Hi, if I bought rockband for ps2, would it play on my ps3? I know the instruments are compatible, but would the game also work? I'm asking this because i can get rockband on sale for a lot cheaper on the ps2 than the ps3.
thanks

im assuming it would work as it is backwards compatible but im also pretty sure that you won't be able to get the dlc.

I don't know if it would work.. but - if you have a PS3 GET THE PS3 VERSION! if you get the PS2 version you will miss out on ALOT of features and weekly DLC (new songs that you can download to add to your library).

You can probably get the PS2 bundle, then take the game and 'return' it to the store for credit then get the PS3 version.. or trade the PS2 version in to gamestop :)

Yea, I got the PS2 bundle for a friend for a B-Day and he just happened to get a PS3 that same day, that is exactly what he did.

I bought the ps2 version around when it came out, and enjoyed it for 3 months until i bought a ps3 and then I just traded the disc at a game place and bought it the disc for ps3. So i still have all ps2 original instruments.

I tried it just to see when I got my PS3... PS2 version did work fine (note: I got an 80 Gb one... I've heard there's more compatibility issues with the 40 Gb one). Of course, PS3 version is MUCH better.

get the ps2 bundle, do a no history return on the game software with the retailer of your choice and get the ps3 version with the store credit. see....smart!!

I originally purchased the PS2 bundle for my PS2. After hearing about how cool the PS3 version was I went out and bought a PS3 and the PS3 copy of the game. I have tested the PS2 version of the game on my PS3 and it does in fact work just fine. (80GB)

The PS2 Rock Band disk does not work with the PS3 40GB model...

I just tried it, and got this error message:
"This model of the PS3 system is not compatible with Playstation2 format software."

As other's have said, the controllers that come in either the PS3 or PS2 Rock Band bundles are exactly the same, and will work on either console. Also, the PS2 disk should work with the PS3 80GB model...but I can't test that for you!

You must have the 60g or 80g models -these are the only ones that will play PS2 games. the 40g model doesn't - hence the cheaper price.
