Since every person has different opinions on the greatest band what is the greatest 3 man band of all time in your opinion

Me personally it is a tie between my favorite Canadian rock band Rush and my favorite imagery band Pink Floyd (imagery best describes them because every song they have paints an image in your head)

I would chose Pink Floyd because they are in the rock and roll hall of fame and Rush isn't (yet) that and the dark side of the moon is one of the best albums of all time

I know I've got "That'll Be The Day", "Peggy Sue" and "Maybe Baby" hiding on a compilation set. Those are all good ones.

I just think it's interesting people probably don't think of them as a three-piece or that a three-piece could have worked from that era, but those are just a start on a phenomenal catalog produced in a couple of years before Buddy died in that plane crash in 1959 at the age of 22. Some of their classics didn't even chart, like Words of Love and It's So Easy.

1.) tie between the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Nirvana (I know it's blasphemy to put them in the same tier, but I like both VERY much.)
2.) Rush

That's all I got right now.

"It's So Easy" is the song Linda Rondstadt did a cover of isn't it?

Yeah -- and Blind Faith and Santana covered Well, All Right. There's a ton of deep tracks that yield great material from that band. Secondhand songs show 25 of his songs being covered by artists most by like 5 or more.

Pink Floyd never recorded an album as a trio and they never performed as a trio (as far as I know) so I would have to say that disqualifies them as being a trio despite the fact that at this point in time they only have 3 band members.

"Genesis"...Phil collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford. (I've never really considered them a 3 man band though...probably because of the original members)

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke, don't judge bands based on whether or not they are in that please.

The Police
Cream
Nirvana

These are some of my favorites, but the best (IMO) is RUSH...hands down.
Even if you don't like thier music, they are techinchaly one of the greatest.
They are one of those "Musicians' Musician" groups.

Out of curiosity -- did they play as a 3 piece live? I have this image that they were 3 piece in the studio but brought in extra players to play live. But I could be off base, because I didn't follow them that closely.

I'm pretty sure you're right. Schiz would probably know more about 'em than I do. Seems like every time I've seen 'em live they always have an extra drummer when Phil Collins steps away from the kit to sing??? That's probably the other reason I've never considered them a 3-man band...lol

I've gotta go with Rush. I was going to throw in Prong, but everytime I saw them they had a fourth member live (John Bechdel on keyboards/samples).

Other than that, it would have to be Tenacious D (Kage, Jables and Lee)!
