Even though I've enjoyed a few songs here and there, the last several weeks of DLC have felt... different. Less classic.
So I was thinking about this-- if you count the two DLC announcements today, that's six weeks running with more than three songs. And remember how a while ago we were all saying "Calm down about Harmonix repeating bands that are already in the game-- it takes a few months to put DLC together, so the DLC we get now was still negotiated before Rock Band became a hit."?
Well, now we see what it's like when everyone wants to be in Rock Band. More variety, more stuff that people have radically divided opinions on. More obscure bands. I think we're seeing some growing pains from Harmonix, and we're seeing some growing pains from OURSELVES-- at least, those of us who got in the habit of buying every single DLC song because we loved Rock Band and wanted to play as much as possible.
We all know the wave of the future is going to be way more material being available on music games than any one person can afford, just like with iTunes. And around here we all hope it'll be RB instead of GH that brings us there. But you know what? There was going to be a period like this no matter what. Let's see what's next.
