Lots of new info in here. What I find the most interesting is the different types of gigs you can do, like play in a tournament to win a Van so you can travel. Also, play in LA to attract an agent? How cool is that?

True... although, at the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if this is their only Rock Band exclusive news item until the game is released.

That's some of the best news coverage I've heard in a long time. I've been wanting to know about how that progression in Tour Mode was going to be. It's basically the same idea I had when GH2 came out and I posted on a wish list on those boards. I love how HMX ACTUALLY listens to their players.

Gamespot for the block!
Wow... would've been much more worth my time to just check out the site instead of sitting through 50 minutes of blah for about 3 minutes of Rock Band on Attack of the Show!
Rock Band just keeps getting better. How am I going to make it to November 23rd without long-lasting mental and emotional damage?

Great article! IGN fails... Nice job gamespot!
A few things I liked from this article:
the game will look at everyone's selection of home town and determine a starting city for your group.
Thats cool so we don't choose our own starting location but the game does, unless of course we all have the same home town.
Rock Band will actually keep a cumulative tally of those stars at all times, which will tell you at a glance how much of the career mode you've made it through. Then there's your fans. You'll actually know at any given time how many people you've won over, which can certainly be gratifying as you advance through the career mode and see that number continually increasing. Naturally, the more fans you have, the bigger the venues you'll get to play.
Awesome, I'm glad they keep track of all your stars as well as all your fans.
Each venue instead represents a tier of activities that you can undertake, from single-song performances to mystery set lists, which can throw any of the previously unlocked songs at you back-to-back.
Sounds amazing, I'm so happy this isn't just a linear thing, but you have to move around and do different tasks than just play the songs in order.
Later in the game, you'll find more specific challenges, such as a punk marathon that requires you to properly play every punk song in the game, or sponsored events that will feature major contributions from some of the game's licensees, like Fender.
First I've heard of this and it's a great idea, play different genres, sponsored events all sound like tons of fun and a nice twist on the basic idea of the tour mode.
"battle of the vans," which led us into playing a multi-song set against some other bands. The grand prize bestowed on the winner of this competition--our band, natch--was our very own van
again another nice addition to the tour mode, and adds a cool element, I like that you don't just pay for your stuff but you can play for it too, and make money wagers as well!
After we scored that clunker of a van, an agent contacted us and let us know that we should play more gigs in LA to try to catch the attention of a major label. If you hire that agent, he'll help you out by booking you at key venues in specific cities that will advance your meteoric rise to fame, and he'll make other suggestions designed to net you new fans.
This is where the manager comes in I guess, helps you get fans and get gigs, sounds awesome, I'm really impressed with World Tour Mode.
both play the same song on the same difficulty and trade off playing different sections of the song. The player with the highest score at the end, wins. The tug of war is a little different; instead of scores, you get a single bar at the top of the screen, and the better player will have that bar fill up on his or her side. Here, however, we tried a game with one player drumming on medium and another on expert, and the expert player wiped the floor with the medium player simply because of the much greater scoring potential on higher difficulties.
This is basically what I thought they would be, score battle is like face-off and then tug of war is like pro-face off. I guess you switch off in score battle and in tug of war you both try and out play each other. Sounds like it will be interesting.
Awesome review all in all. Way better than news we have gotten in a long while. It had some great revealing aspects to it, and it was very in depth. This blows IGNs stuff out of the water.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe World Tour Mode must be played with four people.
Single player will involve a single instrument career, I think it will be more along the lines of Guitar Hero style of career.

Definately seems like that screenshot confirms The Konks in the game in some manner. I'm guessing bonus track.
I googled that lyric string and got back a page about the Konks stating that they were promoted by Little Steven (head of the RB music selection committee) and that The Konks won his battle of the bands competition recently. They are also based out of Boston like many other bonus track bands from GH1/2.

"We had to ask the game's representatives about the weekly release schedule they've mentioned in the past for Rock Band's downloadable content. Turns out you'll be seeing downloadable music content--not just things like gamer pictures or new guitars--every single week. That might be a three-song pack, it might be a whole album, it could be just one song--but you'll be able to roll all of it right back into the World Tour mode, which means your band could be lighting up marquees around the globe for a long, long time to come."

For Band World Tour, you need the leader and another member to play in the band. The other band members can either be present, empty, or 'substituted' if you want to bring players in temporarily.
Also, this is different from Solo Tour - Solo is a little more traditional, like you can tell from the screenshots on the main site.
I'll talk about this more in my blog on Friday.

I think we need to focus less on the IGN got pwned and more on the Guitar Hero got pwned. I know, I know, they're two separate games and they've each got things of which to be proud, but damn, HMX just schooled anybody who ever had or ever will tackle a rhythm game. Neversoft has been going around touting the story mode in their game, and the boss battles and all that noise. But with one little article, not to mention years of planning and blood letting hard work, HMX has shown the pretenders that there's no need to show up for this battle, it's already been done won.

I think what he is saying is that you need at least two members of the original band and you can substitute the other two with any combination of 0-2 players that aren't in the actual band.
Thanks for that info, I look forward to friday and reading your blog about it in more detail.
I think that is a good way to do it, so then you don't always need all the same people present, so you aren't so restricted, but at the same time you can't just play it as a single player, so there is still some band aspect to it.

He just said that you need the leader plus one other member of the band, he doesn't imply that other member of the band has to be an original member. Pretty sure I've also seen it stated before that the leader of the band can be reassigned as well so you wouldn't even need to have the original leader around either.
Good way to mirror real life where band members come and go and even founding members leave and new ones take the leadership reigns, but it's still the "same" band that keeps on playing.

where have you heard of {The Konks} before?
"Bob and Jon waste no time cranking out primitive guitar and bass riffs backed by steady beats and screaming vocals from Kurt (no last names in this band) on The Konks debut. This Boston trio has carved out the best chunks of The Sonics and Screamin’ Jay Hawkins (among others) with a rusty butcher knife, thrown the pieces into a stainless steel blender, added a touch of raw energy and cranked the dial up to puree to arrive at their unique sound. After winning Little Steven’s Battle of the Bands, this 12 song CD casts away any doubt as to why they won: These guys know how to strip rock ‘n’ roll down to it’s foundation, down to the primitive muck where all bands root, and drag it even lower.
“Outta My Mind”, the opening track, blows the dust of the speakers with it’s lo-fi crunch, high-pitched screams and disorienting finale that plows the listener face first into the next track, “29 Fingers”, a twisted ode to what red-blooded rock ‘n’ roll bad asses The Konks really are (sans one thumb). There are too many tracks to cover without drowning this review in metaphor and comparison so you’ll have to go out and have a listen for yourself. Be forewarned: The Konks smash the foundation of rock into so many bits and pieces that after you listen you may find yourself strapping dynamite to your CD collection and dragging the needle arm across your parents’ record collection."

Typically I try to avoid posts that are devoid of real content and don't add anything to the conversation.
But I just can't help it. This World Tour examination has me so ridiculously stoked I haven't gotten a single line of code written all morning. Instead I've been sending the link around to this article like a silly hotmail whore sends forwards, constantly and with abandon.
This article (which I lusted for in the What would be the best thing you could see at the end of [IGN's] Rock Band Week? (http://community.rockband.com/vbforum/showpost.php?p=79506&postcount=31) thread) moved my unceasing desire for Rock Band from 9.5 to 11.
Holy F.
Maybe I can concentrate on work after lunch.

Yes. I'm only posting here to chime in with my thoughts of how utterly awesome HMX is for putting this all together. World tour sounds like the freaking bomb...I cannot wait to try it out. And DanT...I cannot wait for your blog Friday...there have been so much hinting going on about it, I hope you're up to the task, cause I've built it up quite a bit in my head. Did you draw the lucky straw or something to get to do some epic blog of awesomosity?
Edit: Oh yah, forgot to add one thing, so Band World Tour can be done w/ just two instraments being played by real people, so for those that are going to try out the whole guitar/bass and singing simultaneously...then they could play through world tour by themselves. Bet that'd be damn hard though...I think I can handle it for some songs, but definately not all. Damn...so fun though.

So let me see, could I in theroy use my Xbox Headset, plug it in to the drums controller and then be able to sing and play drums on the world tour?

lol good luck trying to sing and play the drums. Only a fraction of real professional musician have the talent and ability to do that.
Playing guitar and singing is difficult enough.

Nope. It can be played with two people.
Do the star thresholds change accordingly for fewer players? I can't wait to play through Band World Tour as a solo guitarist/vocalist, but it could be unpleasant if I have to score as much points as the 4 player band to 5 star a performance.

It scales with each number of players. Our designers have a sweet method of doing this that I won't go into but it works quite well.
Oh man, beat to the punch!

So then the Solo Tour is completely different from the Band World Tour? Sad, now I've gotta make some friends that want to play Rock Band. All my friends are into Halo and Madden...

I love how if you sell out you lose your die hard fans and if you do a banquet, you lose money, but in return get tons of more fans.Hope there's more "Rock Moments" like that later in the game
