View Full Version : Band Name Character Limit/Word Filter?

I have 2 band names in mind, one of which is inspired by the hit 1990s NBC sitcom NewsRadio, and it is very lengthy. I'd like to know if there is a character limit for band names.
Also.....will 'dirty' words be prevented from being used?

i don't know about a character length cap, but the IGN Rock Band band name is the "Ignorant Sluts" so that's something.

Maybe that has something to do about why you can't be online with the BWT... dirty band names!

Since the band name is used in the venue background during performances, its not unreasonable to presume a low character limit, probably similiar to GH2.

My band in GH2 was Peanut Butter Jelly, which just barely fit the limit. So if it is similar, that gives you an idea of what you can do.
(My band was supposed to be Peanut Butter Jelly Time, but it wouldn't fit)

With no BWT online, I doubt there is any online mode that displays your band name on the screen. So I can't see any reason why there would need to be an obscenity filter on it.

Holy crap I never thought of that. I was gonna post and say that it would probably filter it online.

Side note......"Obscenity Filter" isn't a bad idea for a band name......

Aren't there online band leaderboards?

Hah. :) Good one!
I'm curious to how those stages with the band name in lights will work online -- or will they just not be available in Quick Online Play, since you can't take your band online? Alternatively they may display your gamer tag or your character's name, I suppose...

Geographical Location should fit...
my band name is so clever and meta.

are there online bands? obviously online co-op quickplay and versus, but do you name your band in the online coop?

You definitely won't name the quickplay online bands, but online leaderboards are a very good point. I'll bet because of that, there will be some sort of filter. Sluts went through, but anything naughtier would surprise me.
And this issue has absolutely nothing to do with why BWT wasn't online.

I think you're implying there will be an online leaderboard for BWT, but that certainly hasn't been announced.

I'll admit, I'm working off memory here, but I seem to remember an interview where they talked about scores being put online so you could compare Band Vs. Band and then break it down further, singer vs singer and the like. But this was before any of the World Tour announcements, so they never specically said "World Tour Bands will have leaderboards."
Anyway, you are correct. It's been a while since it's been specified one way or the other, so we'll have to see how it goes down.

In any case, simply use the console's built-in abuse reporting feature, and everything should be fine.
And remember what they say:

Maybe Sean/John.....lok can shed some light on this today?
I'm not saying I plan to name a band using expletives, but I do find how this all will play out interesting.

Yeah, that's what I was referring to. Leaderboards for the BWT. It's completely feasible to think that you could quickly compare band to band by number of stars, fans, and highest score on songs/setlists. Just because you can't play BWT with people online doesn't mean they can't do the leaderboard still.
