Damn man that sucks, sorry to hear. Did you have any kind of airflow on it? and how did you have it positioned? Vertical or Horizontal?
Eman311
10-18-2007, 12:09 PM
Plenty of airflow, horizontal. No reason for it to happen. Had just turned it on too.
Only had it three months. I best be getting one of the newer models in return.

That's pretty weird, had mine for almost a year now and still nothing is wrong with it. I have the modded Nyko fan on it and it's horizontal. Ah well, hopefully they send you a new model.

That sucks, I'm sorry, hopefully you get it back quickly!
Thats my only fear about owning an Xbox, I have almost had it for a whole month now, so far I have had no problems (Knock On Wood) and I really hope mine does not die, especially with GH III and Rock Band on the way!

Neither is a PS3, and there have been plenty of those that have "RRoD". Mainly because dumbasses put them on carpets and such though.

I'm not turning this into a console war but if the PS3 is one thing, it's reliable. Thats also why I got a PS3. Yeah the 360 has a bigger variety of games and a better online interface but what good is it if the system broke down 1/3 of the time (percentage at time I decided to purchase a next-gen console) The PS3 has a failure rate of under 1%.
You can bash a PS3 all you want and yes it has faults, but you can't hear it running and it is incredibly reliable overall.

You crazy? lol I never bash the PS3 I just said they're not all guaranteed to not mess up on you, no piece of technology is man. If you call bashing a PS3 for stating the obvious of some of them have messed up on people then, wow? I'm completely bias when it comes to gaming. I couldn't imagine hating on sony especially since I own a PSP and plan on buying a PS3 pretty soon.

I didn't mean "you" as in you directly. It was more of a generalized statement. Sorry for the misunderstanding. That would also be the lamest bashing in the history of bash. :D

I've heard the ps3 can get extremely hot if left on for awhile? My buddy told me that, he owns the 60GB model and is pretty anal about it being turned off when not on use. But as far as i knew, they were pretty much unbreakable.
Anyways, by my calculations, at the earliest my new xbox will arrive pretty much dead-on with the release date of rock band.
Regardless, I have 3 roommates who all own a 360, so i shouldn't be too bad. Probably be on here even more now

I totally agree. But I would consider that more user error than anything. The 360s have been known to just crap out for no reason. A'la E-man's. I really feel sorry for the dude and wish nothing but the best. I'm not hating on the 360, cause it is a spiffy little piece of hardware. If only M$ could get the bugs fixed.

Is it all 4 lights or 3? Try the towel trick. I've done it and it works temporarily.

My friend's 360 killed over last week. He's already sent it off. I feel for you.
I got mine January 1, 2006 and knock on wood nothing has happened yet. Except last night it kept giving me 2 red lights. Whatever that means. I trusted my 360 not to kill off on me when Halo 3 came out and it came through. I just hope it doesn't when Rock Band comes out.

If mine red rings before or the day of Rock Band, I will cry. I've never been so honest in my life.

Hey man, I actually just got a 360 back from having it sent in due to Red Ring issues. However, the 360 they sent me back was a refurbished one and when i plugged it in, the disc drive wouldnt open and the system kept restarting. I didnt want to have it sent back and have to wait again, so i just went to walmart, bought a new one (with the HDMI port and two free games) and tomorrow i am going to put the broken one in the box and return it and have them put the money back onto my card. It is probably your best bet, because they will either fix yours or send you a refurbished one like they did with me, but who knows what you will get, like mine. Walmart does not scan the serial numbers!
IErrantVentureI
10-18-2007, 03:26 PM
Yeah, but most people don't have that kind of money.
And are you sure Wal-Mart will take back an open 360?

Eman311: dude it sucks that this happend to you, and to all 360 owners who's consoles have craped out for that matter. It pisses me off that we as consumers pay good money for our electronic equipment, and companies like MS in order to save on costs just ignore or just don't give a crap about serious quality issues like in the Xbox 360. It's a terrible thing that 360 owners have to live with this preocupation about their consoles just quiting at any given moment it's just not right. You wouldn't buy a car that you knew in advanced that it has a serious problem with it's brake system would you? All I'm saying is that this machines (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii) cost a lot of money, would should get our money's worth.
Anyway sorry for the rant..... :o

As long as you have the receipt, they will take it back. Besides, the system i bought yesterday (wink, wink) doesnt even work!

Did that with walmart too a couple times, bought a printer there for my wedding invites and the thing crapped out on me the first night.. threw the receipt away... of course. Went back, bought a new one and returned the broken one. LOL.

"They started out with running a PS3 for 4 days in a van, gradually letting the temperature drop from 40 degrees to 0. Here were the results:
We noticed a slight sluggishness in playback once the temperature reached 0 degrees , this was maintained for the last 24hours, with 12 hours to go we thought we were going to crash with a sudden , blackout to the screen, this was tracked down to condensation on the cord for the screen. 108hours in and still working fine.
Impressive. But electronics usually do great in cold environments. What about when they stuck the PS3 in sauna with temperatures reaching 120 degrees for 24 hours?
Strangley enough we thought this would prove to be the ultimate area to kill the console, and to our surprise the only incident we noticed was a slight burning smell that came in around 64hours at 110F, the console was extremely hot when we finished the overall test but had come thru all environments with flying colours.
Considering that the PS3 was actually being playing games or Blu-ray movies, this performance is absolutely incredible. "

^ Wow!! that is incredible!! I live in a city which in the summer the heat can get pretty intense obviously I'm not playing at 110 deg. inside my house, no one could take that!!! but once the A/C on my house went out, it got hot in there! up to 85 deg. and after a few hours of playing on my PS3 I experienced no problems what so ever.

Wow man. Makes me wonder how a lot of people had their PS3's over heat and such. Maybe they stuck it in an oven while trying to play Resistance?

The friend who mentioned overheating may have just assumed this was the case. When a PS3 is on you can feel a good deal of heat if you put your hand near the back or side vents. That is just what you are feeling however, hot air being vented away from the system.

Yes. The PS3 produces an incredible amount of heat. I was surprised by how much it was putting out. Thats why I went ahead and purchased the Intercooler for it. It leaves the PS3 at least 10 degrees cooler. And with that, I've also got a box fan that blows in the general direction of the system. All the heat is gone with these precautions.
It may seem unnecessary or overkill, but so is another 500 for a console or waiting to have it repaired.

I've been thinking about just waiting another year or so for a PS3 just so I can get the "Special" ones. Like the PS2 slim and such, I'm looking more forward to different colors because honestly I think I'm the only person that likes the shape of the console. Also I heard something about Dual Shock 3... Does that mean I won't have to play with the Six-Axis and actually have rumble?

My PC died. I can't play Galaxies, and I'm going through withdrawal. I'm on a laptop.

I'm torn between the Six-Axis controller. Depending on what game I'm playing at the time, it can be fun or just out right annoying. Warhawk and Heavenly Sword have awesome response. Lair and Tony Hawk less than satisfactory.
