I just made the jump to playing videogames in HD today, and it is awesome. I was wondering how many of you play in HD or SD.

Technically, I've been gaming in HD resolutions since 2000 on my PC...
But my PC and PS3 share the same monitor, a 24" LCD with a 1920x1200 panel, so I do game in HD regardless of platform.

HD. The full HD resolution (1080p) on some games is really awesome, like Ridge Racer.

We made the jump to a newer TV a couple Christmases past, and although it only goes up to 1080i, it's a world of difference from the S-video we used before.

I play mine on a stone tablet with SD output, and I have to walk barefoot in the snow, uphill both ways to change the volume.

I used to play in HD (1080i) but we got HDTV a little while ago and my old TV only has one HD input, so my 360 got bumped down a notch...

Definitely HD. My TV is kinda small so it's only 720p, but it's still an amazing difference in some games, though not so much in others. (Hell, Rock Band would play the same on a Genesis since it's all about the music)

My brother-in-law plays RB on his 26 inch SD television. It's almost impossible to play 4 person co-op.
With the new consoles, HD is practically almost the only way to go.

I was going to get a component cable for my 360 for my birthday, and I found it in some random drawer in my room. lol. I play in 720p and some games look completely different like GTA4 and CoD4.

A friend of mine plays RB on a 19" SDTV, and we get by just fine. We just stood a little closer to it than we normally would. It's the games that require more detail that throw me off... I tried playing Halo on that TV, and it sucked.

yeah.. i was playing 4 person co-op last night at a buddies house, it was so small, i was terrible. it really affects ur gameplay when u downgrade to SD and lose 30 inches of monitor....

SD, if that is standard definition. I have my TV settings on wide screen for my xbox so it's easier to read text in Dead Rising. I really don't mind playing SD or HD, I don't care for a slight difference.(In my opinion surely). I play games because they're fun, not because the game has pretty
I mean sure, my family have a HDTV. However; I don't play on it unless I have more than one friend come over.

I had to login just to reply to this comment. Slight? are you kidding me? You need your eyes checked man, a slight difference is 480p to 1080p. A huge difference is SD to HD. I had a 62" HDTV before my boss at work decided to shut the place down, it was the greatest gaming experience I've ever had. Dead Rising text was actually readable. Now i'm back on my 20" SD TV and it blows.

I bet he's one of those people that say upscaled DVDs look just as good as bluray. Also probably thinks pigs fly, the sky is purple and grass tastes like cotton candy.

480p is SD. Don't you mean 720p? For fast-moving games, you would be hard-pressed to tell the difference between that and 1080p. 480p, however, is pretty obvious.
Still wish Rock Band had a 1080p option, however.

480p is still an option under HD. And looks a hell of a lot better on an HDTV.
I played all my games in 1080i when I had the TV though (didn't support 1080p)

i just Recently got into HD (about summer of '07, actually a year ago last week) with my 42" LCD Moniter. I love it. I want a computer for my room. Just the Tower. Dont need a moniter for it. i have one. 42" of it.
i love it to death. I love to actually read stuff (LOST PLANET IS MY PRIME EXAMPLE)

^ Is Lost Planet any good? I was considering picking it up for PS3.
My 26 " HDTV is LCD and has all the outputs, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. My PS3 automatically chose 1080p when I hooked it up to the HDTV.

I don't have a "fancy pants hdtv" yet. I've made the decision to do so when funds permit, and not before.

Okay, okay, it's a exaggeration, sorry. It doesn't help that I do have bad vision. :o
Also...
"I bet he's one of those people that say upscaled DVDs look just as good as bluray. Also probably thinks pigs fly, the sky is purple and grass tastes like cotton candy."
I haven't made a comparison with Bluray and DVD so I can't say really anything. Also on the last two things, come on, I'm not that stupid! :)
I have to agree. It might be more than a "slight difference," but I've never done a side-by-side comparison or anything (and I don't want to- I'm blissfully ignorant.) To me, pretty games still look pretty. They would certainly be prettier in HD, but I'm perfectly happy with my cheap SD set.
Though, like you said, graphics are nothing unless the gameplay is there.
Here's my situation- the TV in my room, my gaming set, is inside my closet (saves space), but it's a perfect fit. For me, a bigger TV simply wouldn't work. However, with HD tv prices falling like they are, I might try to make space for a new rig. I figure the transition is inevitable...
Yeah that what I was getting at but I'm afraid I'll be labeled as a idiot now...

It's Different. If theres a demo for it for the PS3. Try it first before you spend money on it. Oh and make sure if you do like it, Get the Colonies Edition. It has more to the story mode and more for multiplayer. I dont own it, and when i re-bought my LP Game. the colonies Edition came out the next day.
its fun. i love playing it.

The only LP demo on PS3 is only for online and they've probably taken it down long ago. Also there's no Colonies version on the PS3 but I think it comes with that stuff to begin with, not sure though. I hated the 360 demo so never looked into it.

32'' Westinghouse LCD HDTV (720p/1080i).....it is pretty good, I upgraded from a Sanyo 27'' which had component hook ups. It wasnt HD but it was through component so the quality was better than standard SD.
I wouldnt say the upgrade would be worth $1000+ but if you got the money than go for it.

I do have 36" of old school tV, so it's not too bad. But for some reason, the things I want to get go on the back burner to things like food and house payments....

480p is not HD, it's progressive scan SD, even 720i is technically not considered HD
720p is tru HD
1080i and 1080p are HD at a higher resolution
I play at 1080i (since that's all my TV can handle)

HD all the way!! But I didn't made the jump right away, I got my HDTV like 2 months after I got my PS3, which was good because it made me appreciate it even more, the difference is HUGE!!!!
