Well it seems that a lot of people here post that you cannot play expert without breaking your drum kit or failing because of the dropped notes.
So does anyone here play well on Expert, and use the stock drum kits without any modifications?

Yep, I do. I got to #15 (have no idea where I am now) on Indestructible by Disturbed and #4 on Sick Sick Sick by Queens Of The Stone Age. Ps3 Leaderboards.
All stock drum stuff. I aint paying extra just to play better.

Yes it is possible as I finished my expert career on the stock set before I modded or starting using a third party kit

As did I. I finished my expert career within a few days of getting the game back in November, before all the mods had been discovered/created/developed/pick-whatever-word-you-wish. But my scores weren't all that great since my EL kit would break my streaks all over the place.

I sure don't now though :)

I'm sittin' at 114/114 on expert drums with the same kit and pedal I had on launch day.

I do. I have some problems with my yellow pad but other than that things are pretty good all around.

All stock here as well. Last time I checked leaderboards 70th place on psn. I will say I'm on 7th drumkit and 2nd pedal. I could probably do slightly better if I took the time to mod due to stupid note drops occassionly, but it's not really worth the bother to me. That being said I hope the prof drums mad catz are coming out with work as good as they look. Might be shelling out the dough for those. :)

i started a little late with rock band (mid april i believe) and after checking forums and such decided to mod my kit ahead of time before actually playing. foam/felt is all I did, and cleared hard career (haven't beaten expert career simply because I just started doing quickplay with expert). Got a couple of good scores (#4 on indestructible expert and #3 on RTTH expert :>)

I play with the regular stock kit with the stock pedal. I bought a mega pedal but I like the stock pedal better.

My pedal snapped about 2 weeks ago, and I've been playing expert since January.

No mods. My EL set has been good to me :).

You asked two different questions in the same thread.

You asked "expert drummers, do you use stock equipment?"

and "is it possible to beat expert drums with stock equipment?"

Those are two completely different questions.

I beat every song in the game, plus about 35 DLC including The Perfect Drug, with all stock equipment. I also did the endless setlist on expert drums with the stock pedal. Playing heel down no less.

Since then, I've purchased an Omega pedal, and I love it. Now I play heel up and I've added about 2 million to my career score since I bought it.

I started out on Easy at launch and now on Expert have 111/122 songs completed, 69 5*, 11 5G*. Dead On Arrival kicks my ass.

I use a stock kit, with the exception that I added gum rubber pads sometime in March. I play exclusively heel-down and my leg stamina has gotten a lot better but still isn't where it needs to be.

So I would say Yes with an asterisk since I have the gum rubber pads.

i beat 133 out of 137 songs on a completely barebones stock QM kit (no mods, no socks, etc.)

i could not pass RTTH due to red pad issues and finally broke down and put the sock on there last week. one sock, one rubber band.. and i am kicking myself for not having done it sooner.

i beat RTTH the first day with the sock, and just beat WGFA last nite to (finally) get my AN-I-MAL achievement.

this is also my original set of drums and have been playing on it 6-7 months. i have no complaints.

(i did have to send back the guitar once, and already broke the strummer on my new guitar, but thats a story for another thread)

so yes, in response to your question its quite possible to beat the game on a stock set (but i'd recommend a sock if you happen to have a QM.)

I originally beat expert tour with a stock EL set from launch day. At that time i was ranked 140 on psn.

Since then, my EL kit crapped out on me, I was sent an SL kit, which i modded for cross-talking issues and have been able to work my way up to 58 on PSN (last time i checked)

Beat 130/131 songs (BBF...) with stock everything, 5*ing everything except for RTTH (mah only 3*), WGFA, Outside, Move Along, Blackened, and The Perfect Drug. 21 Gold Stars on disk, plus a bunch more for DLC. Stock everything since December.

However, my friend broke my pedal at a party I brought Rock Band to. Tragic irony that my friend broke my on his fifth time, while I had been kicking ass for six months straight?

i'm should be using my electronic set in a few weeks (moving to south carolina next week), but thus far i've been using a stock set with no mods since launch.
i have everything 5 or gold-starred except for blackened, blinded by fear, and run to the hills. i don't play a lot and i'm not into the scorehero perfect path stuff, but i think i've done well for my situation...
excusing my disgusting obsession with team fortress classic back in the day i've just never been into cut-throat competitive gaming.
