many, many people do the same. I do not. I actually got used to it and now using anything else is outright uncomfortable for me

What exactly is the problem with the strum bar? I use the guitar that comes with the gmae and it doesn't occur to me that I need to use something different.

Well, there's all those people who aren't on the 360 for whom the other guitars don't work with the game out of the box, if at all.
The Strat, assuming yours works, is not a crappy guitar. I can't even stand to listen to videos of playing with the Xplorer or Les Paul because the clicky strum bar drives me insane. The frets are better for sliding, I'm actually starting to appreciate the solo buttons outside of BREs, and it feels more like I'm playing a fake guitar than I'm playing a fake ukelele.

I don't play any better or worse with the Strat, but I just prefer the feel of the Les Paul.

I actually got a repetitive motion injury from the strummer on my Explorer. Since switching to the softer strumming Strat, I haven't had this issue. I've gotten used to the strummer and the buttons, which are MUCH better for sliding. Now if I could just get my damned tilt sensor to work.

well, my LP drops notes right and left, and my x-plorer didn't appreciate being smashed.
so, yeah, I use the Rock Band guitar. :D

I've got 2 strats and a Les paul. The Les Paul sits in a corner to be pulled out on the very rare occasion I pop GHII or GHIII into my 360.
I like the strats. They feel more like a real guitar. The strum bar takes some getting used to but is not inferior (in fact its a greater challenge since it requires more precision than the clicky Les Paul). Personally, I only consider someone to have GS'd a song, when they've done it on the strat. RB sets up note charts to challenge the right hand as well as the left and the Les Paul guitar is designed to only challenge the left hand and make things easier for the right hand.
That's not how real guitar works. Picking is almost as challenging as fret work (of course having 6 strings on a real guitar is usually what adds the challenge).
So I like that the strat makes me work on my right hand coordination as well as my left hand. The Les paul just makes my right hand feel like its pressing a button.

I have two strats, a LP, and an X-plorer. Though the latter two are good controllers, I primarily use the Strat. I simply prefer it.

Actually, I do both. I took the strum bar out of a GH2 Xplorer and put it into the 360 Stratocaster. Best of both worlds.

A lot of people don't like the "mushiness" of the Strat's strummer, and if you have an earlier version (generation 1), then chances are pretty good (about 100%) that your strummer will fail eventually. I personally could not play rapid sections of repeated notes with the stock guitar no matter how hard I tried.
Just for your information, there are options available to improve the feel of the strummer and eliminate the "mushiness". You can do it yourself, or buy a replacement like our "Strum Fix (http://www.bytearts.com/strummer/index.html)" (you can read what others say about it here: http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32096).
A lot of it is what you are used to -- we humans are incredibly adaptable creatures! Some people really like the GH-style "clicker" strummer -- others don't. To each his own... that's the great thing about having a game like Rock Band which gives you so many choices.
[DISCLAIMER: I am the owner of Byte Arts and sell the strum fix].

I use both for different reasons. The strat does feel more like a real guitar, but some of the gimmicks I rarely use (solo frets). It's simple and easy.
I use the Les Paul mostly for online play, if only for the ability to plug in a headset
