Who wins?

Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, and either Slayer or Testement, depending on who you ask.

VS.

Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice In Chains.

Thrash owns all.

Nirvana is VERY overrated.

Yes, but I didn't vote Thrash because Metallica was included, but because of all 4/5 of those bands.

I didnt know soundgarden was grunge.

but as the other poster stated.... thrash wins.

i just realized lol....

not only is thrash the better music....

if you put all the band members together... the thrash dudes would totally beat down the grunge dudes like a red-headed step child.

Ah but what if we gave them math tests??? :D

Actually forget it -- I'll take Queen (Brian May), Boston (Tom Scholz) and Offspring (Dexter Holland) against any other combo I can think of in a math contest.

Grunge wins easy. I like most the thrash bands of the thrash bands but Anthrax/testament are terrible. In the end, the grunge bands may not have been able to play as fast, but they were better musicians and could write more diverse music than the thrash bands could (see LOAD era, late 90s/early 2000s megadeth)

ill go with Grunge because i only like Metallica in Thrash

and i love Nirvana, like Pearl Jam, and i dont mind Soundgarden and Alice In Chains

with grunge though Smashing Pumpkins should be added on and i love them more then any other bands.

i dont consider metallica thrash.

i dont consider pearl jam grunge.

after kicking those bands out of my decision making. you left me with a difficult choice. i took grunge but next time you should pick something people will tend not to be a fan of both. ...an example emo vs metal or punk vs classic rock or grunge vs glam. all three of those are on completely different spectrums of each other.

emo is whiny and well emotional i guess metal is deep voiced and violent.

punk is talentless abrasive and strangely dressed and classic rock is ... classic talented and very well known and respected.

grunge is dirty distorted and unkempt while glam is vocal gold and dressed in and groomed in a... i cant think of a word... stand out way?

anyway you probably get my point.

I think he picked this because both genres had a "big 4"

I picked grunge. Right now I probably like both big 4s equally, but grunge got me into music so I have to pick it for that. If my friend hadn't showed me Nirvana in 5th grade I would probably be listening to nothing but pop and rap right now.

Right now for me it goes like this Metallica>Nirvana>Alice in Chains>Anthrax>Megadeth>Soundgarden>Pearl Jam>Slayer

I'm going to have to disagree with that statement. Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, The Jam, and The Damned (I could go on and on) have some of the most talented musicians I have ever seen. I agree with your overall point, though. I'd like to see how well punk would stack up against hard rock or prog, or metal against emo.

Yes, I did.

What about Testement?

I don't consider Testament a part of the big four but if I did they would be at the very end. Testament is the one band out of all of those that I've never really gotten into. I wouldn't mind seeing them live, but I wouldn't buy their cd.

I dunno man. The only man that I'm scared of is Dave, and that's cuz I know he has a black belt. Look at Chris Cornell with his hair. I wouldn't mess with him, or Sean Kinney. He reminds me of Fabio.......Oh wait, Slayer and Testament(YEAH!!!!! FINALLY!!!!!) are involved. Nvm. Total thrash ownage.

Grunge is better. Jeremy, Even Flow, Daughter, Black, Courduroy, and Alive (Pearl Jam), Heart-Shaped Box, In Bloom, Smells like Teen Spirit, Dumb (Nirvana), and Black Hole Sun( Soundgarden) defeats thrash. But under Thrash, were's Slipknot and Disturbed?

Ahem........

Megadeth-Looking Down The Cross, Mechanix, Peace Sells, Wake Up Dead, My Last Words, Unto The Lungs Of Hell, In My Darkest Hour, Hangar 18, Holy Wars, Tornado Of Souls, Ashes In Your Mouth, Countdown To Extinction.

Metallica-The FourHorsemen, Whiplash, Jump In The Fire, Phantom Lord, Seek And Destroy, Ride The Lighting, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Fade To Black, Call Of Ktulu, Battery, Master Of Puppets, Sanitarium, Orion, Blackened, One, The Shortest Straw, Harvester Of Sorror, To Live Is To Die, Dyer's Eve.

Slayer-Captor Of Sin, The Anti-Christ, Chemical Warfare, Black Magic, Hardening Of The Arteries, Hell Awaits, Raining Blood, Angel Of Death, Post Mortem, Jesus Saves, South Of Heaven, Spill The Blood, Seasons In The Abyss, War Ensemble, Dittohead, God Send Death, Disciple.

Testament-Over The Wall, First Strike Still Deadly, Burnt Offerings, The Preacher, Trial By Fire, Practice What You Preach, Into The Pit!!!!!, The Legacy, Return To Serenity, Trail Of Tears.

I'm sorry I had to.

Dude, Slipknot and Disturbed are in a different genre. Nowhere near Thrash.

I think it's funny that Anthrax is always the top 4 of the Thrash movement and yet their most popular songs are all covers. Bring The Noise (Public Enemy), Anti-Social (Trust), and Got The Time (Joe Jackson). Also, didnt Soundgarden and Alice In Chains have more of a metal thing going when they came out? Geography made them Grunge?

I find Grunge-musicians way better and more diverse than Thrash-musicians. Thrash is just fastfastfast, while Grunge is aestetics, atleast that's how I feel when I listen to it. And AIC and Pearl Jam owns every Thrashband. Therefor, Grunge get's my vote.

Strangly enough, I'm a Metalhead, so logical thinking would make me chose Thrash. But logical thinking sucks :p

Among The Living made them Thrash Legends.

One of the great thrash albums of all time.

coudlnt disagree more. Thats one of the reasons i fell in love with thrash metal and most heavy metal for that matter.

The musicianship owns most other musical genres unless you start getting intot he really technically demanding stuff... ala ... progressive, jazz and classical.

:)

just cuz its loud and fast and hurts your ears doesnt necessarily mean they're musicianship sucks.

My Last Words, Peace Sells... But Who's Buying, Holy Wars... The Punishment Due, Rust In Peace... Polaris, Symphony Of Destruction, Countdown To Extinction( Megadeth), Seek And Destroy, Metal Militia, Ride The Lightning, Fade To Black, , Master Of Puppets, Welcome Home(Sanitarium)(Metallica), Raining Blood, Angel Of Death, Seasons In The Abyss, Disciple, Expendable Youth(Slayer) demolish Grunge(Sorry, I just hate Anthrax).

Thrash wins by default due to staying power. They came first and are still putting out music. AIC, and Nirvana have no front man, Soundgarden is no more, and Pearl Jam (hmmmm is Eddie Veder still making music? So thrash for the win!

Megadeth was definite. For the rest, it really depends. Metallica would win easy if we could wipe the past 17 years of suck away from our memories. I'm not so sure about Anthrax. Slayer and Testament would win, but it would be a bit closer.

There was nothing trendy about the "Grunge" movement. They just happen to be on the right place at the right time making the right music. None of those bands wanted to become the trend.

The big four of thrash win for me solely because of Metallica's strength in every genre. Grunge just never really flowed with me, and though IMHO Chris Cornell is one of the greatest vocalists of our time, that can't save the grunge foursome from Nirvana (overrated) and Alice in Chains (just don't like 'em). As for the Founding Four, I hate Slayer and Anthrax, but I love Megadave (minus Risk) and I feel like Metallica just can't make a bad album, no matter what genre they try to put out. And just for good measure, my St. Anger themed flame-resistant suit is on.

I don't listen to thrash, and I got tired of grunge a long time ago (being in high school during the 90s let me hear enough of the stuff to last a lifetime). I went with grunge simply because I like Pearl Jam, even though I can't even remember the last time I listened to any of their older, grungier material.
