Yknow, where there's weird lag between the music and the notes scrolling. GH2 had the lag offset, but it was hardly ideal. Is there a better lag offset or is the game better tuned for these TVs? I ask because the friend who has the big TV and a giant living room within the perfect distance of all my friends has one of said TVs, and is convinced that it'll be fine, but I'm not so sure. I'm not looking forward to playing BWT on a TV where I have to fight lag. Specially not with the drums, arg.

Spraynwipe, a Harmonix developer, has a blog entry detailing the Rock Band lag calibration tool.

In short, Rock Band is so awesome it may make the world explode.

Rock Band is prepared to calibrate the lag for most TVs, check out this lag calibration blog post from a while back, it's pretty reassuring:

You probably wont have to worry about lag at all!

EDIT: Apples beat me to it :(

Thanks guys. Appreciate the quick response and I feel incredibly relieved. The lag at his place was really bad.

That's awesome, I'm glad they're taking the lag seriously. I played in a GH tournament and the lag was awful. Every time a new person played they would try to reset it. It was not fun :(

I hope to god they make it lag free. I will be willing to bust out the old CRT just to have no lag.

I hope this really works well. Went over to my girlfriends house yesterday and brought gh2 over and on her HD tv it was absolutely impossible to play. Tried configuring lag several times getting mixed results and eventually just got so frustrated I quit.

Happened to me so many times. But you know whats just impossible to play on an HDTV? Harmonix's old game frequency. Play that on an HDTV and tell me there isn't lag.

Yeah, I pulled Amplitude and Frequency out a month or so ago, and found them unplayable on my PS3's backwards compat. The lag was uncompensated. I guess with all the tangled music lisence issues we probably won't see some sort of "Harmonix Greatest Hits" compilation updated to work with this generation of consoles, either... bummer.

I'm glad RB has a more sophisticated timing adjustment system. I'm not sure I EVER got it properly working on Guitar Hero 2, no matter how many times I tried calibrating.

PS3 introduces a bit of lag as well because of the emulation.

Yeah, basically it's horror on top of madness, at that point. What we need are remade versions of the game, similar to the Midway arcade anthologies. I'm a firm believer in retrogaming (see pathetic little sig) and ensuring that classics are kept alive as technology moves forward...

Maybe a re-release which only uses the HMX music, at least? But given how little it sold, probably not in the cards.
