Yeah. I figured I'd analyze (in my brain) whether Guitar Hero 3 or Rock Band was a better overall investment. My calculations, which are based solely on sex, drugs, and rock n' roll, exclude the price of DLC, as it has not yet been announced. All instrument prices are based on formerly-released games (mainly GH and KR), and songs are assumed to be worth $1.

Rock Band
----
Microphone: $20
Guitar (wired) : $40
Songs (45) : $45
Price of RB = $170

This means ~

Drums: 170 - 20 - 40 - 45 = $65?!?!?!?!?!?

Guitar Hero
----
Guitar (wireless) : $50
Songs (70) : $70

= $120

Price of Guitar Hero: $100
This means ~

You actually gain 20 dollars from buying Guitar Hero. Who knew.

As a side note, if you double the value of RB songs to $2 each (as they have twice as many playable parts), it ends up being about the same value as Guitar Hero.

You'd have to times each song in RB times 4 and each song in guitar hero times 2.

Then and only then is this a correct comparison.

I have a mathematics degree and I can't make heads or tails of that math.

It's not even an accurate comparisson given rock band has 45 + bonus tracks versu guitar hero 3's 70 tracks that include bonus tracks.

I'm following the "fuzzy logic" of it... but it's all a bit... well... fuzzy..

I didn't say logic was involved in my calculations.

Doesn't Guitar Hero 3 only have 48 licensed songs including the co-op and boss battles? The rest are bonus. You shouldn't count the bonus ones because we're still not sure on the official count or RB's Bonus Set List.

Some of..... in fact most of... GH3's bonus song are licensed tracks.

The way I look at it, GH III has 48 main songs, RB has 45. You get three instruments and the game for $60 more than you would for a guitar and Guitar Hero III. That isn't half bad.

Also with all the DLC "100s" coming to Rock Band, and an unnannounced amount for GH III

The ability to play the songs 4 different ways compared to just 2.

Online co-op as well as versus, compared to GH III's versus and battle and no online co-op.

I really think you get a lot more bang for your buck through Rock Band than Guitar Hero III.

Its hard to put a price on any of these things, a lot of it is going to end up being flawed.

That's true I forgot about that.

GH III has 8 tiers with 5 songs a tier=40 songs + bonus songs =only 66 confirmed songs for GHIII.RB 45 songs + bonus songs =? I bet there will be just as many songs or more for RB on the release date.

I enjoy the effort by the OP, but the price per song is a bit arbitrary. It'd be like saying there are 30 MLB teams and 30 NHL teams, and each one is worth $1. That's simply not the case. Both are sports (songs), sure, but are hockey teams (Slipknot songs) really worth anything?

I'd say the quality of the average RB song is better than the quality of the average GH III song. Add in the whole multiple instruments thing, and I think there's a clear winner.

No, I'm not biased.

the real mathematical question is

Is Rock Band360[Drum + Mic + Wired Guitar + Hub + Game] >or= Guitar Hero III [Game + Wireless Guitar] + 70?

The problem with ANY of these equations is that they're purely subjective: The songs are--mostly--different, the theme and feel of the games are different.... So there are going to be personal factors that influence the equation... that tip it either way for each person.

Personally, GH III + Guitar (I'm taking a risk that the guitar wil work for RB) won't be comming soon enough so that I can wear away the hours until the dtrums come.
