View Full Version : What's so bad about Solo World Tour?

I'm a little confused. I know people are upset that you need at least two people to do BWT...
But isn't that what Solo World Tour is for? What exactly are the differences?

No, solo world tour doesn't involved the setlists or events of BWT. Pretty much is the guitar hero campaign style, whereas BWT is a new and unique way to play through career mode.

Once again - where is the confirmation for that? The Solo Tour page here shows the World Tour map at Rio de Janeiro, at least, and despite one comment that it's 'more traditional' than BWT doesn't mean that it's the exact same thing as GH. And even if it was, it's still 3 full campaigns AND it's not like you're not going to play it to unlock stuff anyway.
Edit: Also, thanks for changing your avatar - that 311 dude kept giving me that I'm-going-to-date-rape-you look

really? Are you sure. Cause that sucks then.

This is a good point. I hear a lot of talk about how the solo tour is going to suck, but do we have any confirmation one way or another that it'll be a simple tiered based system?
And yes, I have read the same comments you have about the solo tour that were made a month ago.

I think the issue is that no one has told us what the solo world tour is. Even with the extensive previews that IGN just did there wasn't a single thing mentioned about it. This lends itself to the interpretation that hte solo tour is nothing special. Most comments and previews have been along the lines of 'there's solo stuff there, but WOW, BWT is AWESOME!'.
With the revelation that BWT is local multiplayer only, this has shifted a lot of people into wodnering what hte solo tour is like, and put them into a more pessimistic mode. Until Harmonix or someone outlines what can be expected in he solo tour, I expect to see more gripes.
I'm one of the people who probably will not get to experience as much of the BWT as I would like, but even if the solo tours are just like GH, I don't consider that to be horrible. I still get new songs and instruments to play with even if the game mode is nothing special. It's just that the GH type progression seems really dull an uncreative compared to the BWT implementation

I agree Aganerral. Welcome to the boards. Avoid the online BWT threads like the plague.

Thanks. Been reading for a while, just hadn't felt a need to post before :)
I don't think all the BWT related threads are necessarily bad, though there are too many of them. Harmonix should know how disappointed a good chunk of the fan base is by this. But endless complaining isn't going to change anything at this point. The thread 'Solutions to offline only BWT' started out well before it devolved..at least it was trying to think of ways around it :)
Overall, I'm bummed along the lack of online BWT, but I'll only get angry about it if there are songs that I can only unlock through BWT.

While it's true Solo tours haven't been laid out in stone, there are specific quotes comparing them to Guitar Hero more then BWT. You're right though, that's not very specific, and that's part of the reaction people are having.
If I had to guess, the solo tours are going to end up between the extremes. It's not going to literally be a list of songs like it is in GH. Like, there will probably be a map. But the setlists, battle of the vans, stuff like that is going to be missing. But really, there's no way to tell right now for sure.

Rock Band is going to be far superior to GHIII at any leval.Even on the solo tour it's gonna kick the crap out of GHIII.We may not be getting every thing we hoped for RIGHT NOW ,but it's a hell of alot more then what you would be getting with GHIII..............Maybe RB should be delayed a few months so they have more time to put the work in the game.WBT online and so on! Personally I'm happy with what RB has to offer for now.

We need more details before we can say that the solo tour is going to be any different or superior to GH3's. If all it is is a tiered setlist grinder with no decision making, no touring, no custom bands, then it'll be equivalent (other than being able to play drums or mike instead).
If the solo tour has some unrevealed twists, THEN we can say it's superior.

The picture on the right is blurred. I'm pretty sure a month or so ago that it was not blurred.

heh heh, after all the posts i made in various "disappointed about BWT not online and not available single player" threads I had not even considered that it was not confirmed. The way people were speaking (typing) I had assumed the solo tour had been confirmed to be GHesque . . . . I'm an ass.

WOW HOLY SH1T!!!1 I've never even noticed this before. If that's about the solo tour, then it looks like there is definitely character creation and possibly a venue selection similar to BWT! All we need is confirmation and news if you can make your own band and I'll be psyched more than ever! :D Maybe they're not shutting people out of BWT if they're single player, just making them play a different mode with the same features. I'm so relieved, thought I might be locked out of all the BWT features, looks like they might all be in ST! I'm so excited, if I get told anything other than I'm proposing, I might need to shut myself inside forever haha.

Haha, I'm such an idiot, I actually listened to everyone on these boards. Everyone said that the Solo tour would be exactly like GH with no good features (character customization, venue picks, other junk), but now I can see, solo tour and BWT are probably the exact same thing, just named different to denote single player and multiplayer :) w00t!

You know what that's not only a blurred version of the original image. That's a whole new image altogether. I recall the song titles being cut off, at least a good proportion of it. In this image they seem to be in complete form. The left side also had something that showed how many songs were in the game and it was like 85, but after an inaccurate confirmation by a HMX rep I guess they changed the images.

The blur's just because the song list is always in a state of flux, and they didn't want people taking the songs that appear there as gospel. That's all. If you look closely the blur is covering a series of song names, and the star ratings you've done on them, just like Guitar Hero.
This isn't proof that it's going to have the features of BWT. Yes, "Rio" appears as a city name, but remember in GH2 each tier was in a different location. So if anything this affirms the theory that it's gonna be identical to GH's style, not superior.
The ONE bonus I'm seeing is being able to use a created character... but not if you can use a created BAND, as in four created characters and a custom name / logo... if we can do that, great! If not... awww.

I don't think it says anything about the solo tour, however it is likely that it will be GHesque however it is neither confirmed or denied by a blurry picture. i would like to think that the solo tour will be as cool as BWT (not necessarily the same), but until it is officially confirmed i can only hope.

I just assumed the picture was blurred because there were songs that weren't confirmed/announced yet.
But other than that, the picture leads me to believe that Solo Tour will be superior to GH's system.

I had a feeling it would be something that was that obvious, thanks though! I'll check it out.
Putting up a blurry picture seems very counter productive to me, how is anyone supposed to see what it is, it makes no sense.

I hope its more like BWT too. I was thinking SWT should have the basic things that BWT we have, except for little stuff like, gaining popularity and doing gigs with other solo artists or joining a band for a special show. Idk just thoughts
Its better than just going through songs. If SWT isn't like BWT, then there isn't a point, we could just go to quickplay.

Which is pretty much what I did in GH2. "Career" only exists to:
1. Unlock encore songs.
2. Earn cash to unlock bonus songs.
Once I finished that there was no reason to touch the mode at all. It's quickplay from that point onward.
I guess it's serviceable as a means of locking content / prolonging gameplay, but I'd hardly call it a compelling game mechanic. It's more a trial you have to plow through to get to what you want. BWT is the polar opposite -- it takes the core (the songs) and does something unique and interactive with them.

So go play GHIII !The holiday seasone is coming up and every one wants RB now.The game isn't finished, from what HMX has said they are out of TIME.Do you want the game in Nov or Feb?Maybe we will get lucky and HMX will make a patch in the coming months , who knows? If you don't think RB is a better game then GHIII ,then don't buy it!

If you don't think RB is a better game then GHIII ,then don't buy it!
I didn't say that. I said Solo World Tour wasn't superior to GH3, because -- barring some revelations on how it works -- it has the same game mechanic of tiered setlists and encore unlocks.
Not once did I say "GH3 RULZ RB SUX", or that RB is inferior to GH3. I meant that this one game mode is equal to GH3. It's equal to GH2, for that matter. I don't get why someone could think, given the information we have, that Solo mode is innately superior to any GH game when it's the game concept at heart. Same. Equal.
BWT? Superior. Create-a-character? Superior. Instruments? Superior. Solo? Pretty much the same as we've seen before and will see in GH3.
If I'm proven wrong, then hooray! Glad to hear it. I haven't been proven wrong yet.
Also, I have full paid preorders down for both GH3 AND RB Bundle. So don't wave the fanboy argument of "If you don't like X, go buy Y instead!". I can buy X and Y and plan to. That doesn't mean ASPECTS of X can't be disappointing, though.
