...and my suspicions were confirmed. Guitar Hero has become bland, formulaic, and boring. And after Rock Band, there'll be no going back.

Viva La Rock Band.

Agreed. Mods, move to general please?

However, staying on-topic, I kind of agree. Yeah, I'm going to play GH3 because it'll be fun. But... it'll be when I've exhausted everything new in RB that I'll seriously play GH3. Or, if I get it next week, it'll just tide me over until RB.

GH is GH, but the only thought that stuck out in my mind was when I was playing the GH3 demo and the gaping maw of that horse-mouthed creepy-ass lead singer crept into my perif.

That's some scary isht.

I planned on buying GH3 when it hit shelves but I dont know anymore i played the demo at gamestop and well it just seems like the same thing as the previous ones just different songs so i am sticking with just rock band.

Hard to believe the incredible amount of disrespect GH3 gets here, but I guess that comes with being on board with the rival game. I for one enjoyed the demo, and despite a couple nicks in the new gameplay I think it will be just as good as GH2. Good songs, same system (minus the messy HOPOs) so it should give the same results. I still think it would've been a better game under Harmonix's wing but alas I'd rather have Rock Band.

Nonetheless I'll be picking up GH3 on Sunday and Rock Band next month, so the two can live harmoniously, jamming together.

I'm sorry for putting this in the wrong forum, everybody. This is one of my favorite forums, especially since nobody here is a D-bag, and now I'm the D-bag. I just got a little antsy.

Buds?

You're not a d-bag. A lot of people here are wannabe mods. Seriously people, if a mod is reading your post telling them how to do their job, that means they're well aware that the thread needs to be moved in the first place.

Stop making new posters feel like sh*t, this is the 2nd time it's happened.

But yea, I'm not very impressed with GH3 either. I'll get it just cuz there will be times when I'll wanna shred it out to some of those songs. But my time will be committed to Rock Band for sure.

Yuppers, it'll hold me over a few weeks, and besides that I need the guitar for the big release day for my band...............You can call us the Partridge Family.

Thanks for understanding, pally. You're one of the good'ns.

And yeah, I gotta admit, some of those GH3 tracks are pretty choice. Which means I'll inevitably pick it up someday. When I tire of RB, if at all possible.

The part in tenacious d where they sing really girly. That part of the note chart makes no sense. I hate it.

I absolutely love the song. I'm talking about the notes. They are placed so badly. It doesnt go with the song.

Whoever was in charge for the notecharts in GH should be kicked in the neck with spiked leaden boots (Exempt: People who did Lay Down, Even Flow)

Whoever charted The Metal and whoever was the art director should have the above punishment three times.

I'll still buy it despite the gaping flaws, because papa needs him a new dosage of Guitar Heroin.

I enjoyed the demo and I think the note charts are challenging and fun... flame me

SmokaCola

Not really challenging anymore considering the Ho/Pos feeling like one of the rip off games (Frets on Fire, Guitar Zero). Then again, they did add a lot more rediculous notes like the GYO in the DF song. So I guess it all kind of evens out. Not a bad game though, the battle mode is really fun and funny to play.

Viva La Rock Band.

That's ridiculous. Guitar Hero is the SAME EXACT GAME it always was. The note timing is a little weird, I feel like the window was tightened up some, and HOPOs got a little harder (but they were arguably too easy in GH2, so they're still pretty hittable), but apart from those minor differences, it's the same game it has been for the last three iterations. New songs, a new mode, new graphics, same core gameplay. I mean, God forbid that they continue the franchise using the gameplay people have come to expect from it.

Quoted for epic truth. What's sad, imnsho, is that GH3 gets a ton of flak here, and Rock Band gets a ton of flak on the GH3 forums. Too many fanboys all around. Both games are going to rock, in their own different styles, but fairly similarly nonetheless. Any GH fan (and most of us here are GH fans) should want GH3 (more of our favorite guitar game can be bad... how?), and any GH fan should also want Rock Band, if only for more songs to rock on (believe it or not, the fact that I can play guitar solo when I feel like it is a big deal for me in this game, although I'm looking forward to drums a lot too). I realize that many won't be able to afford both games, but that's no excuse for bashing the other game mercilessly, when you've already proven to be a fan of what it's offering.

Harmoniously jamming together for the win. Now if only someone could answer the question of the Strat's compatibility with GH1/2/80s on the PS3 definitively (preferably with a yes, heh), I'd be in heaven.

The Guitar Hero 3 demo was pretty cool. If nothing else it is at least cheaper to buy a whole game with 40 songs included, than pay the rip off download song prices that GH2 is charging.

I liked the battle mode, it was most amusing, although it's a little frustrating that you never get to the end of a song (one or the other normally gets killed)

The graphics are nice, it kind of reminds me of the PS2 version in the way the graphics look, really nice.

The notes come a lot faster in expert mode than in GH2. I played a multiplayer game with my mate, he was on medium, and I couldnt beleive it, I thought his frets had stopped they were going soo sloooow, I nearly died laughing.

What they seem to have done on GH3 is introduced the blue notes earlier, but slowed the game down to compensate, a nice idea because you dont have to ramp up speed and notes when you go to hard like in GH2.

Good game overall, should be fun.

I thought the hammer on's were easier. Someone confirm for me that the windows were opened up so you have more time to nail them? Is it harder or easier?

I'm still used to going quick with them, so I'm actually going too fast.

I haven't played the demo yet, but from the videos this guy has been leaking on Youtube I am underwhelmed. Maybe I need to actually play it and spend some good time with it. But yeah, I agree. They killed the singer.

They also killed Clive, but I won't be getting into that one.

I guess I really will be getting (or at least renting, assuming the GHII PS2 controller works.) Rock Band.

You either like it or you dont...everyone feels differently about things. I was gonna get GH3, but now I am not just because I dont see myself enjoying it, and I dont need to spend 100 bucks on something I wont get enjoyment out of.

I don't really see it as being a 'fanboy'. Like someone said in another post, you either like the changes or you don't. In my honest opinion, they made a lot of changes when in many interviews they claimed it was going to be basically the same with a new art design but the feel of Guitar Hero would still be there.

Of course that's near impossible as they had to create an entirely new engine from scratch. Of course there's going to be changes, I don't discredit Neversoft for that. I think they did a fantastic job building something from the ground up and having it ready to go so quickly. I just think they rushed it a bit.

In my opinion, it doesn't feel like Guitar Hero, except I have a plastic guitar in my hand. Everything felt different for me. Some like the changes, or can easily adapt to them. I'm finding the transition a little harder.

I still have Guitar Hero 3 on pre-order. And knowning me, I will still pick it up. Why? Because well I have the money and I wouldn't mind playing a few of the songs on there. If my money was tighter, I would just wait for RB.

I just don't think I'll get the same replay value from this as I did with Guitar Hero 2.

So if that makes me a Harmonix/RB fanboy, so be it.

Excellent post PlasticAss, that's pretty much how I feel about it too. I'm having a real hard time adjusting, and it's almost making me reconsider buying.

The game just doesn't feel right. But who knows, I'm sure I'll be saying the same when I try to get used to the flush buttons on the strat, and learning how to read bars instead of circles.

The internet is an amazing invention.

I also have a PS3. And my Game Crazy doesn't have it. Makes it a tad more difficult don't ya think? :p Yeah, I can look at the videos (which I only looked at a couple because I don't want to ruin it) but not everyone has a 360 lol. Come on, you are a Boston guy like me, we should think things out more rationally lol jk.

EDIT: Although they did just call me and said there is a midnight release on the Saturday so I won't have to get up early on Sunday to go and get it. yay.
