OK So I decided to de-lurk for something I found out there on the intertubes
http://store02.prostores.com/artguitar/PreOrder.html
Yes I know they're using GHII PS2 electronics and 400 bucks isn't exactly cheep (but how much would you pay for a real guitar anyways?)
But if we collectively bug the company (artguitarhero@mms2web.com) maybe they'll get hold of some RB controller innards.
Better still maybe Harmonix can bug them on our behalf.

lol wtf
seriously who would buy those?

Well it is the only commercial offering I've seen of a stripped down FULL SIZE guitar (yup not plastic but solid wood) with the company's art prints.
But hey! Even I would find it hard to justify $399 for a game peripheral (especially a PS2 one) lol

Wouldn't that already work in Rock Band since its backwards compatible with past guitars (and those customs are just variants of the past guitar)

Either DIY, or find a friend who's comfortable with electronics and woodworking. Get a cheap-ass guitar off EBay (I've gotten two for <$100 shipped and they even play decent) and insert the electronics. The buttons might need to be done carefully (due to the trussrod), but the whole thing could be done for less than $200.
I thought about doing this myself with a button on every fret. So, on songs like Beast and the Harlot, you could start at the top of the neck and work all the way down ;) Never really felt the motivation, and in the end I've got some other projects that will be far more fun :D

It's the Jr. School woodshop reject finish I want to avoid. There are plenty of instructions on modding guitars for GH already and I'm sure someone is just inching to invalidate the warranty on their RB controllers for exactly the same purpose. :p

They are just trying to squeze all the money out of GH fans if you ask me

Considering that Guitar Hero II was made by Harmonix and Rock Band has been confirmed to work with GH2 controllers, I find the title of this thread quite odd.
The guitars you listed will work just as well in Rock Band as they would in Guitar Hero III.
These guitars were clearly not made custom for GHIII, and Rock Band can use them just as well, so again the topic is very misleading and incorrect.

No, the post is not at all misleading. Those peripherals being advertised are for PS2 and so will not work in PS3 or XBox360. Rock Band absolutely has not been confirmed to work with PS2 peripherals (unless you are only talking about the PS2 version of Rock Band, which is probably of interest to only a small minority of people on these boards).
So for those of us with XBox360 and PS3, and who are interested in custom guitars like this, we have no option on the horizon at present.

lol what? Yes, you can use your GH1 or GH2 SG or whatever to play Rock Band on Ps2, which is exactly what these guitars are for. There's absolutely not confirmed that they CAN'T work for Rock Band.

In know there has been speculation on these boards that hopefully that will be the case (especially since Red Octane has already confirmed that the GHIII controllers for PS3 will not work with GH I or II), but where exactly did you hear confirmation that PS2 guitars were going to work with Rockband in the PS3? I missed that one. If that's true I would be very happy.

I am not going to start a debate with you, but keep in mind the only console I have is an Xbox 360...
Since Rock Band will work with the PS2 and these guitars were made for GH2 and the PS2, and Rock Band will work with GH2 PS2 Controllers... these custom guitars will work with Rock Band. They may not work with the version of Rock Band you (I) own, but it is still for Rock Band.
You cannot isolate a product simply because it is not available on the platform you (I) own. The fact remains these controllers -will- work with Rock Band.

1) You do have an option: do it yourself. This company does not have some magical ability that allows only them to do this. Otherwise, find a smart friend or someone who you can pay to do this.
2) Rock Band controllers do not exist in the wild yet. 3rd-party guitar controllers didn't exist until months AFTER GH was released. You can't really make something like this from a RB-Strat controller, because they don't have an RB-Strat to use.
Either wait for companies to hop on the RB bandwagon, for cross-compatible guitar peripherals, or do it yourself. Just don't whine about it, or I'll call the Whaaaambulance.

Wow, chill out, man. There was a simple statement that it would be nice if this company could also put out some RB-specific controllers, since the ones in the link look pretty cool and follow the old form and are only for PS2. Is that whining?

My points stand: they can't make a Rock Band guitar because they aren't necessarily designed for Rock Band. If it's the SG electronics, and the SG electronics work with RB, then this ipso-facto is a RB controller. If you can't be patient for a few months while some company develops new 3rd-party periphs (and believe me, they will) then you are whining.
The AG Riff Master Guitar Controller will work with music-based guitar games for the Playstation2.
Also, where does it say GH3? I'd say this is a Rock Band guitar, wouldn't you?

It started with the title of the thread. I know you didn't make it, but you're stating what the OP said too.
Let me explain:
GHIII is not the only game to have custom guitars.
They work for Rock Band too.
These guitars are for Ps2. What games are on Ps2? GH1, 2, 3 and ROCK BAND. Therefore, these work for Rock Band. Nothing is specific.
You continue to ask: Why doesn't Rock Band get custom guitars?
What you really should be saying is, why don't they make these for Xbox 360 and Ps3?

Bemani games quite often have arcade-style controllers for around that price point, and sell plenty.

I hate when snobby musicians say "WHY DON'T U JUST BUY A REAL GUITAR FOR THE SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY AND LEARN TO PLAY FOR REAL??? GEEZ!!!" Because clearly, here is a difference between a game and reality.
But in this case, I really have to say: just a buy a real guitar already! Why would you spend upwards of $400 on video game controller that is essentially a real guitar?!

HMX and RB confirmed that for the XBOX , I didn't see anything confirmed for playstation,or did I just miss it? Why would anyone buy a controller for $400 for a PS2 thats only worth $120? You may as well buy a PS3 or 360.

Wow! What a lot of fuss over nothing!
The reason I chose the title of the thread (pity you cannot edit a thread name as a normal user) is because.
1. The company has only just announced they will be making these guitars (that's why they are only taking $50 pre-orders).
2. GHIII is due out very soon.
3. These have the electronics that support the functionality for the GH franchise but not the extra functionality in RB (no 5 stage switch).
4. Obviously from the product photo they are using the PS2 GH I / II electronics which have all the functionality for the GHIII product.
Yes the core game functionality is supported by these devices for both RB and GH (only the PS2 version) but the not too serious call to bug Artguitar was aimed to find out if they would be amenable to producing other platform specific versions with the full electronics for those versions for RB.
These items are aimed at the Bar / Event market (hence the mark-up) and I don't mind paying a premium for a premium peripheral as I totally love this genera of game. Especially if the whammy bar is more robust (just broke my first for GH). As this is the only commercial offering I've seen (yes I get the point on modding your own but I would like something that will look good as a finished product). Then maybe the company will take that experience and expand their range.
I'll leave you to argue over my use of the English language once again.

I guarantee once they know how the 5-way switch and solo frets work (nobody outside HMX has taken one of these apart remember) we'll see similar guitars for RB. End of.

What it really comes down to is do you seriously want to spend $400 on a fake guitar controller for a video game? I just don't see how it would be worth it no matter what system/game it works for. I'd rather just buy a real guitar.
