"Man Who Sold the World - Nirvana(not Bob Dylan)"

Well obviously. They can't put a non-existant song in the game.

How can you miss out two of the best bassists in the world?
Steve Harris of Iron Maiden
and
Geddy Lee of Rush

Pick any song, they all have decent bass lines.

I, too am a bassist and would love to see some better bass lines in this game. One of my favorite bass lines of all time is King Nothing by Metallica. NIB is the greatest bassline I've ever heard. Yea though, I love that list.

Any of the pre-BSSM Chili Peppers, something off of Mothers Milk would be nice. Stone Cold Bush maybe.

I'm a bassist and keyboadist. I was wondering why you left out Les Claypool and the bassist for Mars Volta- mainly the new album(amputechture.)

They didn't leave out Les Claypool, he plays the bass for NIB.

I didn't leave out the greats like Les Claypool, and Geddy Lee on accident(hell Rush is one of my personal favs). I dont really need to give more credit to the guys who get it all the time. Steve Harris of Iron Maiden is legendary, and Flea pulls off some of the most bad ass **** Ive ever heard. I have to admit tho I havnt really listened to Mars Volta much, as I usually stick to older music and the newer artists would really have to pull off something extraordinary to catch my attention, I dont doubt that they are great but with my personal taste(based mostly on the music I play/listen to on a regular basis) I dont get much exposure to the most recent releases.(Mars Volta isnt that new, but Sabbath is still #1 in my book, so Im alittle behind the times I guess.)

Sorry for not throwing hype at every Bass player in the Hall of Fame, but most of them really didnt need it, as their reputation precedes them.

Les Claypool didnt play Bass for the original recording of N.I.B. that was indeed the Holy of Holy on bass guitar GEEZER. and damn him for it. It was the first song I tried to learn on Bass, and it took me a long time to get it down. In fact my fingers still ache everytime I play it.(And it never sounds close enough to Geezer to suit me)

I was actually surprised that no one commented on Stranglehold, my band mates dont have the same appreciation for it as I do, but I really figured fellow Bassists would have a similiar attraction to such an AWESOME song.(not just the bass either, its all around the IDEAL Rock song in my opinion)

isnt the original a david bowie song? anyway..

for bass some good bands would be stuff like rancid, mr. big, the who, ones with fat bass solos, or good bass lines, ooh money by pink floyd would be good!

A good number of songs that have good basslines would probably not be all that fun to play in a video game, imo. Something like Money is a good example, it's very simple, very repetitive. On the other hand, the lion's share of the stuff that I think would be fun to play wouldn't work for Rock Band because it's A) not rock (Jaco Pastorius) or B) contains too little of other instruments (Victor Wooten).

There are some pretty good compromises to this, like Primus and RHCP, though. Here are a few good bands/songs from my view as a bassist:

Primus: Lauqerhead, To Defy the Laws of Tradition, Pudding Time, Frizzle Fry etc.
RHCP: Under the Bridge, Apache Rose Peacock, Naked in the Rain, Salute to Kareem.
The Who: Boris the Spider (Lol), My Generation (Great, quick solo).
Led Zeppelin: What is and What Should Never Be, The Lemon Song, Living Loving Maid.
Mudvayne: Death Blooms, Dig, Happy.
Mr. Bungle: Platypus, Slowly Growing Deaf, Carousel, The Air Conditioned Nightmare.

Platypus is my #1 recommendation for the game overall. It has a great bass solo and some amazing tempo changes which could make it quite interesting to play... I would not envy the vocalist on that one though... Emulating Mike Patton is setting yourself up for failure.

I like that list. It has most of the songs I think of when I'm not at the pc, and when I am forget about them.
