That blew me away that they even managed to progress that far. I know Activision has been heavily pursuing the the top 5 most requested bands and giving them their own games (Aerosmith and Metallica so far), but most assumed the Beatles wouldnt happen at least until an established digital distribution company (like iTunes) got rights. To jump straight past those guys into the video game market is gigantic.

Possibly the best fake guitar news I've read in the past year (since the release of rock band..lol)

Seems like one step closer (even with me not being a Beatles fan nor being terribly excited about their possible inclusion into the game)... What I didn't like from that article was how it mentioned the possibility of dedicating an exclusive game to the band, or something along those lines...

Can anyone say, "GH: Beatles?" Stupid Activision and Neversoft, seriously...

I fully expect Activision is 100% attempting to create a beatles-only guitar hero. that is their MO lately. While debateable, it is generally considered that the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, and a few others are the 'holy grail' bands for guitar games. Activision has pretty much flat out decreed that if they get rights to any of these bands, they are giving them dedicated games.

Personally - I think that sort of sucks. I would much rather have an album download like rock band added to a game with a wide variety of music - rather than having to constantly switch game discs to get to different bands.

This new aerosmith edition might as well have been a $30 dlc pack that you just run through GH:3. New songs, some new venues, and a few new character models and outfits.... all running on the exact same engine. packing that up and calling it a $60 game is ridiculous.

Anyways - the scariest thing about the whole beatles deal is the idea that either company gets some exclusive arrangement (similiar to the aerosmith one). I was worried as soon as that happened that mtv and activision would go on the offensive and try to start exclusively signing bands left and right leading to a highly polarized genre.

While I dont want the games to have extremely similiar song lists (there is enough good music out there that this shouldnt be the case anyways) - I also don't want to have to own some ****ty aerosmith guitar hero game if I feel like playing an aerosmith song.

One of the best moves of this years game releases is that current rockband dlc will be forwards compatible with rock band 2. If the GH guys found a way to insert GH1-3 discs into a future GH, which then unclocked those songs in that game (or ran them off the HD, or whatever) - that would be amazing.... I could finally stop disc juggling every time I want to go from Texas Flood to Paint it Black to Misirlou.

To try to cut down on repeat threads I've closed this one. There's a pre existing thread about the same topic floating around on the forums, so you should feel free to post there. You'll be able to identify it by it's less than savory thread title. Thanks a lot!
