I just need to get this out there. I'm going to do an impression here:

::cough cough:: I'm sick and cannot come into work today...

Who am I? That's right, I'm FallenAce's entire department! I am the only one of six here today, the other five all chose to call in today.

I have missed exactly 10 days of work in the 10 years I have been working. I can't stand it when people call in more often than me. Do I expect too much of people?

Haha nice!

My team is great, at least I haven't had everyone call in on the same day. Did you have a big company party or something this weekend? Sounds like a lot of hangovers!

How did 5 people call out on the exact same day? Unless they planned something those are some astronomical odds.

Sounds like something that needs to be vented when salary reviews come around.

I've got you beat though. I am the only person in my department and management won't hire anyone else. If I don't show up, there's no one at all in the company who can fill in.

I haven't had a sick day and just one vacation day in 16 months.

Yeah I don't know what's up. There was a hayride on Saturday, but unless people get drunk for two days off hotdogs I doubt that caused it. Also, since I live in Indianapolis, and the Colts don't play until tomorrow, it's not post-football hangovers.

Hmm. I would be enraged if I were you. I can understand people missing a little more time at work than you do. You seem to miss only one day a year and thats outstanding by most people's standards. But for 5 people to miss out on the same day, you should be mad and there has to be something going on.

An old boss of mine used to call sick days arranged next to weekends, holiday, or vacation "skip days". He knew what was up. :D

He also did some amazing statistics research on his department to find that an above average portion of sick days were happening under these conditions. 40% of the work week (Monday and Friday) were accounting for 75% of all sick days registered.

So do I expect too much out of people? Is that the concensus?

I think so. Just because your standards of using a sick day are higher doesn't mean everyone elses are. And maybe they were all truly sick. Give em a break. If its something that doesn't happen that often, then let it slide. However, if it is an issue, then yes it needs addressed.

BTW, that will be me on Nov. 20th.

My standards for sick days were very high....until corporate repealed paying back our unused sick days at the end of the year. SO now there is just more personal days for me to use. I mean I rarely get terribly sick(I'm 22 and the last time was in high school). SO basically I need to start calling in sick every once in a while.
