Democracy can be great or it can suck. It can be the fairest way to do things or it can be mob rule. But like Winston Churchill said, "Yes madam, you are ugly, but I'll be sober in the morning" (sorry, wrong Churchill quote. anyways...). So how about a democratic DLC?

Here's how it would work: Rock band could post a dozen or so streaming audio tracks (quicktime plugin) and we, the unwashed, ignorant masses could cast votes for our favorites. Harmonix could even get creative and have participants list their favorite to least favorite in descending order and do an instant-runoff voting system. The winners would, a month or so after the results are tallied, be released as DLC (I'm not really sure how long it takes Harmonix to develop a song into game content, but I'm guessing it's not more than two months or so if there's not much legal BS to worry about).

The bands involved would likely have to be unsigned or small indie label bands (perhaps randomly selected from threads on the site), which would be fine with me. I see people posting obscure bands on here all the time, hoping that their favorite unknown punk/indie/emo/metal/whatever band will catch the eye of others or some harmonix exec.

Anyone else think this would work?

I was agreeing with you up until that part

My reasoning was that bigger bands would require a huge cash investment over the rights, so for Harmonix to offer a song to the public (without guaranteeing its release as DLC) would probably not be too cost-effective.

Well seeing as I made the admin wet his pants I already know we won't ever be heard.

BTW Jimmy Buffett is good music, oh wait half of you aren't old enough to be in bars. If we had been heard we would of had Pearl Jam Long before this. We all know the Muse thread is spammed to make it look like people actually like them. But I have been snooping around and G.H. World tour is going to have about 75% of the songs we have been asking for. That's pretty bad when a game that hasn't come out yet Has all the rights to the good stuff and not this DLC crap HMX & MTV put out. but what do you expect from cheap Bast*rds of HMX!!

The Day HMX starts listening to the people that actually want to buy DLC they wont have to worry about their fall out. Rock Band's stocks will go stagnant if their ways don't change and soon.

Being able to pick from 12 indie-ish bands from a variety of genres would be nice.

As long as there's on Evile/Slayer-esque thrash metal band lul.
