Drums on Rock Band will teach you the basics. Coordination, being able to keep a beat, other stuff like that.
Essentially, if you master Hard and can play easily on Expert, then you could essentially play drums at an amateur level.
Don't think you'll be able to play these songs in real life though. Unless you master Expert.

The trick is knowing if you can play the songs on expert if you can play them in real life ;) Which I look forward to finding out!

Anything involving the left foot would be a wake up call, though!

The Rock Band drum set controller has 4 pads and a bass pedal. This setup emulates your average drum kit, but my understanding is that there are songs in the game that will have some pads do double duty, e.g. you'll hit one pad as a cymbal at one point and then use that same pad as a tom or something later on. So even if you've mastered 'Expert' it might confuse you if you tried to play the same way in real life (just try to imagine mapping a 5 pad kit to Neil Peart's 20+ piece monster). But like McFly said, it'll help you with the fundamentals of drumming, sure.

I hope the fact that i'm a pretty sloppy drummer will not translate over to RB, or if RB would actually tighten me up a little, I don't think it'd make me Keith Moon or John Bonham or anything, Maybe Terry Chimes, at best, haha!

I think it will almost work in the ways of GH vs. real guitar.
STOP! I'm not saying you can play guitar if you can play Guitar Hero. What I'm saying is basics.
In Guitar Hero, it's obvious to see that it does indeed train your fingers in a way. Speaking for myself, I can't play guitar, I suck at it, so I started Guitar Hero on Easy. Yea that's right! :P I thought it was gonna be so tough to use my pinky finger. Then I got better. I thought it would be so tough to use the orange note, then I got better. I thought I would never be good at H/O's and P/O's, then I got better! I 5-star most songs on Expert (except the last tier).
I haven't really gone back to trying real guitar, but I would imagine it would be easier to make some notes and chords now that my fingers have that strength and movement training.
For the drums, the same will probably happen. You'll suck at trying to use the bass pedal and both arms independently, but you'll get better. And if you get good enough, MAYBE you can sit down at a drum set and start making a beat.

GH improved my guitar playing in the sense that I was pretty much able to figure out some songs on guitar, and bass,

GH improved my guitar skills... I went from not caring about guitar... to maybe wanting to pick one up one day! On a more serious note... I am a drummer in real life, and i agree with what most others have said about the basics.

This is slightly off-topic, but... anyone know if there will eventually be a double bass add-on?

I can see it happening. All they need to do is split the connection into 2 and plug them both in. I have the piece right on my desk here. You could honestly do it yourself if you have 2 pedals.

Yeah, exactly! Though I'm not sure if it'll be quite that easy, hopefully there will be some kind of adapter or something to get a second bass pedal to hook up down there.

I'm sure a handful of us will be modding or adding onto our kits pretty quickly.
I'm looking forward to polishing up some of my drumming skills coordination-wise on RB... GH has always been a fun "practice" for building fingering strength and speed for me, and when my shoulder was severely screwed up for a few weeks, my basses were too heavy to hold, so GH was good at keeping my muscles at least somewhat used to playing.

GH practice, for a real guitar, can help with: Finger strength, timing, left/right hand co-ordination, speed. For sure.
hahaha, I have a freakishly large left hand muscle like.. under my pinky. Other people must have it too, its like rock solid and bigger than the right hand muscle.
