Are PS2 guitars & drums compatible with xbox?

I've searched the internet extensively for this answer but unfortunately, my searches are polluted with people asking if Guitar Hero guitars are compatible with the Rock Band game and visa versa.

MY question however is, are the PS2 Rock Band guitars and drums compatible with the Xbox version of Rock Band as well?

Easily, my first guess is no, but considering they all seem to hook up to their respected consoles via USB.. causes me to take a second thought. USB is USB no matter where you plug it. But will the PS2/PS3 instruments make the crossover?

USB is merely a standardized interface socket. That does not mean that the information transferred between the items is identical, only the plugs.

Sony and Microsoft products use entirely different ways of talking to their peripherals.
