Instrument wise/song wise?
Because being 14, I either have to mow lawns or ask my parents for ms points. And 1520 points for an album is...well there's alot of songs and I hated Wave of multilation, so if it's as boring or sounds the same as wave, then count me out
So is it a good album or a waste of 18 bucks?

Go listen to it yourself and make a decision...

It's awesome and totally worth it.
That being said if funds are limited for you, Youtube is your friend. Check out the charts before buying.

That is one person's opinion... mine would differ from yours. But, then again, I am older so my tastes are older too...

If you hate Wave of Mutilation, don't bother. It's one of the most listenable tracks on the album.
However, Pixies are a band that inspired The Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana and many other artists, so if you like those bands, you might want to give it another listen.

Its not worth wasting the time doing manual labor for,if you do end up mowing lawns,do the smart thing and save your points for something really worthwhile.

Lazy Alex...go on YouTube and search for the songs...
For MY suggestion (and it's nothing more than a suggestion)...
I saw all of the hype from people on here about the Pixies and thought "hey. i must be missing out here. let me check these guys out."
If you hated "Wave of Mutilation" you will ABSOLUTELY hate the other songs. After I heard the songs from Doolittle, i thought Wave of Mutilation was catchy LOL...
Im not going to criticize those who DO like them....i just don't know why they do

This alone keeps me the hell away from this DLC.

It's worth $50 easy, mow all the lawns you have to. Beg, borrow, steal, whatever.

Listen to Doolittle and decide for yourself. Personally, I love it. Doolittle will be my best DLC to date. But the album really seems to be one that people either love or hate. Go give it a listen.
PS - Wave of Mutilation is not a good indication of what Doolittle will sound like.

The album itself is amazing. One of the best alternative rock albums of all-time, and "Wave of Mutilation" is one of the worst songs on the album IMO. That being said, how it will play is something entirely different, and the reason why I'm going to wait and see the charts before deciding on how many songs I'm going to purchase. If the album was 1200 points like the previous two, then I would buy it without hesitation.

To me, The Pixies are like dark beer. You generally don't love it the first time you drink it, but you may aquire the taste and settle for nothing else. Or you may just find it acceptable, or you may just hate it and stick to light beer or something that you enjoy more.
For a lot of folks, no matter how much you listen to the CD, you may not end up liking it, for others it's like a religion. And for folks like me, you may get it or appreciate it, but just not get into it.

I'm sure at 14 you can find a way to grab the album and listen to it. I don't think I have to explain how this is acheived.
As for the album itself, I beleive it's fabulous, and it might be your first step in a much larger musical horizon. Not trying to be condescendant here. Just be aware that it will more than likely not stick at first, especially if you're not familiar with that sound. Give it at least five spins before you throw it away.
There's a possibility that you won't like it at all of course, but this is one gigantic classic you absolutely must be familiar with.

Good analogy! But I hated dark beer at 14 though.
Let's put it this way, if you don't like it today (hey, I was listening to Cinderella at 14), come back to it later on, your tastes might change.

Do people really not know how to use the internet to listen to these songs before actually buying them? What's more, doesn't the Rock Band Store have previews of the songs that you can hear first?
Asking a random person on the internet if an album is good is probably the most loaded question you can ever ask. It's totally subjective.
I personally can't stand the Pixies and I don't see how playing them in Rock Band could possibly be fun. For other people, it's the Holy Grail of DLC.
And save your money so you can go to college!

i really like them but gots to admit it wasnt an instantaneous thing. at first i thought they were a good band and you sort of learn to appreciate their creativity as time goes by. definitely very unique sound imo and sometimes that doesnt resonate with a lot of people but its great nonetheless.

From a purely financial perspective, I don't consider Doolittle worth the asking price. A lot of the songs are really short, and in Rock Band that's just lame. You wanna spend your time playing, not being kicked back to the song list. "Hey, let's play X! *zoop* wow, that was an amazing thirty seconds! Let's play Y!".
Meanwhile, you could be epically rocking out to Foreplay/Long Time or something.
But that's just me. I have the album and I've listened to it twice. Then again, I don't like dark beer, either. :)

I would say try "Here Comes Your Man" and "Monkey Gone to Heaven" (the other two big tracks from the album) and, if you like those then you will like the rest. I like the album to listen to, but am not planning on buying it all.

I have to agree. It takes some time for the hooks to set in but once they do you will be on a higher musical plane than the nonbelievers.

If you don't like Wave Of Mutilation, you probably won't like the album as a whole, so I wouldn't buy the whole thing.
You could just get the more popular songs from that album like, Here Comes Your Man, This Monkey's Gone To Heaven, & Debaser.

Monkey gone to heaven? Ew, it just sounds like utter trash.

It's totally a love or hate thing ... personally I'm not a fan at all so it's yet another skipped week.
I'm praying for some Greenday, Bush, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, GnR, AC/DC and 100 other bands that i've actually heard of (prior to playing these games)
May HMX grant me at least one of those wishes :D

I'd say No. 13 Baby is also one of the more palatable songs for starters on the CD. Try that one.
Edit: Well, I would've said that about Monkey Gone to Heaven too. So whatever.

You should probably just listen to the whole CD first then and decide after. The thing about the Pixies is that they really have no set sound or style: each song is a different type of beast unto itself.

I read in Game Informer that they're trying to get Rush's "Moving Pictures" in the game after they release this album...
Now THAT is what I call good Rock Band material. And I will most definitely buy.

Definitely a Top 10 all time album for me. You're going to have to listen to it to figure out if this is something that connects with you.

They're not.
The dark beer analogy really fits. If all you're looking for is complicated parts, though, this isn't it. But I really do think they are musical geniuses. It all fits together so well.

No offence but this is a pretty pointless thread because everyone has very different Music tastes, and their own personal thoughts on Doolittle and the Pixies, Ranging from the worse to best Album ever and everything in between. Your idea of good music too is probably different from most posters here, therefore the best way to see if the album is worth it give it a listen, or wait till its out and watch the uploaded Rock Band videos on Youtube.
Personally I think its a pretty good album, I will definetly pick up a few tracks from it, in my opinion "Monkey gone to heaven" is a great song, and will be fun to play - and is quite popular too, it definetly got a lot of radio play here in the UK for quite a while. So for me its a must have, along with a few others. Although I don't think I will get the whole album.
