View Full Version : Idea for DLC that could take into account fan suggestions.

Harmonix could have 2 categories for single song DLC. One, which would take up most of it would be something they would include. This would be obvious stuff. Each release however, they could release one song suggested by fans.

Remember the song suggestion box the main site used to have? Well, we could have that again. People would suggest a bunch of songs each week, and a poll would go up on the main site where people would vote for which song would get in. Each person could suggest one song

Due to the amount of people voting, this would have to be organized in a ladder system. There would be a bunch of quadrants depending on the votes, and each day, each would be voted on. I understand not many people would do this, but once songs got the the actual final bracket, people would vote.

Each day a band would move up. If this happened 7 times it might work. If a band has loads of songs in, couldn't be in for copyright reasons, or would be included in soon, you couldn't vote for that band. The results would go in 2 days before the DLC was released, so HMX could check out what song one, and see if it fits. Than, they'd get a list of songs people wanted, and would slowly chart them each week. They'd probably only be 2-4 weeks behind, since it takes a bit to chart songs. I

f a band keeps getting voted, but never wins, HMX may consider adding it. if one person kept suggesting their favorite band, it'd be nice for them to get a treat, and maybe people will like it.

Here's my suggestion. The system of which songs got to the top is a bit iffy, but it's the best I came up with. The other ideas are good though.

I don't know exactly what the best way of running those kinds of logistics would be, but it sounds great to me, and it will ensure that not only getting the big names out there that will sell consoles and games, but all the random stuff that the forumers want will have a really good chance of making it also.

It'll be interesting to see what/if HMX does along these lines.

It's a pretty cool idea, have people vote for their favorite songs to be added in game. It'd be a good way to spread out content too, even if they plan on releasing all the songs/artists in a poll it would show what order they'll release it in. Though I would personally dload everything at the same time if given the option :D

Probably the easiest for Harmonix, would be to list 5-10 songs that they could get a license for and list those. Then from those 5-10 we vote on what get's added to Rock Band.

This way Harmonix can still regulate which songs are included for revenue risks, the fans get to have a say that directly impacts which songs are included and lastly, Harmonix would not "waste" time creating/adding songs that the fans may or may not download.

Good ideas. It would be awesome if people had the option to vote for the songs they wanted to become DLC

What would be incredibly cool is like, once a week when you log into XBL/PSH, the game would retrieve this week's poll, and you'd be able to vote right when you start the game, so no one would "forget"... possibly including a 30-sec clip of the song for each poll option. It'd be really easy to do, it'd download really fast, and they'd get a HUGE amount of votes without much effort.

You changed your pic!

And yeah, I like the idea, but I wonder how hard it would be to put a voting channel in the game.

haha yes, yes I did. It's a shot our photog wanted to do from my band's photoshoot, and I just now got around to editing it (cause she was slacking on the delivery of finished goods), and thought it'd be a good one to put up there.

I'm in for polling songs . If they {HMX} would go for it.Or full albums I'm good with both.I think thats a better way for HMX to do it any ways, we are the ones paying so why not give us what we ask for .It only makes sence to keep your LOYAL FANS HAPPY!!

Can't really see the harm in asking the fans what they want. They need to make sure they state plainly and repeatedly that they can't necessarily get access to what everyone wants, but it would at least give them regular feedback on the pulse of the community.

That's a great idea. I hope HMX incorporates something like this.

I'm glad you guys like this idea. If they did this, many of our active members would get bands in that they like that aren't necissarily popular.

Here's another addition. I'll update the main topic.

If a band keeps getting voted, but never wins, HMX may consider adding it. if one person kept suggesting their favorite band, it'd be nice for them to get a treat, and maybe people will like it.

And you can rest assured that if said band actually has merit, there's at least a few people at HMX who like that band as well.

Exactly! HMX has a great knack for not just knowing what great music is, but also what will be liked, what will be fun, and they seem to have their fingers on the pulse of it all pretty accurately.

I think that a weekly voting system (in-game only, no web voting as to cut down on cheating) ran by HMX would be an amazing system. GrayInvisible's really hit the nail on the head with this one, this is what Rock Band's DLC should be about.

I think the biggest merit this suggestion has is for local bands. HMX has their ear to the ground in Boston (and have picked out some killer bands), but there are a lot of other areas where they're not experts. HMX seems to be good at judging the quality of indie acts, so suggestions from Chicago-land, LA, etc would help to expand the indie song-base.

When we record our first CD, you bet I'd put it in RB if I could! There are a ton of good local bands here in Sac, who I'd love to be able to play in RB.

My mind keeps going back to Alex's comments about Rock Band being "the iTunes of music video games"... That right there is a seriously auspicious goal. I'm down. :D

I forgot about local bands. This would be great for that too.
