Why are there not a bunch of people on line to handle the load of frustrated people trying to install the game.

Or maybe I am the only one.

I would have thought there would be tech support on line to handle the anticipated problems that might come up.

Such as, you must have one of the game wand controllers on for the MIC to work. No where in the instructions does it tell you that. Actually, the instructions do not even mention the microphone.

While I also found the instruction manual extremely lacking in some areas I didn't think you could use the mic without having a game controller attached. Otherwise how would you navigate through the menus? By shouting 'Up' or other directions and then 'Confirm' and 'Back'? :p

That's true for every version of Rock Band. I have the 360 version and I have to have one of my controllers on to use the mic. The mic doesn't have buttons on it and you need to be able to select songs and difficulties and such.

They are fairly generic questions that are

1. answered by the in game help screens

2. Easily answered by anyone, regardless of console.

I don't know about the rest of you, but just about everyone I knew who bought the game thought their microphone was broken because of this. I still think it's hilarious.

Is there any demand for this game for Wii? Seems to be everywhere at regualr price. Shame...

I am so bummed! We cam home and cannot get the guitar to work. I have the "dongle" plugged in and it's flashing a blue light. I have put the batteries in the guitar, pressed the connect button as the directions say, still nothing. Pressed the button on the "dongle" and the guitar at the same time, still nothing. Made sure the batteries were in correctly, tried it all again, still nothing. Replaced the batteries....tried it all again.....still nothing.

Anyone have any pointers? According to the directions I have done it all correctly....We can use the mic and drums, but not the guitar.

I got rock band at bestbuy a few hours ago. Everything was easy to set up and they work flawlessly.

did you switch the guitar to 'on' on the back?

Ok - so that is a very valid question since I didn't mention that I did that.....but, I did.....I promise. And, WHAT IS WRONG with this? I honestly have no clue why it won't work.....;)

By the way, did anyone "pre-order" an additional guitar? I did, only to learn that those aren't being released for another week or so.....Hello? WHY would they do that? It's silly! My four kids are going to be sadly disappointed that they can only drum and sing until I get this dang guitar figured out!

Can you please tell me step by step exactly how you got your guitar to work.....? I would appreciate it so much. I mean, I am not some old fogie that just doesn't know what I am doing..... I am pretty savvy about this kind of stuff so frustration is beginning to set in. Maybe I am missing something....but I don't see how....I guess I have a defective guitar?

I promise....I am not this "simple" ... WAH!!!!

According to the tech support hotline, the dongle should display a red light. I have tried plugging it into every USB port available and cannot get anything from it. According to tech support, I have to initiate a claim to get a replacement.

Just a little FYI for anyone else who seems to be struggling.

BUMMER!

Please if you do not have a solution why respond?

How difficult would it be to have a one page instruction

MIC operating manual.
Step 1 Plug in MIC to USB port
Step 2 Turn on Game controller.
Step 3 Sing like a star

end of manual.

What they do have,
Page 13
Lead Singer
Plug in your USB compatible microphone and prove it as the lead vocalist.
NOte: YOU MUST HAVE A MICROPHONE TO SING. ANY USB-COMPATIBLE MIC SHOULD WORK.

Does it say plug in the game controller? Nope. I still have not found it.

My guitar instruction manual is cover page, 2 pages of warnings in other langauges, a picture page, and then 3 pages of CYA fluff. No where does it mention in order to SYNC the guitar you MUST press the button on the USB wireless plug.

Also, since my USB dongle does not even work, I cannot even use the guitar.

Now, for you smart repliers
1. Yes, I have plugged the dongle into the USB 2.0 4 HUB ports 1, 2, 3, and 4. I have also plugged it into the other USB port on the back of my Wii. Guess what, I have squat. No guitar. No functionality whatsoever.

Now, since I have been playing Guitar Hero with my wireless guitar why would I need another wireless system? Did not the Wii already work wirelessly? I believe the answer would be YES.

But, by golly, you need another wireless system on top of the one you have.

1. Did you have to have a "Wiimote" on for the drum set for Rock Band? NO.

2. If the guitar worked, did you have to have a "wiimote" on for the guitar to work? Nope. Unlike the Guitar Hero guitar where you plugged the "wiimote" into the guitar.

3. So, by logical assumption you would think that in order for the MIC to function it just plugs into the USB port and goes. Because no where in the instructions does it say you need one or do not need one.

Now, since I have NEVER played rock band, as you posters that have join dates prior to June 2008 have, why would I know that the MIC "needs" a "wiimote?" I could start an insult war but there is no point in that.

The instruction set never ever said the MIC needs a game controller on. Tell me where it says that in the Wii instruction manual and you win the prize.

Now, since the people provided instruction manuals for the guitar and drum set, and nothing for the MIC why would I think to turn on a game controller?

OK, now let us go on about the GUITAR. If you are reading you will notice that others are having problems with the guitar also. Dongle does not work, guitar does not work or nothing works. Hmmmm, do you think there might be a problem?

The Wii Rock Band went on sale today, June 22. Several new people are here, because we read the instruction manual and in order for us to make the game to work we need help.

And it says to come here.

I guess that was a fallacy also.

Not to insult your intelligence, WiiWannabe, but everyone else who's gotten the game today and has been posting on these forums have claimed it really easy to set up.

... Perhaps your instruments are broken?

Yeesh, sorry to hear about you guy's tech. difficulties. But the mic-controller complaint is very minor, as HMX was assuming customers (regardless of system) would make the connection that since the mic has no control inputs, you would need a controller. Their oversight.

As for the guitar issue, I'm a PS3 owner so I've been through the wireless setup. My troubleshooting tips are:
1) Change batteries. Yes, the screw is annoyingly small, but for whatever reason this can help.
2) Press the dongle, then the guitar button in the crevase that is in front of the Home button. Here's a bad diagram to help: (<I ])I o ) Bolded is the button you need to press, and the <[ ] is the Home button.
3) Take out the dongle and put it back in.
4) After pressing the dongle and guitar buttons, press the Home button.
5) Toggle the ON-OFF switch.

Hope this helps future rockers!

ok so they left that out. how would you consider navigating through the menus with just the microphone? when i first plugged in my mic, it didnt light up as a controller so i thought it was broken. the other instruments lit up as controllers so i was thinking hmmmmm since the mic has no buttons maybe the controllers buttons would work.

and what do you know...THEY DID!

it just takes some common sense. all the other instruments have buttons on them. the mic doesnt. so use your BRAIN.

P.S. i tried being polite earlier today when you first posted trying to help you out but all you seem to do now is clutter up the boards about how the book didnt tell you this and that. im sorry if your wireless dongle is broken. contact EA and tell them or return the whole thing to the store you bought it at today and get a new one. just please stop complaining!

I remember asking my fiancee "there are no buttons on the mic anywhere?".

That was back in November, with the ps3 version. It does make sense when you think about it, but neglecting to mention it in the manual just serves to frustrate the end consumer because it's not something that just comes to mind straight away.

Put simply, it's exactly the kind of information that should be in the manual.

Okay guys, I just got the game at around 2pm EST, and it was all set up in about 10 minutes, working flawlessly.
(And yea, I was a bit bummed out that I couldn't a get a second guitar today as well, but meh.)

This isn't rocket science. I'll walk it through step by step.

1. The Prep

- Set up the drums according to directions. Be sure to plug the USB cord on the drum kit into the USB hub.

- Take the microphone USB plug, and put that into the USB hub.

- Take the wireless guitar receiver, and plug that into the USB hub. Also, insert the 3 AA batteries inside the guitar (you need a screw driver to get the cover off). Also, before you use the guitar, turn the switch to ON.

(Side Note: You MUST plug the drums/mic/guitar receiver INTO THE USB HUB. DO NOT PLUG THEM STRAIGHT INTO THE CONSOLE. Only the USB hub should plug into the console)

- Plug the USB hub into the back of the Wii console.

- Make sure the Console is plugged in, works fine, etc. Get a Wiimote.

2. Turning It On

- Turn on the console, either by Wiimote or hitting the power button yourself.

- Put the Rockband disk in.

- With the Wiimote (which is now FORCED as player one, and will stay that way) select the Rockband icon (or if you need to update, there will be a Wii update icon... the update is included on the disk).

3. The Microphone

- Yes, you need a Wiimote along side the microphone.

- Yes, it will always be player one.

- HMX does not mention this in the instructions, because you REQUIRE the Wiimote to select the game from the Wii Menu in the first place!

- If you want to do solo career with the Mic, select the appropriate menu items with the Wiimote, and along you go.

4. The Drums

- They will come on automatically, if they aren't broken, as Player 2.

- If you want to do solo career with the drums, put the Wiimote down, and use the drums THEMSELVES to select the menu items.

5. The Guitar

- If the receiver is working correctly, it should be flashing a BLUE light (NOT red)

- If your guitar is switched ON, there are three things you need to do:
A. Make sure the Guitar and the Receiver have a clear line of sight to each other.
B. Hit the button on the receiver. It's the only button there.
C. Hit the SMALL WHITE BUTTON on the guitar, that is in the place where the Amp Cord would normally go.

- If you do it in that order, the receiver should stop flashing, and on the guitar, there are the 4 "player number" lights, and one of them should be lit up, as well as the Rock Band logo button. (This is exactly the same as if you were to sync a new Wiimote with your console)

- If you want to do solo career with the guitar, select the menu items with the guitar buttons, and NOT the Wiimote or Drums.

It's really not as hard as you guys think. Just some basic common sense. Also note that if you have any interference around the wireless receiver for the guitar, that it will not work properly. It MUST have a clear line of sight with the guitar to sync it.

(Oh and "WiiWannabe"... just a nit-pick... you don't really INSTALL a game onto the Wii...)

VictorySwig, thanks for the step by step instructions on a functioning system out of the box. You should post that in another post for future Wii purchasers this week, so when they come to this site for help, they can read how yours setup and what might be wrong with theirs. Since I was possibly the first purchaser this morning to post a problem with their Wii system, there was nothing here for me to read.

The squeaky wheel gets the oil.

The book says to come here for help.

I am not the only frustrated purchaser. Some, their drums do not work. For others, their guitars do not work. Others, their disks are scratched.

Problems occur.

Obviously, most people that will be posting are the ones that bought the lemons today.

There will be those 100,000 Wii buyers today that do not even know these forums exist. Because their system works perfectly. So, you will not see 100,000 posts from happy purchasers.

But, I am one of those that purchased the lemon. And I cannot make lemonade out of this lemon. And I have tried.

In America we have the freedom to complain. I also have the freedom to compliment.

Give me a good product, that should have the bugs worked out of it since it was released on Xbox, I do not own, and PS 3, I do not own, you would think this entertainment item would function out of the box.

I get to sit around and wait for my replacement dongle. I could have taken it back to the store, but the odds of the store having the item in stock and the odds of having an item from a different lot, the one without the bad dongles is not worth the drive back.

Plus, I could get an exchange with a bad drum pedal, or a bad guitar, oh wait, I suppose you have not read about others having those problems.

BayouBengal032
06-22-2008, 06:10 PM
well then now that youve contacted EA and are waiting for your new dongle you dont have to sit there and stare at your new purchase you can either:

A. play the drums. they are a freaking blast.
B. try to sing and get to know the songs in the game (if you havent already)
C. try playing the drums and singing (if you already know the songs) thats a real challenge right there.

that should keep you busy for a week or two until your new dongle get there.

Here is my setup.

Prep [First time setting up]
1.) Set up the drums following the directions given on the manual
2.) Put the head on the guitar [the head is originally separated]
3.) Put 3 AA batteries into the back of the guitar [you need to take out the cover with a screwdriver]
4.) Make sure the little switch on the back of the guitar is to 'On'
5.) Plug in the USB Hub into one of the Wii's USB slots
6.) Plug in the Mic, and Drums
7.) Plug in the Wireless Guitar Dongle
8.) Turn on Wii, and insert the Rock Band Game Disk. Turn on one Wiimote[very important] and click the Rock Band Block. It will perform a System Update. Now you can start the game.
9.) Hit the blue glowing button on the Guitar, and then hit the small white button located next to it.
10.) Have Fun playing :D

Side Note[s]:
1.) MICROPHONE IS ALWAYS PLAYER 1
2.) For me at least, you never need to press any button[s] on the USB Dongle and the Guitar after you did it once.

hey wiiwannabe i also just wanted to apologize if i came off kinda harsh in one of my earlier posts. im used to browsing these forums and reading posts from incompetant and illiterate people (which you were neither).

you are new to the game and have something wrong and you were just trying to see what's up.

unfortunately for Harmonix (who makes amazing games) EA's peripherals are not the best. i am on my second kick pedal and 4th guitar. so it sounds like they had a bad batch of dongles. hopefully EA will straighten everything out for you. ive never dealt with a wireless dongle cuz i have an xbox 360 and i gotta plug everything in. plus there usb hub they sent me didnt work at all but i just bought a new one for 10 bucks.

so, sorry for your woes and hope everything gets sorted out.

but im sure youll have a blast with your new purchase once everything is sorted! :D

What really really really sucks is that apparently in the Wii version, we don't get internet multiplayer. :( I was really looking forward to that. And stat tracking on the site.

And they can't give the excuse of "oh we can't do that with the Wii" because Activision/RedOctane seemed to have figured it out correctly...

they never said they couldnt do THAT. they just couldnt do character creation cuz the wii cant render all that data or the full BWT cuz that is just way too much info or offer DLC cuz the wii has no hard drive.

so they just made a ps2 port because it appears that is what is financially best for them. since they are a business trying to make money.

*DEEP SIGH* I too am pretty confident with getting stuff to work.. MY DRUMS ARE DOA ! WAAAAAAAAAh.. ok sorry for the yelling. But, it appears my drums are bad. I have tried different USB hub ports for all the devices. All the other devices, not drums, work fine in any port. The drums do not work at all.
I am so upset because that much money to go into a joint-birthday gift for my kids... I don't even want to continue...

anyway. good post on a known working setup.

There should be an in-game instruction telling you that you need to use the controller to navigate, but this only appears when the mic is being used alone.
I'm pretty sure it also tells you this in the tutorial. Which may or may not be accessible without using the controller.
So, not entirely effective.

To play devil's advocate, it's not rocket science. I would've figured that if there's no buttons on the mic (and that any USB mic would work just the same), I'd probably need something with buttons- Hence, the controller.

The guitar was a problem for me as well. Plugging in the dongle before the game, pressing the button on the dongle, pressing the button on the guitar to synch it.. I forget the order, but after the first time, don't worry. It's much simple. I leave the dongles plugged in, and I only have to switch the guitar on while the game is on. It synchs automatically for me.

Everything is a hassle the first time, but no problem after the innitial set up. I keep forgetting how hard it was to put the guitar together the first day. (had to scour the house for a screw driver. >_>)

Heh, well I happen to be a computer repair tech, so I have a few kits of small screwdrivers around the house. :p

And no problem on posting a working set up. I figured some people might forget a step or two... It happens to the best of us! (I was actually just playing with my guitar, and I had forgotten to turn the switch on >.< ... that's going to be a hassle! :() If you get it working by following my directions, then I'm super glad! :)

And to all the people with messed up equipment -> That sucks :( Well, just blame EA because as a producer, they are the ones who are supposed to make sure the product that goes out functions correctly! Send them a nasty-gram or two... they are pretty used to getting them...

Yeah I agree, if there are faulty instruments blame the makers of them. But don't put the blame on the game itself, since for me the game is extremely fun.

And yes, I have played Rock Band on the 360 so I know that the Wii Version is missing.

What? You talk like they're on the verge of bankruptcy or something. I don't know if maybe you haven't been hearing the reports, but these companies are rolling in it.

Which is why, in all fairness, anyone who knows Rock Band's feature set on the 360 and ps3 will likely agree that the Wii version makes Harmonix look somewhat.. cheap.

I was playing Guitar Hero 3 online on my Wii over half a year ago. I had an online profile and everything. And incidentally, their website's online features kicks the pants out of this one.

You can justify it all you like, but given all the money they've been making, the Wii version of Rock Band is nothing short of a disgrace. They should be ashamed.

Maybe it's just me, but i'd rather have a basic online site that shows me previews of songs (in a cool way may I add) that are coming out soon, interviews and general news, videos that pertain to the game, and have a kickass community forum with all of the above and more...than have an online site that can track my fake groupies and do other cheesy unneccesary (albeit in SOME cases interesting) things, along with an (IMO) crappy forum.

When I said online features, I was referring to the information the game sends to the website when you play. Recent performances, scores, money, favourite guitar and venue, number of performances... etc. It's nice to see that when you play. I used to get in the habit of refreshing my rocker page during each marathon gaming session, just to see my no. of groupies go up.

This website, however, doesn't even really care when you play. When it went live we all thought it was like stage 1 of many. Heh, yeah right. That was oh so many months ago.

I'm happy you get your interviews though. Nobody has mastered the art of saying alot without really saying anything atall like the average Harmonix employee.

Oh yeah, and emphasis on the forum parts.

Yeah I noticed how you completely disregarded commenting on my main point, you know, the whole playing Guitar Hero 3 online on the Wii over half a year ago thing.

No character customisation, no store, no online play, no dlc. Yeah mate, you best keep this conversation a comparison about the websites as much as you can :p

First off i didnt comment on the gh3 on the wii having all those things a year and a half ago because its 100% true that they had it and even NOW Rock band doesnt have it. If you think im stupid enough to disagree with you, your completely out of your mind :D Anybody who disagree's there isnt the sharpest tool in the shed.

Second, my post was a joke anyways, so dont take it so seriously. I've only used the guitar hero 3 online site maybe once or twice before, at the most. I'm quite bitter that the only things Rock Band has are your characters, what instrument they play, and the score. Along with your band and the profiles for it along with who is in it and the score of it.

In terms of some of the useless info that you don't 'need' to play the game, Guitar Hero 3 wins. Would i like some of that info for Rock Band, you bet your ass i would. Some of its cool s**t. Like, as you mentioned, the ability to see favorite venue or guitar, or number of performances.

But do i honestly feel like that makes Guitar Hero 3 have a better site?

No.

Rock Band has the necessary information, even if they dont set the actual site up to be extremely 'fun' with all the extra content on the website...but maybe that is because they rely on their GAME being a lot of fun...continually. And they kind of rely on the fact that Downloadable Content will be the only 'extra' you need while still providing individual profiles and scores, band profiles and scores, and the like.

Did i expect Rock Band to update its site ever? Maybe i did at one point...but i guess i've honestly never even thought anything near "Hey, i wish Rock Band had some more cool features like the Guitar Hero site has! Maybe they'll update the site with more soon!"

And by the way, interviews were what we call an "example" of some of the basic things that are on this site. Did i ever say that they made the site better? No, i said that they were one of the basic things provided by Harmonix that are cool to have. Unlike you who tried to state that these extra "features" on the GH3 website beat the features on here.

All in all, i'd take Rock Band's site, forums, and game over Guitar Hero 3 anyday. But, as also stated MANY times in the original post of mine, that obviously you didnt see because you acted as if my oppinion on this was law and made the Rock Band site better, IMO (that means in my oppinon), the forums alone make this site worthwile and when you mix the forums with the actual game...i'm having a blast without a groupie, real or fake, in sight.

Edit:
On the topic of "saying a lot without really saying anything" that you say Harmonix has gotten really good at...I'd like to throw in that they actually say very VERY little but when they DO say it, it's generally pretty big s**t.

Need an example?

Judas Priest, The Cars, Doolittle, Promotions of all shapes and sizes recently, when they (and if they) ever release The Who, etc etc.

Do i like how they say little to nothing and when they do its GENERALLY something big? Not neccessarily (god i cant spell today, sp?), but its better than, "Most DLC in any game!" *Fast forward a couple years* "Oh hey..we're uh...releasing Coldplay!" ;)

Just kidding on that part, dont want to start a full blown argument lol.

Actually, the instructions do not even mention the microphone.

my disc has nothing on it (i did scan on computer) it said it was a blank disc and we called tech at ea did not have rock band for wii on tech support so i am buying a new disc tomorrow at store. i saw them at store separate in a box of a normal wii game instead of wating three weeks.

90% of the posts in this topic, have given me a good laugh at almost 3 in the morning.

First of all, being a Wii only gamer that bought the game the day it came out let me say a couple things to the people here. If you have to be TOLD THAT YOU NEED TO USE THE WII MOTE TO CONTROL WITH A MICROPHONE, learn to think for yourselfs. The only annoying thing about RockBand, is the lack of online and how no instrument can control the wii menu. Secondly, the on Switch on the back of the guitar is by far your friend. Make sure it's all the way over because guess what, it'll tick 3 times. For those with drum issues, it may be legit but to anyone having issues with their USB hub at all, did you stop to think it could actually be the USB port on your Wii and have nothing to do with the game?

I know some of you posted long winded venting sessions to make you feel better, hell they made me feel better laughing at the stupidity of people. I work in retail, so I know stupid but some of this puts it to shame..

FOR PEOPLE SAYING "BLUE LIGHT BLUE LIGHT" The red Light that is being talked about, is on the USB hub it's self.. not the Dondle.. **** people. Use your brain.
