"Operation Omega Dawn!"

We’ve just finished development of our v1.2 patch and our first Booster Pack, Operation: Omega Dawn!…which is very different than “Red Dawn” or “Dawn of the Dead”

I’d like to give our blog readers a bit of info on our first downloadable content – and I’ll try to keep in away from sounding to much like a sales-pitch filled with shallow marketing-speak. The team and I really wanted the Omega Dawn Booster pack to add a new gameplay experience and to enhance the replay value of the core Warhawk game. Not be some nickel-and-dime upgrade that takes advantage of our player community!!! (That’s my own personal opinion on DLC so I’ll get off my soapbox now)

So without further ado…

The Omega Dawn Booster pack adds 3 key things:

* A night-time battlefield with 6 layouts called the “Omega Factory”. It’s huge btw.
* New 7-player aircraft called the KT-424 Combat Dropship.
* And 5 updated bonus layouts for battlefields from the original game so that you can play using the new Dropship.

First let me ramble on about the new battlefield: Many of you all wanted a night time level so that’s what we did. The battlefield takes place at night well… actually at early dawn. We wanted to make this level a bit more challenging and visually improved than our previous levels. It has more involved building layouts with more vertical structures, platforms and detailed spaces for ground troops.

Here’s the map of the entire battlefield.

This more advanced layout compliments the dropship really well as there are some places in the level that are only accessible by air. This is especially cool for transporting vehicles! We also added some macro scale color changes to the bases to help players communicate locations within the symmetrically balanced battlefield.

You’ll see all of this more in these screen shots so I’ll stop talking about the new battlefield now

The Combat Dropship is pretty damn sweet I gotta say. During the entire Omega Dawn dev-cycle I was trying to have us deliver on the crazy notion of a “Multiplayer BOSS”. Something that a team could all work together to control and that would require other players to work as a team to defeat the opposing team’s “BOSS”. We’ve had several just wicked memorable moments playing with our testers that felt like classic BOSS battles … but in a fast-paced multiplayer game!

What else?

Oh yeah…we also integrated the Combat Dropship in the 5 biggest layouts from the original game. It really changes the way those levels play which is good ‘cause it gives them a fresh feel … like an Irish spring!

Ahh…there are 2 things you will all ask immediately I’m sure: “when does it come out?” and “how much does it cost?”

We are in our final global test phase right now (internally it’s called format testing). Once we pass and go “gold” (which is a pretty odd term given a purely digital distribution but whatever) then I can announce a specific date. But we are still on track for our “December” release.

And as far as pricing goes – the Omega Dawn Booster Pack will sell for $7.99 on the PlayStation Store. Why don’t we just charge $8.00? I mean seriously? Does that one penny really fool anyone?

I’ll probably need to make some follow-up posts once you all have had a chance to comment. So smash this site with questions and I’ll do my best to post a FAQ about the upcoming Booster Pack!

Operation Mega Dawn Revealed!

Sony has just released 28 new screenshots of the Operation: Omega Dawn pack for Warhawk.

The Operation: Omega Dawn pack for Warhawk features an enhanced level of teamwork, tactics and coordinated aerial assaults with the new KT-424 Combat Dropship.

* Omega Factory battlefield includes 5 new map layouts featuring advanced building complexes and huge
industrial towers.

* KT-424 Combat Dropship transports 1 pilot, 6 soldiers and 1 ground vehicle; and features a deadly new
weapon ? the MBEC-3 Heavy Support Cannon.

* The 5 large layouts from the original battlefields have been modified to include the KT-424 Combat Dropship

Just wanted to make a quick post to let everyone know that the Warhawk v1.1 patch will be deployed world-wide on Friday, November 2nd, during an extended maintenance window between 5am and 9am Pacific.

Some of you were able to download the v1.1 patch before it was ?officially? ready (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/10/24/warhawk-11-patch-escapes-early/). Since this occurred without the server-side updates to complement it, not all of the fixes would have functioned. Specifically, the viral-rank-up fix and the time-in-vehicle stat fix. Once we bring the system back online Friday, 9am Pacific, these fixes will be functional.

Also, once we deploy the patch, when you boot Warhawk, you will be prompted by the XMB to download the v1.1 patch. This is a fast download so it?s not a time killer. Once the XMB has pulled the patch down, Warhawk will boot back up and be happy! You will also notice a ?v1.1? in the lower right corner of the screen.

So, we?ll be monitoring the roll-out tomorrow and this weekend so please check the forums (http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board?board.id=warhawk) for more info!

Ok ? so last week I posted about our v1.1 patch which mainly dealt with core stats and connection issues. Today, I?d like to let all of you know what?s included in the v1.2 patch that is being tested right now.

Patch v1.2 addresses some main requests that our community has made as well as fixes the primary exploits and glitches ? and adds some new layouts!

Patch v1.2 includes:
* 5 New layouts.
* Clan game server option.
* Buddy slot reservations.
* Integrated Warhawk Store.
* Updated CTF capture/return behavior.
* Internal stat padder protection.
* Booster Pack status display at join game list.
* DualShock3 integration.
* Separate SIXAXIS motion control on/off per mode (ground, hover, flight).
* Detailed Player Score display at end of game fixed.
* Added new server type filters (player, ranked, dedicated, clan, Official Warhawk, etc).
* Added new server full/open filter.
* Fall damage exploit fixed.
* Dismount into walls exploit fixed.
* Invisible Tank, Turret & Warhawk exploit fixed.
* Auto-kick of idle players.
* Add to Favorites button added to end game screen.
* Increased VOIP volume when not using headset.

There are a couple of items on this list that probably need a bit more clarification

The new clan-game server option lets you set 2 clan names, one for the Eucadian team and one for the Chernovan team. Then, when you launch the game, the server will auto-sort the clans on the correct teams. The server will also only allow members of those 2 clans to connect. Clan games are also displayed in a different color at the join game list.

Buddy slot reservations allow you to specify a number of player slots on the server that *only* players in your PSN buddy list can join. So go ahead and kick up a game and you can always make sure that you friends can jump in with you and get their Warhawk on!

We also fixed what a lot of players refer to as the ?tank? glitch. This actually could happen to turrets and Warhawks too. It is an annoying exploit and we?re happy to have it fixed ? I?m sure all of you will be too!

We enabled DualShock3 functionality in the V1.2 patch too ? maybe you all have heard something about this or read about it on the internet? Ha Ha

The Warhawk Store is also going to be enabled in v1.2. This allows players to purchase Warhawk content, Booster Packs, etc from within Warhawk, rather than going through the XMB and then to the store ? this is mainly for convenience.

And of course some new layouts ? as you?ve seen from the images scattered throughout this post!

We have found that while a lot of players like playing the really large games, there was a pretty big segment that was playing smaller games. With that trend, we wanted to rig some new layouts that are more geared for smaller games; 4 to 8 players. The new layouts are:

* Eucadia: High City
* Island Outpost: Standoff
* The Badlands: South City
* Destroyed Capitol: Garden Showdown
* Archipelago: Close Corridors

So there you have it. The update list for patch v1.2 that is currently being tested right now and we are tracking an early to mid December global release.

And of course I can?t end this post without mentioning the Booster Pack. So there, I said it??Booster Pack?

Surprisingly no, the only game I've ran into that on the PS3 was Madden (which thank God I rented) but I do have to hear TheRocker talk every now and then.

I wasn't a fan. I've never been a fan of racing games. If you get the PS3 recently. I do suggest Warhawk fully. Heavenly Sword is most definitely worth a rent. It was just too short although, the last hour was one of the greatest thing I've seen in a video game.

Well Warhawk has plenty more to offer, since on top of fighting on foot, you can also ride a Jeep, Tank or the infamous warhawk. Sure it doesn't look as pretty (graphics) as Resistence, but you quickly forget about that cus the game can get pretty intense!! Also the rewards, ranking, character customization, are much better in warhawk and with this new patch even better. Plus a lot more DLC in the future. So yeah, I would say get Warhawk first. :)

Edit: Oh, forgot to mention, Warhawk is online play only, no solo campaign.

I like how the farther up you go in rank, the more options make your character stick out like a sore thumb. Like, I'm ranked as a Commander, and I decided to make my armor neon orange. Once they fix the rankings, it seems like the more of an eyesore you are, the better rank you'll be, hehe.

My PSN name is Zookey and my clan is the Montana Yakooza (usually, Yakuza--but Yakuza offends Warhawk's language filter)-- which is MtY -----hit me up dude hehe!

My suggestion BTW---get a PSEye and use it for your voice chatting---that way you can just download Warhawk and call it good---the bluetooth set is nice but there isn't a noticable (to me) downgrade in quality when you move to the PS Eye's mic and it is way more convienient---another thing to note---make sure you don't have the RB mic and the PSEye hooked up at the same time while playign RB--it will screw with the vocals and make your singer's life hell......

Yeah tomorrow the 1.2 Patch is released with a lot of fixes and 12 new map layouts , and the 20th Map with Dropship is released , and later 1.3 will be released and that one will be free.

Dang, I'm still playing the hell out of Rock Band. I've been ignoring Pain and EoJ, now I gotta get into some Warhawk again. I never even got a chance to play Uncharted, Folklore, Assassin's Creed, and Ratchet & Clank... just to name a few. Who started that "PS3 has no games" rumor?

Also, I'm barely into Super Mario Galaxy, Peggle, and I haven't even touched Geometry Wars yet.

It's a great era for gamers indeed.

I just finished getting raped by my last final, and I'll be taking a nice 12 hour drive up to NY tomorrow (from NC), so I figured I'd unwind with a few hours of Warhawk tonight. If anyone else is around, look for me, as I've been hoping to play with a few of the forum people at some point.

I'll probably log on around 8-9pm'ish, EST.
