Their first album was early metal. That's about it. Maybe The Immigrant Song and The Rover form LZ3 and Physical Graffiti, but that's it.

They spanned many different genres, you can't just say if they're metal or not metal. It's not that simple.

I don't really think those songs are metal. They are some awesome classic rock. They certianly have alot of blues influence. :D

Kashmir is intense, but not metal. Black Dog is groovy classic rock, WtLB is blues rock and Whole Lotta Love is just rock.

Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin are the bands that warranted the title Heavy Metal. They're not up to today's standards for Heavy Metal, but LZ isn't "progressive blues" in the least. Yeah, they have some bluesy songs, but listen to #$%@ing The Ocean for one of the heaviest riffs ever (live > studio)

There is certainly elements of metal in some of their songs and needless to say they inspired a lot of metal bands. But they are not metal.

Let your ears, and your instinct, be the judge. Personally I feel it is impossible to classify Led Zeppelin as anything but "Amazing". :)

Ritchie Blackmore said the same thing yet, many people still call them metal. Although, calling Deep Purple metal is a much more widely accepted statement over Zeppelin is Metal.... but "Led" is literally metal... though it is spelled wrong. I guess the most metal part of Led Zeppelin is their name.

Ionno, it's really debatable about KISS, especially with the wide range of influence on Death Metal they had.

For instance, Chuck Schuldiner and Derek Roddy both picked up their respective instruments because of watching KISS perform live.
