcement after watching the vids, seems like a bunch of strum fest songs. Right now I am very disapointed in everything I saw from the video. Looks **** for guitarists especially, but dull for drummers to.

May I ask why you think this?
I'm a fan of challenging vocals that cover a fairly broad spectrum, and this album covers a good spread all by itself rather than being an abundance of near-identical sounding tracks (like a lot of albums).
Comparing Crackity Jones (fast-paced), Tame (switching between hushed tones and screaming), Here Comes Your Man (very radio-friendly), and Debaser (from fairly standard fare to bat**** insane), you get a wide range of similar-yet-different sounds.
This is the sort of thing I enjoy in my Rock Band vocals. Well, this and glam. You can never get enough glam.
The original tracks are also much better than Hillary's singing, which has been atrocious since pre-release.
I can understand how it may not be everyone's choice, but to me, it's the best aspect.
Anyway, I gotta get to bed, so I may only reply to a reply you make (if you make one) tomorrow night. ;)

I dont understand why they're releasing this as DLC,its not going to make them any money,if this is the type of full albums we can expect to get, remind me to spend my points on something worthwhile.I figured from the start full albums were a bad idea, this just solidifies that thought.

The Pixies?? are you kidding me? Hasnt HMX learned yet from the failures that were the Cars and Judas Priest albums? This kind of crap dont sell
when are they going to clue in,to make money you have to cater to the majority of the people.
Whats next as full album DLC,Michael Bolton or Wham? Actually both those would be better than the pixies.

Well, colour me unimpressed. I hadn't heard this album yet (going to give it a listen the week it arrives in RB), but the snippets I heard really did not impress me that much.
"Monkey Gone To Heaven" looked like a pretty cool track though, it may go into my reserve pile, if for no other reason than I really find that phrase funny for some reason.
Congrats to all you Pixies fans, you've been waiting long enough for this. I hope you are all impressed with it (I'm sure you will be).
Just so everyone knows, it looks like the drummer is playing on medium (MAYBE Hard, not positive), he's most certainly not on expert.
