View Full Version : Recordable Videos: Wouldn't It Be Cool...

I know I should post this on the "Share your ideas for new features thread", but there's another discussion going on there at the moment.
Wouldn't it be cool if you could record your performances for songs? It would be similar to Halo 3's "Theater" where you can watch an entire mission you just completed. Here, you can watch a stylized music video of your recent performances, and upload them for other people to watch. Also, if you are singing, you will be able to hear how your voice sounds (since you can't really tell how you sing when you are singing live). When you're watching a video, you can choose to turn the fretboards on/off (possibly even switch camera angles, or edit your own version of how you think the video should look).
I think this would be a neat extra feature for the game to have that people could have fun messing around with. What's everyone else think?

It would be cool, but I dunno. I'm kinda burnt out on Halo 3's theatre, so maybe that's why I don't really have much to say on this.
There's not much to watch. It's not like Guitar Hero where you record Jordan when you 5 starred and 100% it. It's Rock Band. So far the guitar solos aren't that insane. I don't think I would use this feature, but that's just me.

True, there's not much to record, but again, its all just for fun, and the singing is the main thing to hear how people's voices match up to the real thing. People would probably want to show off their insane Neil Peart skills on Tom Sawyer on expert, too lol.

it's kinda useless unless you can actually see the band, know what I mean? No real interest in watching a band do good/bad on a song.

Ehh, I guess you're right. :( I dunno. I still think it would be cool for people to just mess around with, you know? But if it forces HMX to push the release date back, then by all means, leave it out!

That's getting to be horribly over used now. The only thing I'd really like about it is that you'd have time to apprciate all the venues a bit more since you're not looking at them too much while playing.

You guys are crazy... I've actually had thoughts on this as well, It'd be a very nice touch for RB2. Ever since Tony Hawk used the record feature and save I was always wanting that to come back, and no more games being aimed online it'll be even better. I mean honestly, it'd help the people at there that are pretty damn good at the game but jump online for the first time get noticed.
Think about it, you're messing around offline for a good while but you just pop up online one day and some people start hassling you calling you a noob and what not. Then you show the a few videos and they see that you're actually good at the game. Or it could just be for sitting back and relaxing, getting to enjoy all the well designed venues that HMX has created as well as seeing your character rock out. Oh and that awesome ass lip syncing.

This was kind of discussed before, what you are saying Smoka.
Someone wanted a feature just to hear the songs being played, no notecharts or HUD. Just the venues and the people playing the instruments. And the music was being played.

He said have the option to turn the hud off if you wanted to. So that means you would be able to show off how well you can play, or you could just make a video to enjoy.

I have thought along these lines myself for a while now. How cool would it be that online bands could gain band-like fame for having really good performances? Friends swapping clips among themselves... possible integration with the website... a whole lot of potential in all of that.
Considering the raw quantity of Guitar Hero videos on youtube, I'd say there would be a definate excitement about this sort of feature.

Yeah, that's exactly what I meant. I think that, if done right (what is done WRONG by HMX?), you could make some really awesome videos to just watch, or if you show the note charts, make videos just to show off your skills.
You can show off your ROCKIN' skills and your EDITING skills! :D
btw, Apples what's your new pic? I kinda liked your old panda one.

I think it could be a fun feature if you have some sort of control over the replay (setting camera angles, effects, etc). I would like it more just to watch replays on my own, rather than post online or share though. One sad thing about the GH games is you always focus so much on the fretboard that you never really get to pay attention to what was going on throughout the rest of the screen. If you could watch a replay and take the HUD off, it's definitely something I'd like using once in a while.
Also, I think Apples' avatar is a weighted companion cube, from Portal.

Cool, thanks for the input. You're right, when you're playing the game you have to focus so much on the fretboards you don't get a chance to admire the work HMX put in to make the graphics really good, and the frame rate so fast. Replay videos would change that.
And again, the ability to change camera angles and add effects and whatnot would just throw in a fun factor.

I think it'd be cool to also add in grain effects and "streaks" into the video, give it a grungy look. Or for girls and such have layers to go over the screen that could be hearts, or skulls. Whatever you wanted. To be able to throw together a movie and have the audio recorded as well so you could hear the messing up and such would be really cool. So if you played extremely well, you could share the videos online and people could view them and watch your performance and such.

Yeah, that'd be cool, as far as effects go. Editing techniques like fading between cuts and stuff like that would be neat, too. And what you said about having the audio recorded is a definite must. I mean, you are playing the music, so it should sound like you played it, or sang it. And speaking of singing, just to reiterate on my point earlier, that would be one of the main reasons for these videos: to hear yourself sing and how you really sound to other people.
