Just wondering if any news source has mentioned they will be announcing new songs soon. Anyone heard anything?

We're getting close to the release of GH3 and you think that EA/MTV/HMX would want to start building hype so parents will start thinking about getting RB over GH3 (If you think that it won't be a battle this thanksgiving/christmas you are only fooling yourself)

Well, I wouldn't call it a "battle" per say, seeing as GH3 is coming out like a month before Rock Band, so it'll get a head start on sales, but that won't do it much good cause I think Rock Band is gonna swamp em.

As for songs, they'll probably confirm Next to You by the Police sooner or later, but other than that I'm not really expecting any new song releases.

Well there will obviously be song announcements since the game is less than a month away now... but nobody knows when. Hopefully soon... Some big names dropped right before GH3 might change peoples minds

Release date means nothing during the holiday season. Parents won't go "Hmm, this rock band game has way better song selection... but GH3 DID come out a month before it... so I guess I'll get GH3".

Agreed. We are getting within a month of release, the last few songs will be announced soon enough, within the next two weeks is my prediction. Next week, upon the arrival of GH III I would not be surprised to see some song info of some sort.

You are contridicting yourself between this posts and your original post.

You created this thread in hopes that there would be Song Announcements, due to the soon to be released GH3. You were implying in your first post, that Harmonix should release further song information, so parents will say "Hmm, this rock band game has WAY better song selection... but GH3 did come out a month before it... Oh well, I guess we'll get Rock Band, since it has better songs."

So Make up your mind yea? :)

If release date means nothing, why create this thread in hopes that there will be song announcements in relation to the release of Guitar Hero III?

Lastly, of course I can understand the desire to hear about more songs for Rock Band! :D

No I'm pretty consistent between the two posts. HMX/EA/MTV want parents to start comparing the two games based on content. My post that you quoted was in reply to someone's post on release date.

I thought IGN said to watch out for a "slew of announcements" coming up in the next couple of weeks. I hope that means the full song list soon. Harmonix released the full song lists for both GH1&2 a month before they came out, so i'd expect the same for rock band

Ahhh, you are absolutely right. I just re-read over it a few times. My apologies! :)

As stated before, either way, I agree we need to get more of the song selection flushed out.

I didn't pick up GH2 until months after so I don't know the answer to this...

Do they normally announce all the bonus songs or leave it for the user to discover? Because if they announce them, why don't they just announce 2 or 3 songs (bonus and main) every monday for the last month? Doesn't that seem like a good way to keep the hype up?

I think most of the bonus songs got leaked for GH II, I don't think any or most of them were announced. The main song list did get announced in full though.

That was a year ago though so my memory of it might not be perfect though. I just remember someone posted images of all the album art for the bonus songs. I don't think we found out about all of them until the release of the game though.

Yea the bonus songs for GHII got leaked all at once pretty much. Lets hope the main setlist for Rock Band is completely revealed soon though, hopefully they still have some killer songs to announce.

I agree, they should start announcing more stuff. Build some hype, ya know. And on a related note, I thought they were supposed to be doing a big advertising campaign, whens that gonna happen? I figured a while before GH3 released would be a good idea but I guess that's not their approach.

It was a Wal-Mart full game display and he took pics of all the songs in the Store.

I know that a lot of people are upset about how we're only a month away and we haven't heard EVERYTHING about the game...

...but honestly, I don't know, I think it's kind of cool that we're a full month out and there's still PLENTY of mystery left in the game.

As many have said, they are TIRED of hearing Suffragette City because it was the first song announced. Would you want that same feeling over the other songs too?

I don't know about you, But I couldn't think of a bigger advertising campaign than creating a tour of my game and hitting all the major cities. I'm sure this is costing them alot. Advertising doesn't always mean commercials.

TV? Radio?

The tour is nice but really, it's not generating anywhere close to the buzz that a good ol' fashioned tv commercial would.

Besides, no tour dates in canada == big fail for recognition up here.

I'm sure there will be a TV ad somewhere. Guitar Hero 3 comes out in one week and I haven't seen a television ad for it. Even games that were receiving tons of hype like Bioshock and Halo waited until the last two weeks or so up until release until shoving the product down people's throats.

Indeed no tour dates, but Rockband is listed to making an appearance at nDEX in Toronto next week!

hah, yea that's a good point >.> kinda forgot about that, since it's not coming near Cincinnati. But still, I think a big part of their advertising budget should be placed in TV ads. You know, so moms and relatives can see it and get it for their kids on Christmas, etc

I wonder if they'll announce when the disc goes gold. How long does it take to manufacture a few dozen thousand discs?

Wow you're really banking on parents to make or break the rock opera aren't you? That's mighty analytical of you.

Well my decision on which to buy for my kids rests completely on content of the games. Whichever keeps them interested long enough to justify their individual price tags gets my money.

I think the price point of ROCK BAND leaves a lot in the parents' court, especially for kids 15 or under.

I would think because of the price point a safer banking would be 16+

Does that ever work though? I mean, one game dropping huge info right before it's rival game is released?

In this case I'd doubt that. I mean there's still the $70 extra.

That's why I think it's smartest for Harmonix to go for the "and" strategy like the Wii used. Instead of saying "Get RB instead of GH" say "Get GH and..."

It's a pretty pricey and risky thing to do but I am pretty sure they're not banking on the mom and pop walk into a game store demographic.

Only a fool wouldn't bank on that demographic.

I don't have MTV but I thought that there might have been some commercials by now. There hasn't been anything on MTV?
I really like the tour idea and I hope that it's generating a lot of buzz for RB. I just wish it came to Canada.

My guess is that RB will be popular by word of mouth and as a party game. Granted to buy RB and a system will set you back a bit it's basically the same idea. You need some friends over to play BWT, they love the game, one of them buys it, he invites friends over, rinse and repeat.

I still think as soon as people start hearing about RB (the general public) they're going to go nuts over it. I'm sure Harmonix is hoping for the same thing.

The last two or three game mags I've gotten (Game Informer and PSM) have had full two-page ad spreads. At least one of them was within the first 20 pages.

I think the biggest way Rock Band will catch on is by word-of-mouth. After all, it worked for the original Guitar Hero.
