View Full Version : Worst day in gaming history

So I'm on my computer gaming it up a little last night, and the batteries in my wireless keyboard die. It just infuriated me for some reason, and I ended up hogan stomping the keyboard (I want a new one anyways). So then pissed and keyboardless, I decided to indulge myself in some Rock Band practice aka GHII. I turn my 360 on and it freezes at the 360 screen. I reboot it and the worst possible ****ing thing happens less then a month away from Rock Band....Red Ring of Death. Freaking out by this point I unplug the power for about 5 minutes plug back in, and same thing. Checked all connections and all are good, contact Microsoft and they say its gonna take a week to a week and a half just to get the box to ship it back to them and then 3-4 weeks for them to fix and ship back. I was wondering if anyone on here has ever had to send their 360 back to Microsoft and about the turn around on recieving it back. Oh and this is my 2nd Xbox 360 the first one just wouldn't turn on and i returned that one back to the store. The PS3 is starting to look good.

Cliff Notes: Anyone know the about turn around for getting a 360 back from Microsoft for repairs.

It's funny that the PS3 gaming base is growing with infuriated 360 owners.

I own a PS3 myself.

My friend's 360 has broken four times now, and it's actually varied between 3-5 weeks before he got his back. When it took longer they gave him free xbox points.

Also, I'm sorry for your terrible day in gaming. :D

I'd towel trick it while the box is getting sent.

Ahh yes. I remember the towell trick. It didn't work for me. Guitar Hero II killed me 360. I got an Xbox 360 in July of '06. I got Guitar Hero II the day it came out on the 360. I was playing some Deep Purple and it died.

Use the Wal-Mart Glitch and return you broken one in the new one's box. You'll get two free games and a brand new 360 without paying a damn thing!

here in canada it's about 7 day turn around. i bought mine at xmas last year , **** on me in May, got a new one in about 7 days runs cooler, quiter and never had a problem since. i would not buy a ps3 at this time there is really a lack of games compared to the 360 but that will change. I think if you get your 360 repaired you will get the new falcon chip with the new heat shinks.

This also just happened to me, took 2 days for them to ship the box. I'll be cutting it close with getting it back for rock band.

Exactly what i was thinking. Maybe not take the two games, but just switch the 360's.

When I first did it, it came with only one: some motocross game. I thought they'd open the box, so I swapped serial numbers and left the game inside (Since there was this huge, freakin' sticker on the front saying "Hey kids! FREE game!")

I got my 3 red light smile about 10 days ago. It's killin me especially with GH3 coming out next week. Im hoping i can get my 360 back by the time Rock Band comes out.

Never send your 360 in to Microsoft. One of my friends got the three red rings four times, and it turns out that they sent him back his same console UNTOUCHED! They didn't open it up or anything. Just exploit the Wal-Mart Glitch.

It's the term started on the Xbox Forums about returning your broken 360 in the new one's box, getting 100% money back and a fresh console.

It's also the reason kids get "new" 360 and they're broken. Then they cry about how much the 360 sucks. No one ever takes into consideration of WHY the xbox ****s up on them. They just assume M$ makes ****ty consoles. Really, they did try to put the 360 out to fast. They should of waited at least a year, they made the same damn mistake Sega made and now look at the Dreamcast2, oh right. There isn't one.

Yeah I know. Isn't it great?

Plus, many people consider the Xbox 360 to be the DreamCast 2.

More than likely it is. If 360s keep RRoD on people then M$ is going to have to make a new system soon and make sure it's actually going to last, rather than die on someone. I have had any problems with my 360 so far, hopefully it'll stay that way. If it messed up, I'll get it fixed from M$ then just mod it to my likings.

I sent mine back. It kept freezing up. Took them 3 business days to get the box. They got is 3 business days later and took about a week and a half to fix it. They sent it Thursday of this week and I should have it by Tuesday. That means one day short of three weeks. At least I know it's coming back and only hope it is fixed. If not I'll do the Wal-Mart thing.

I dont see why so many peoples 360s break now. Microsoft said they fixed the problem by using lead in the soldering now, so the components are stable and wont just melt clean off the motherboard (or whatever, i know nothing about electronics).

I turned mine on one day, red ringed. Off and on again, red ringed. Turned it on the third time, and it was fine. Think alot of people need to remember its a delicate piece of technology, very unstable sometimes. I keep my feet away from the desk i have it on, put it vertically, leave enough space so the intercooler can actally work and cool it all down and make sure it wont fall off the desk.

Sorry for this, hope it comes back soon.

The 360 is no PS2. I'm 99% sure it wasn't made for vertical use because you got the Hard Drive on one side, and the fan vent on the other.

My 360 broke down on me two days before Bioshock came out. That was a pretty sucky day for gaming.

yep and it's completely true. though it wasn't that bad since my bro-in-law lent me his 360 for a couple of days so i still go to play bioshock but i didn't have my own 360 for a couple of weeks :\

My 360 died on me the day Guitar Hero II came out (Red Ring of Death during Hush). I also got the red rings when Halo 3 came out. But luckily, it wasn't fatal. I just powered down and turned it back on. Problem solved.

Motley is correct, it should be horizontal, also because more airflow can get into it. might want to put 4 rubber pieces under it as well. I'm hoping this is just a heating issue, if it is I should be ok. If my 360 breaks down then I definitely know it's not a heating issue, it's just the system was made poorly. If however it is still running by this time next year, I'll be happy and it will just be heating problems.

MotleyPriest111
10-20-2007, 01:30 PM
Yeah, we all know how well that's working out! :D

Keep your Xbox 360 on a high surface away from walls or anything blocking air fow. The vents suck in dust and air particles, so have your console in an open area for best performance.

Ouch.

Well, anyway, I have a shiny new 360 Elite to show for it. :D (My wallet had to suffer, though). I wasn't in the mood for the whole "send console for repairs" circus routine.

Uh, the manual says it's ok.

Yes, but the manual is a filthy, lying communist.

The big difference is... when your 360 dies you get upset because you actually have some games to play.

My PS3 might be faulty... who knows... only played two games on it.

Yup, sometimes they just throw some stickers back on it and such and put it up on the shelf again. That whole process where they are "SUPPOSE" to check the packages and everything has gone out the window. One got his 360 from a K-Mart and a friggin game was inside the thing.
