View Full Version : Heavy Metal in RB?

While most of the songs in RB are of decent quality, very little metal music has made the cut thus far. I pose a question to you, the RB community; which of the following metal songs would you buy if it was provided as DLC? I purposefully including songs with NO screamed lyrics, plenty of guitar and drumwork. In addition, I tried to ensure that the bands I chose were fairly well known in the metal community. Without further adieu, here are the nominees.

Wolf and Raven - Sonata Arctica (power metal)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=pioL1uaGJ4M

Virtuostic guitar work, upbeat, complex drum rhythms, and powerful, diverse vocals. Definately a challenge for all involved musicians.

Angel of Death - Slayer (thrash metal)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=kBW_b-WJ2us

Insanely fast guitar and drums, but the vocals are a bit bland. I would prefer South of Heaven, but there are a few lines in that song that are... risque. I somehow doubt RB would include any Slayer due to the, uh, dark lyrics... but I can always dream.

Arms of Sorrow - Killswitch Engage (metalcore)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=36-wQVgIISo

A decent song - fairly simple instrumentally compared to the other candidates, but the vocals are far above the average.

Run to the Hills - Iron Maiden (classic metal)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=u5Snehl2bAk

Need I say more? A true classic.

These Walls - Dream Theater (progressive metal)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=W6wneEZVkMI

One of the most influential, technical metal bands of all time. Extraordinary guitar and drumwork, in addition to stellar vocals. A personal favorite.

So what do you all think? Vote for whatever song you'd actually download, if any.

Voted Slayer, but would also take Maiden.

But above all, would have voted for Tool! Tool is tough to classify as metal though, not really metal per say, although some songs are metal-esque, but will forever fall under the blanket of 'prog-rock' for lack of a better definition.

/end Tool propaganda

I voted for "Run To The Hills" as it's the Classic Metal representative on that list. HOWEVER, I would much prefer (at least) one of the following classic metal tunes:

Iron Maiden - Infinite Dreams (Please!!! PLEASE!!!!)
Iron Maiden - Aces High (PLEASE!!!)
Iron Maiden - 2 Minutes To Midnight
Iron Maiden - The Prophecy
Iron Maiden - The Clairvoyant
Iron Maiden - Afraid To Shoot Strangers
Iron Maiden - Fear Of The Dark
Judas Priest - Painkiller (PLEASE!!!!)
Judas Priest - A Touch Of Evil (PLEASE!!!)
Judas Priest - The Green Manalishi (With The Two-Pronged Crown)
Judas Priest - Locked In
Judas Priest - Out In The Cold
Judas Priest - Victim Of Changes (PLEASE!)
Judas Priest - The Ripper

Any of those would be much better than "Run To The Hills"

Run to the Hills is the Iron Maiden song I want in Rock Band. Please, Harmonix. Please.

This is what I have been screaming for.

More Maiden, more Blind Guardian, more Helloween... maybe even some Manowar or Hammerfall.

It's likely that the Euro's will get all this good "regional" music while we're playing Bon Jovi and Foo Fighters.

It's a shame we can't get all this great music, but it's still going to be one of the greatest game experiences ever!!!

I'm afraid our metal has been replaced with epic suckitude straight from the "Goin South" infomercials.

Molly Hatchet?

Mountain?

I mean, seriously Harmonix... Did someone just become an avid fan of NASCAR over there?

Maybe they see the hillbilly market as untapped potential.

Seriously, the game has three announced metal songs currently in the build and roughly 42 grunge songs. We NEED the metal.

Maiden has a not-so-surprising lead over the other groups. If Harmonix thinks the same way as we do, we can expect (hopefully) another classic metal tune or two in the game.

wats heavy metall?

Get a mental picture in your head of what heaven looks like.

Got it?

Good.

Now imagine the exact opposite of that.

Heavy Metal.

The best music ever invented.

Iron Maiden by far HAVE to be in this game, they would make a great ending encore at the very least on the London venues. Especially if its one of their epics, e.g. Rime of the Ancient Mariner or Hallowed Be Thy Name.
I would prefer something not so mainstream though, like Caught Somewhere In Time.

Not only should Maiden be in RB, but they must certainly have at least one album for DLC, it doenst matter which one, theyre all good in their own right.

I voted for some other metal song, but slayer or iron maiden would be fine. Really RB NEEDS METAL. Im on the fence as to whether Im getting this because the tracklist thus far has left me wanting.

Hey. Hey. I object to the implication that everyone who listens to Molly Hatchet or Mountain are inbred, moonshine-sucking hillbillies. Sure, I'd bet some of them are, but not all of them. Heck, I'm as much of a metalhead as anybody in this thread, but Flirtin' With Disaster may be my favorite song announced so far (outside of Suffragette City and any others I may have forgotten).

I have to agree Mr. Army. The tracks (ESPECIALLY the 90s tracks) have left me wanting thus far, but I have high hopes for the bonus song list + the remaining unannounced songs.

And as a side note, don't all Americans have a little hillbilly inside of 'em? We drink beer, watch NASCAR (it's more popular than baseball now!), and drive trucks.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind some grind in RB. I know it'll never find its way into the game through official channels, but a man can dream..

The Red Chord - "Black Santa" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuRq4G__ayc)

Napalm Death - "Nazi Punks F*** Off" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uKxTxkGZCI) (Dead Kennedys cover)

Cephalic Carnage - "Dying Will Be The Death Of Me" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_zEAs7_nPM)

hate the red chord, and you couldve chosen better songs for the last two bands then those

red chord is freaking sick dude, crazy stuff.

but Dream Theater has no reason to not be in RB unless they deem too much keyboard

but agreed, RB needs some more heavy stuff obviously, so let's hope bonus and DLC.

Yeah dude, I hate to break it to you, but grind will /never/ find it's way into RB. You've gotta give some love to vocalists, and most (if not all) grind is virtually impossible for the average singer. Plus, with song names like 'F***ed with a Knife' and 'Black Santa', RB would almost definitely have to be slapped with an M rating.

But hey, keep dreaming. I'll keep fantasizing about Slayer making it into RB (won't happen, I imagine), you keep thinking 'bout Cannibal Corpse and Napalm Death.

cannibal corpse isn't grind, and the red chord/deathcore is not "sick" its just sickly horrible

my favorite metal is black metal btw

So you're into Dimmu Borgir and Mayhem type stuff? Nice.

If CC isn't grind, what is it? Just plain ol' death metal?

battle_axe_of_doom
10-19-2007, 09:21 AM
not dimmu, mayhem yes.

about CC: idk people call it gore metal, but yeah i'd say they are just death metal with goregrind lyrics (yes goregrind is a genre. grindcore-style music with extremely gory lyrics)

I agree that sadly, grindcore will most likely have no place in RB. Which is horrible, because that type of metal is the most fun to sing. There's some song by Grave called Soulless... Great song! Another song (not grindcore) that I think would would be really fun is The Weak Willed by All That Remains. The singer is awesome, how he can sing in all those types of voices... Is it one guy? I don't know that much about the band, but it's a great song.
