View Full Version : Wii ROCK BAND does not work

Just purchased the Wii Rock Band today. setup instructions are lacking.
We have owned and played our Wii for over one year. So I know the Wii system is working correctly.
You must update your system with some new software from the Rock Band disc. Be ready for that. Completed successfully.
Drum set works fine. We can practice and solo.
MIC does not work.
Guitar does not work.
No instructions for the MIC whatsoever.
Guitar instructions do not tell me if the blue wireless network lights should be flashing or solid. Mine are persistently flashing then eventually stop.
Guitar instructions do not tell me what that button on the USB plug is for. So, since I am having problems, I press it in hopes that I can make the darn game work.
Batteries are in correctly, otherwise I would not be getting flashing lights.
Power button is on otherwise I would not be getting flashing lights.
I am thinking of removing this sytem from our house. It should not be this difficult or complicated or sadly lacking in setup instructions, especially since Rock Band has been out for about one year.

to make it work.
Turn on all your game wands that you have had with the Wii. We have three of them.
One of them became player ONE allowing the MICROphone to function. The microphone is now Player 1. And the microphone works. The singing works and gets scores.
Player 2 used to be the drummer, but now the drummer is player 3 because I turned on the game wands.
The guitar I assume is Player 2, but still does not connect. Nothing.
Guitar still does not function.

yeah when i bought if for my 360 it took awhile for my brain to realize the mic needed a controller cuz i was like, well how do i navigate through the screens with no buttons on the mic.
for the guitar it sounds like it works like one my wireless controllers. there should be a button on the guitar and a button on the dongle plugged in. push those buttons at the same time, hold them both down for like 1-2 seconds and the guitar should synch.
hope that helps!

I am so frustrated. I got Rockband for the wii and have not been able to complete a single song without the fricking thing freezing. Is this a game flaw or should I be exchanging my game. None of the other games I have for the wii freeze.

Thanks, for input.
DONGLE is the unit that connects to the USB ports. Not the guitar, but it came in the guitar box with your rock band game. It is about a 2 inch square white looking block.
I tried the dongle button and the itty bitty white button on guitar for five seconds. NO syncing.
I tried the dongle button and the itty bitty white button on guitar for five seconds, then hit the bigger guitar button, Step 7 in worthless instructions, NO syncing.
I tried the dongle button on and the bigger button that flashes blue for 30 seconds. NO syncing.
I tried all three buttons for 30 seconds, no sycning.
No syncing no guitar. NO solution.
Endless frustration. CHECK!!!

Lots of posters on here think you could be a neophyte and not understand how to hook things up!!
Glad you found some use on this website.
As for me, since I purchased the system early today, I was allowed to be the first one to complain about the system. And to get a lemon.
There were no posts whatsoever on how to do anything, I was an early bird, for the WII since it was just released today.
Do not worry about me, yes I have the batteries in and yes the power button is on. Otherwise, how would I have ever gotten the blue lights to be flashing on the guitar. A few other posters have the same issue, and that is those of us that post.
Think of all those that have bought the game as a gift and have not tried yet.
Or the others that have not even begun to post because they are too lazy.
The dongle is a piece of crap and I suspect it will have a high failure rate.
Mark these words, the dongle will be an accessory with a "built in" obsolescence that requires you to keep buying one every 61 days in order to make the guitar(s) work.
Did I mention that there is a 60 day hardware warranty on Rock Band for the Wii?

I was able to play for about 30 minutes before my guitar broke.
The red button is jammed some how. It is physically not depressed, but it still registers....so any green notes I need to hit, I cannot.
I am so P.O.ed!
I spend 170 bucks for a pre order....wait 6 weeks for it to come out....and then the darned thing doesn't even last 30 minutes before it breaks!
ARGH!!!!!

That is for all consoles.
I am sorry to hear though of all these difficulties. So there are dongles and such required? Seems way more complicated than the wired stuff the rest of us have...And even the wireless guitars for ps3/360 just use proprietary syncing, not using a dongle.

I am so glad I flushed 170 bucks down the toilet for this piece of crap instead of waiting the 5 months to get Guitar Hero World Tour.

It's not a waste at all. I ditched GH because hey, there's no singing or drumming. So when I got RB? I basically threw out the guitar and now exclusively use the drums. If you only wanted to play the guitar, all you would had to have done is simply buy the disc and use your old guitar from your previous GH game.
So...simply file an express RMA and sit back and while the box comes...actually use those other things in the box there.

I didn't get Rock Band to simply play the guitar....I have Guitar Hero 1,2 and 3 to do that.....I bought Rock Band so I could include the other members of my family while playing.....

and you still can. maybe i missed the part that said you couldnt?
edit: ahh i see your guitar button is screwey. yeah that happens. my guitar broke within the first week. EA's controllers suck. the only negative to rock band.

Because the guitar is broken.
Worked just fine for the first 30 minutes, then we were ready to play a song and I noticed I couldn't hit any green notes. We restarted and I noticed that the red button is constantly registering as being pressed....but the button is not physically depressed.....so now Rock Band is little more than a fancy Karoke machine with a drum

The wrong terminology is being used by wiiwannabe....it is NOT a dongle. What is used is probably exactly what PS3 users have...a wireless transmitter that plugs into a USB hub.....much like a wireless mouse or keyboard would use.

ok my bad paul. i missed your earlier post and corrected myself. im sorry about your guitar breaking. welcome to the world of rock band. amazing game but difficult to play cuz of the crappy peripherals.
all i can say is maybe take it back cuz you just bought it or call up EA and theyll send you a new and hopefully working one. (unlike my third guitar)
if you can finally get some good controllers it is an amazing game trust me!

Okay I'm having problems with my USB Wireless Transmitter for connecting my guitar. I picked it up this afternoon and played about 3 or 4 songs on it. I used the drums and was later able to connect the guitar to play with a family member. I turned it off packed it up took it to a friend's and we played there for a while again for about 5 or 6 songs. I bring it home now and it doesn't want to work. I noticed earlier it would glow blue when you connected the guitar and now it doesn't glow blue or anything. I've tried all the ports on my wii and the usb hub.. it all works fine. But for some reason this Transmitter doesn't work. I did notice however when I shake it, it makes a sound like something is moving inside of it. Does anyone else get this sound?

I'm right there with ya buddy. Mine either freezes on the selection screen (where you choose Quickplay or Tour) or between songs. It's so much fun! I'm so glad I chose overnight shipping on this for the extra money.
And, yes, NONE of my other disks have any problems.

I have waited for soooooooo long for this game. My son was really anxious on us rocking together. The fun lasted for about 2 hours.
After a quick lunch break, the guitar ceased to work. The Dongle blinks blue hues and the guitar wont even turn on. When attempted, the guitar will faintly glow blue on the 4 leds for less than a second.
Has EA looked onto this? I initiated a RMA but I suspect that I will get the same CHEAPOCASTER Guitar that will last for 2-3 hours.
At this point, this game is costing me 180(paid to gamestop)+125(Rma deposit)=305 USD !^%$&
BIG DISAPPOINTMENT.
KRAP BAND.
Too bad GH4 is still 5 months away....

GH World Tour (releasing in October) will include a mic for singing and a much better drum kit. Just an FYI.
I am afraid that maybe buying RB (because I'm so impatient and can't wait until October) WAS indeed a waste! It's not working with my Wii, the instructions suck, the booklet has no info for technical problems (troubleshooting), and you can't call EA for support. I just bought this crap today and my Wii is new also. Hence it is not the console or the disc that's a problem... And yet, the only support info I was able to find in regards to freezes/crashes was that its either the console or the disc.
WRONG!
Anyway - it (IMHO) is clearly a waste and I just wanted to give you that FYI about GH coming out in October having a mic. I think I'll sell my RB and get that instead...

all i do is first make sure my guitar is OFF, then press the button on the white box and hold it down until you switch the back to ON....i don't even have to press any buttons on the guitar itself, except the switch in the back, for me the sync button won't work on my guitar either.

I don't understand why we can't make our own characters and go to the shop like people on the PS3b and the XBOX360 can. I mean, the Wii can get on the internet too! We can't even put our profiles on here FFS!

Okay, so my guitar is on, I have one wii wand on, and the microphone isn't plugged in.
I have the same problem as WiiWannabe, sort of. I'll turn my guitar on, and the lights will start flashing then eventually stop. Nothing will happen besides that, and no matter what I try I can't get Player One to switch from Microphone to Guitar. Should I try taking the batteries out of the Wii Wand that's currently on? I'm very confused... x.x

We solved every issue at start up by turning all Wii remotes on. Sometimes you have to hit the "A" button on all of them before you get it all to jive.

If you got a USB hub with it try using a different one. When I got my PS3 version the USB hub i got with it didn't work. I wasn't expecting one to be in there anyway so I bought one and that worked fine.

I had the same problem. The instructions are very lacking. I finally got the guitar to sync up. These cheap junkie strats keep missing notes. I wish I could use the GH guitar on this game.
Major let down.
Do they even test what they sell or simply let us waste our money and test it for them. $180 down the drain. You think I would have learned from my experience from RB and the 360. The drums that came with the Wii special edition is still good (knocks on wood).

I read through through the comments.
1. Instuctions suck. No instucitons on teh mic. Thanks for the info attaching to the controller. Unfortionately I only have 2, so I can only do 2 of the 3 things at once until I get a new controller.
2. To sink, follow the instructions but once the controllers are in the guitar and drums, pull battery out and re sync. That should work.
3. Music.....less then desired for a rock guy. I am thinkn of returning it as well, or going out and purchasing another song list.
4. Question, can you get the Beatles or Van Halen music for this?
