View Full Version : Yet Another BWT Question

Sorry if this has alread been asked.

I know there's no online BWT, which isn't a problem, got two friends who are as pumped about the game as I am and we'll have guest singers now and then. My question is that if I'm playing on my own 360 at home, tearing up the solo modes and pimping out my Rocker's duds and whatnot, am I going to be able to take that character to my friend's house to play on their 360 with my decked out guy? Or am I going to have to make a different character on their XBox? And vice versa.

I just got a 360 the other day, so I'm still figuring out how all the logistics of Live and such work, but am I going to be able to log into XBL somehow and get my character to play with, or am I going to need to get a memory card? Or is it even possible?

if you want to take you game save to a friends house you can either use a memory card, provided that the file size permits the use of a memory card, or you can just remove the hard drive from the 360, if you have a hard drive. Other than that, i believe that you will have to restart your character/BWT on your friends xbox. :)

Reaper has the right idea. You would have to bring a memory card or hard drive.

Saved games don't have anything to do with Xbox Live. Much like when your friends go over your house, their created characters and band progress will be saved to your hard drive only. Xbox Live only saves/loads Gamercards in order to get Achievements and update your Profile with what game you played and stuff.

Just to add to this, I've yet to see an option where you can take something from one save file and add it to another. What I mean is, you can bring your memory card/harddrive over to your friend's house and load your "Profile" on his xbox, where you can play your WBT and use your avatars with him. But it's very unlikely you will able to export any avatars from your profile, then add it to his.

Could be wrong, but I haven't really seen it happen on XBox yet.

it might be linked to gamertage but I doubt it.

They did say in one of the articles, I don't remember if it was IGN or Gamespot, that you can tear up the solo tour, outfit your character & buy all the gear, then plug that character into any band for BWT. They didn't describe the mechanics though...

I for one think this is awesome. I'll be able to be the band leader at my house, but be able to take my guitarist/drummer/bassist to my friend's place & play for his band. :D

I'm pretty sure they just mean on your own memory unit. There is not a single game out there on any system that will allow you to load save files without the actual memory unit.

That makes sense. *laugh* (I'm probably the only guy on the boards who doesn't actually own a 360 yet... I'm picking mine up this weekend.)

It's hard to tell sarcasm on the internet. If you mean it doesn't make sense because you don't have a 360, I can make it easier.

Think of your Ps2. You obviously need to bring your memory card with you whenever you wanted to use something you saved right?

Same thing for Xbox 360. They have memory cards and detachable hard drives. If you wanna go to your friend's house and use the character you created, you need to bring your memory card or hard drive. Only problem is, once you load, they can't play their character or save files because you loaded yours.

Hope that's better.

Sorry, I meant that it actually did make sense. :) I just haven't had the opportunity to play around with a MU yet. My friend Josh is trying to walk me through the basics too. *laugh*

Thanks man! :D

Thanks for all the input everyone. I'm still getting used to XBL and what it can do. It sounds like we'll be boned either way, where it'll either have to my 360's data or theirs. I'm guessing I'll just have to live at their house and tear up the solo modes on their Box unless they do indeed have some system in place for this, eg. being able to import a band member from another 360 via a memory card.

if the characters and saves/bands work in the same way as the 360 smackdown games it would be possible to play a character from a mu and the harddrive at the same time.
at least i would think it should be possible.
and you can have two profiles loaded at the same time to whoever said you cant.

Has anyone tried this yet? loading a avatar/charater from Player 1's harddrive under player 1's profile which contains player 1's rockband save game, and then loading another avatar/character from Player 2's memory unit under player 2's profile which contains player 2's rockband save game, then using these 2 avatars/characters in a band?

I tried several searches on this forum for this info, but can't find anything saying if this possible, or if there is a way to import/export your avatar so you can use your own avatars in a friends xbox 360 save game.

Thanks.

I had this same question a while back, and purchased a memory unit just to try it out (with every intention of returning it if it didn't work). Fortunately, it worked exactly as expected...

First thing you need to do is save your game data to the memory unit (MU). By default it will save to your hard drive, but it's easy enough to save it to a MU (main screen > Manage Data > Load/Save).

Secondly, you'll have to save your gamertag to the MU. You CAN "Recover gamertag from XBOX Live", but I found that takes forever... if you already have the MU, do it that way. To save your gamertag to the MU, you have to go through the XBOX Live dashboard, and use the far-right blade. *Note: this won't COPY your gamertag from your hard drive to the MU, it will MOVE it.

Now, take the MU to a friend's house, plug it in, and "Sign In"... On the list of available profiles, you will see one reading off the MU... once you sign in as you, I think your game data (character data) automatically loads. Your friends list will also transfer (with your gamertag) so you can mix and match online band mates if you wish.

Any achievements you gain will be stored to the character data and gamertag on the MU. Once you get back to your place, you'll want to transfer your gamertag back to your machine (or leave it running off the MU, it doesn't really matter) and load your character data from the MU (if you changed anything on your characters at your friend's place).

It sounds a bit complicated, but it's actually quite easy once you have the MU.

Thanks for the info! I already have a MU, and have moved my Xbox Profile to it before for other games. Glad to know that will work for Rock Band too. I was just worried that the Rock Band game wouldn't know to look within two different save games and be able to pull out characters from both. Very cool that it does.

Thanks again for the info!
