So I went to gamestop to pre-order rock band today (so gald I got that off my chest) and I see that there is a guitar hero III demo there. I try and play rock you like a hurricane on expert, and i fail horribly. It was hard to hammer on or something. This is just another reason why guitar hero is going down.

I played the demo at Gamestop as well. I liked it however the singer in GH3 looks like a monkey

LMAO. But before its locked or moved, I thought the hammer on's were easier. ALOT easier. Especially with that new guitar. Its like it does the work for you or something.

uh, I'm guessing that you probably don't play on expert normally then, because they've made hammer ons and pulloffs much MUCH easier.
Try again.
the demo is a lot of fun, and aside from some of the character designs and load time messages the game is great. (and well.. some questionable design flaws but thats beside the point)

Well the HO/POs were lightened up quite a bit and the timing has been given some leahway.

now that you mention it, the timing kinda seemed weird, but the sound was low, and i'm not good with no sound

Well if you noticed it it wasn't just you. The timing is off and it shows.

And that's exactly why I don't like it as much as the previous ones. I know you're not "playing" the guitar when playing the guy, but in GHII it definitely felt like I was "playing" guitar rather than just pushing buttons. Half the time I think GHIII is missing some notes or something.

Yeah the notecharts are really screwy. REALLY screwy. Like "We didn't even try to read the music" screwy. Prime example? Through the Fire and Flames.

Through The Fire and The Flames looked pretty good on accuracy. Raining Blood on the other hand is laughable.

Look at the video of Raining Blood. The solo in real life is a bunch of whammying, nothing like the note chart at all.

Like they just sound off. Green is lower and orange is higher right? Well if you watch Through the Fire and Flames it just just looks like they tried to pull out a bunch of difficult techniques and chords.
Some of the notecharts just looked tailored to be hard. Not actual translation of reading a real sheet at all.

The timing isn't off... the window to hit the notes was decreased and the window for hammer ons was increased.

Yeah I went to gamestop today to preorder RB as well and I was pleasently suprised to see that they had the GH3 demo. The Guitar is actually pretty sexy and plays really nice. The songs were pretty easy. I think I got 5 stars on all of them and probably would of FCed Hit Me With Your Best Shot if it wasn't for the guitar being strapless. Anyways the guy at the counter asked me if I was going to pre-order GH3 and I told him no, and I was going to just get rock band. Preoder of rock band soon ensued.

It's like this in Guitar Hero 80s edition aswell, on expert they make it harder than it feels like it should be and it takes you out of the experience since it reminds you you're playing a game.

What are you talking about? 80s was the easiest out of all of them lol
80s, GHI, GHII, GHIII They are gettting progressively harder as they should....80s being the exception of course.

Orange.. button? I know not of this "o-range bu-ton" of which you speak.

Looking at the videos, though, it's pretty clear they have extraneous notes. You're playing the piano in TFAF's intro, for crying out loud. It's more gamey than simulatey. Then again, with only five frets, I guess simulation's out of the question anyway...

The intro is actually played with an acoustic and a keyboard. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Not to mention the song is probably easier on real guitar than it is in GH3.
So is Number of the Beast.

GH3 is so much easier than GH2 I have played all the songs on the demo several times on expert and can pretty much 5 star them all very easily. I was expecting atleast one challenge song in the demo but I guess not. I can def. tell they are giving a lot of leeway on the notes now. I mean don't get me wrong its fun but it wasn't as challenging as GH2 to me. But oh well I preordered both games anyway I really see myself playing that wireless les paul on rock band.

I played the demo at home on my Xplorer, and I just wasn't feeling it. I agree that it seemed more videogame than rock simulator. I will have to try the demo with the Les Paul.

I never said it was harder than the other ones, though it is harder than guitar hero 1. What I said was that the note charts were harder relative to what you were doing in the song. So chord chages and solos had you going from the bottom buttons to the top ones constantly, destroying the illusion of moving up and down in pitch. If that trend continues they'll have to add another button. I would just play hard, but not playing all the notes is worse :).

No way. GH 80s is the hardest GH, although I can't place GH3 because I have yet to play even a demo. Hopefully they do like they said they were going to, and put the difficulty somewhere in between GH1 and GH2, because GH2 and GH 80s were pretty ridiculous. I absolutely can't pass anything above set #6 on expert in GH2 (to be fair, I dislike all the songs above that set except for Free Bird, so it doesn't matter), and I forget how hard I got in GH 80s before I broke down and cried because of the ridiculosity.
At any rate, even if you think GH2 is the hardest, GH1 still isn't as hard as GH 80s. Play With Me alone is waaaay harder than anything GH1 has to offer.

Hrm.
Well, I picked up GH1 after I had started playing Expert on GH2. I got through Tier 6 and finished a couple of songs on Tier 7 in GH2, and got stuck on Psychobilly Freakout.
I popped GH1 in and played through it to the last set of songs, failing Cowboys From Hell and failing Bark At The Moon at 97% (the old HO/PO system killed me).
I kept playing that for a little while, then went back to GH2 and cleared Psychobilly Freakout, and then GH80s came out. I picked that up and played up to Ballroom Blitz, which I failed out due to Star Power mismanagement. I shut the game off because I think the Krokus cover is absolutely horrid, and then next day I picked it up and cleared through to Play With Me.
I went back and eventually polished off Tier 8 on GH2 (Misirlou took about a bazillion tries because my timing for alt-strumming is horrible, Beast and the Harlot took two tries, Institutionalized three tries, and Hanger 18 two tries, before finishing Freebird on the first try -- although I keep failing out every time I play it now).
I went and finished off GH1, but the only song I have been unable to beat is Play With Me.
Personally, I'd go GH1 -> GH80s -> GH2. GH3, I'm on the fence with. Some of the charts seem artificially hard, but some of them seem quite easy. I'd probably put it around GH2 based on what I've seen so far.
YMMV. :)

I waited a day to get on the computer and my thread is 4 pages long already! To summarize everything i read, i want to say yeah the notes did seem off on the songs. And, i played guitar hero II as soon as i got home to see if it was me, and i owned expert.

There is definitely some sort of screwy-ness going on with the Xplorer playing GH3. Even though you can actually Calibrate the whammy bar in-game, it stills doesn't register correctly (and my whammy is def. not broken)
I don't know if it's window adjustments, but things just don't feel right hitting the notes. In another thread, people were talking about Down Strumming being a problem with the Xplorer. I can't play like I usually do because of it, I'm actually playing more of a slap bass style just so it won't double strum.
As far as H/O's and P/O's, maybe the window is too open and I'm going to fast, but I can't seem to get the timing right just yet. I'll have to just get used to it. But you can tell you're not playing like you were before.
EDIT: I actually asked the guy at my Gamestop if they were getting the demo soon. He actually said, "no, not yet. They've actually been killing some 360's, so our manager hasn't decided to bring it in yet"
Great news eh?

The calibrate whammy worked great for my X-Plorer.
At first the whammy took a few seconds to respond, but after I calibrated it, it works great.

I've noticed on alot of the GH3 videos all the whammying (sp?) seems to be a bit off. It's like everyone is late on it.

When I calibrate it shows up working fine. But actually during the song, I STILL have to push down at least halfway until it registers.
