... and what's the minimum amount you would be happy to see, personally?
Let's hear some guesses, folks.. you can call bragging rights once it's released :)

I think that there will be 45 songs on the setlist and maybe 25 bonus tracks

with the GI information about 5x the venues of GH i'd like to see the same for songs :P

Every song won't work for every instrument, so probably quite a few. I say 60-80.

Honestly, I'm not looking for them to break the bank or anything. I think somewhere around the GH2 range would be good, maybe even a little less. Sacrilege, I know, but think about it, each song will have four different ways to play it. Sure, the bass and guitar parts might be similar, but the drums and singing parts will be wildly different. So even if they put 40 songs on there, it's could feel like 160 songs when all is said and done.
And not to mention that it was mentioned in the IGN interview that they're looking to really go nuts on the downloadable content. And I might be speaking way too soon, but it just doesn't seem like Harmonix will be looking to rape our wallets like Activision tried to do. I'd rather they get the game out on time with a moderate amount of songs and keep a constant stream of downloadable songs soon after release.
That said, if they decide to release it with 8,316 songs, I for one will not be disappointed.

I Am Hoping for a 35-45 Setlist With at Least 15 Bonus Songs and Dowloadable Songs

I'm going to be brave and shoot for the moon: 70 songs on the disc.
Now I'll just sit back, and wait for the bragging rights to come to me.
Anyways, as for the minimum I'd be happy to see? Umm... I guess 40. 50 would be great though. No idea about the bonus songs. I'm less "about" the bonus songs and more into the ones I know (or have at least heard of).

62.3 songs if each emo song counts only for 0.1.

I'm gonna need to see at least 50 songs and a buncha bonus tracks to be fully happy, but I'll settle for 40 and be just in a good mood

Honestly, I think it's going to be a WHOLE lot more than you guys are projecting. The GI said there's 40 different venues right? So say there are at least 3 songs per venue, that's 120 songs for you math whizzes out there. And I'm thinking there will be more than that even.... It just sounds mind boggling to think about it though... So my guestimation is 160 songs baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
This game has officially pwned GH3

Fine, I'll say 186!

Fine, I'll say 186!
So, Lets do some math:
Each venue has to have at least 6-7 songs in it to at least "one-up" GHI and GHII, right? But since each venue will likely be a band or genre or similar (say J-Pop, Reggae, Ska, R&B, Folk, Rock, Death Metal, Brit Rock, Blues... the list is huge - just look at your cable TV's music genre channels)
So that's a comfortable 6 songs per venue(one more than previous games). So I'm thinking 240 plus another 50-60 songs you can buy or unlock or that are special mixes and whatnot. (or download them once you unlock them)
300 is my guess. The current single-layer GHII DVDs fit roughly 50-60 songs, so with 8-10 times the space(program itself takes a chunk of the DVD only once - figure 3 gigs of music data for 50 songs), there's plenty of room for as many as 300-400 songs on a single-layer Blu-Ray.
P.S. A single layer DVD can easily fit 300-400 256K encoded MP3s. Max quality, dual stereo, etc - no corners cut. At an average of 15 Megs per song, I get 4500MB for 300 songs if every one was a worst-case scenario. Most will be in the 9-10meg per song range. That's a fraction of the available storage.

300 songs. LOL, you've got no idea of what you're saying, do you ?

Wow you guys are clueless. 300 songs my ass. What about the Wii or 360? We don't have that much space. Plus, if it were 300 songs, it would still be early in production.

The IGN review said "hundreds" - so that means at least a double-layer DVD.
At 15 megs per song, that would be 4500 megs at most for audio - if 192K and joint stereo and so on, a more typical encoding, it's closer to 7-8 megs per song). A double-layer DVD can fit 8500K or so?
Wii:
Plenty of room, since the WII's graphics would be extremely crude - no more space than a typical PS2 game, if that.
360:-
Well, they've done that with GH2 - downloadable content. Ship it with a DL DVD and have another DL DVD or so worth of stuff to get once online(or as I suggested, two or three DVDs with a loader program to drop the song data onto the drive).
PS3:
A single Blu-ray, probably half filled at that.

What? Isn't the whole point that every song will work for every instrument?

I'll just chime in with my thoughts now.. I was originally thinking that it'd ship with not a whole lot, given how costly and time consuming producing the game must already be, but after I saw the bullet points for everything they're pulling out for this, I'm now actually thinking it'll manage to ship around the same amount as GH2 (not that that makes it any less expensive to licence).
For the main game anyway. Bonus tracks I'm not too concerned with (well, unless it's j-rock *COUGH COUGH*)
And I'd be plenty happy with that.
Just to touch on a couple of things added here... you can't really go on the size of an average mp3, because each song needs a total of at least 4 seperate tracks, 256k isn't max quality encoding, and 300 songs is... is... well, it's a lot of licencing fees.

Based on the 360 disc storage size, how long they have to write it up, and 40 venues...I'm going to guess 80 songs on the initial disc (GH2 360 had 74), and at least another 80 downloadable within the first 3 months. I hope :)

Hahahahaha.
You do know that each song will have to use at least 5 different tracks to make up each song? In GH1/GH2 guitar and bass were separate from the main band track, and if RB keeps a similar way of making it, that's 5 tracks per song: guitar, bass, drums, vocals, rest of the band. And this would also mean charting the "hundreds" of songs. Going by how it was in GH1/2, 4 difficulties, 4 instruments, that's 16 note charts for each song. So going by you predictions, 15 megs per track is 75 megs per song on music data alone. That'll add up VERY quickly.
1)It would be impossible to fit all that SONG information onto a single DVD. Even on a "crude" Wii one, it wouldn't fit.
2)Licensing hundreds of songs at once would cost millions and millions of dollars, the game would have to sell many million copies to break even, or cost $200
I'm predicting 40-50 career songs, and hopefully like 20-30-ish bonus songs.

This is (IMO) a game that is better fitted for the PS3 (content wise), the blu ray just has so much space on it, however, xbox 360 owners will completly freak out if they only get a fraction of the PS3s songs. But lets pretend they make an all out PS3 version..
Im pretty sure its been confirmed that they are using more than one song per artist...
Lets assume they use (my guess) 3-5 songs per artist...
bring in about (my guess) 70-90 artists
thats anywhere from 210-450 songs (as my prediction)
but this could all be an undershot.......
But I would say over 200 songs for sure.

As far as I know, they've only talked about adding artists entire catalogs via DLC. I don't see that happening, though, but I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a few artist get multiple songs via DLC.

I think there will be between 55-75 songs. including bonus tracks. I have to say.. most of my favorite songs in GH2 are bonus tracks, so I hope they don't skimp on those. I know they have good taste in music, but I also hope there aren't many repeat artists.. there are so many different bands out there it would be an absolute shame and a waste to continue to have the same ones in the game, some of you people really need to explore and hear new things (stuff that, omg, you might even like/love?), so don't be closed minded about having songs you have not heard. It is a great way to get into new music, between GH1 and 2 I have found many songs I never heard of that I love, and many that I HAVE heard of I lost respect for (heart shaped box = boringest song EVER),
so, yeah, there you have my opinion you didn't ask for, I hope some of you are enlightened :)

Doesn't that sound kind of weird though? What are the chances that all of the songs on one album would suit Rock Band well for each part? I'm not sure I like the idea of doing that too much. Maybe if there are a couple albums that work well with the game overall, but I can't see that happening hardly ever.

I think full albums should be download content - of course full albums shouldn't be featured in the game, because in the game itself you want to appeal to a wide varity of people, you don't do that by putting lots of songs by the same artist - downloads, on the other hand, are optional, and I think it would be amazing having full albums, especially concept albums (gimmie some dredg), or albums where its only one really long song
