well trophies were supposed to be a feature in home, but home has yet to get out of beta, so they decided to release them anyway.

I'm thinking they're a bad idea if they're done a la 360 with gamerpoints. That said, if they're just standalone acheivements with no value attached to them then they might be alright

Well PS3 didn't really rip MS off about the trophies; What you're not aware of is this has been a plan for a VERY long time. They then decided it would be inbedded into HOME, when that was released. But the delays on home kept stacking and they finally announced that they will just release that and ingame XMB in the next patch. 2 things taken out of HOME too please the Sony camp for a bit. There is word around that HOME is supposed to be released December of this year. Pretty long to see if that comes true.

Actually, Sony was the 1st one to create achievements on the PS2. Insomniac has been using achievements in their games for some time now.

As far as Trophies go on the PS3, your trophies actually have a value in the background and each one you get works toward leveling you up. So every PS3 is essentially turning into an RPG. :)
As with RPG's, it will take more to get to 3 than it did to get to two.

I am hoping that Harmonix patches in Trophies for Rock Band 1. the 360 has good achievements, so just porting those in works for me.

2.40 is live now if anyone wants ingame xmb/trophies, as far as I know Super stardust HD is the only game that will currently net you trophies as of 5:30 am, but there's a few getting it, google the list.

it should consist of in-game XMB and the trophies. over 70% of ps3 games should contain trophies, no one knows which ones though.

The only game with trophies right now is Super Stardust HD. All the other games will have to be patched, and I'm sure we'll see some patches soon. The "70% of the current games" are games that will be patching in the near future, or games that had it in mind when they were developed. Sony says it should only take developers a "days work" to implement trophies, if they so choose.

In game XMB -
Hit the PS button while playing a game and you can now access your Cross Media Bar. From there you can send messages (this is great for communicating online with RB, since we don't have voice support), some games will support custom soundtracks that will be controlled there (also needs patches), as well as your trophies and such.

To summarize, any games that wish to use trophies or in-game music with the new firmware WILL need to be patched to do so.

PSN director of operations, Eric Lampel, has confirmed that Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune will receive a Trophy update "at some point in the foreseeable future." In fact, Lampel told GameSpy, "Ultimately, we'll have trophies for every game." But ultimately is without a deadline currently, suggesting Trophy patches will be trickling out for the, um, foreseeable future.

Still, we imagine Sony is leaning on certain studios to allocate resources to Trophy building asap. Certainly there's a greater demand for Trophy support in Uncharted than in, let's say, Genji: Days of the Blade. Then again, an actual, historically accurate award for sticking the giant crab's weak point might be reason enough to procure Genji from a dusty bargain bin and suffer through the ill-fated launch title. Massive Damage Trophy? We so want that one.

I sure haven't, I've always been jealous of the 360 achievements. Finally something to make me happy and make a dull game more fun again. But my friend got his 360 and has like 7-8K as a gamer score. He plays quite a bit, so you might be fibbing a bit here.

i've had my 360 for a few years, it really just gets larger over time.

There have been bits where it grows alot, like when im on vacation or something, but over the course of a few years it just gets larger.

And my experience with ps3 users calling achievements stupid is just my personal experience i guess, from other forums and some of my friends. I personally think this is great and will prolly get me playing the ps3 more, a definitive factor in multi platform releases for me has been achievements, because it gives you more goals and expands the longevity of a game, this is actually really great news.

Correction.... sony was working with nintendo on the SNES then nintendo back stabbed them so sony made a competing conole to back stab at them. Which in turn the console did well so they stayed with it.

Rock Band 1 should definitely get patched to support trophies. I, and countless other gamers (including many members of the Gamer Advisory Panel) would love to see trophies enabled for Rock Band. If it only takes an estimated day's worth of work for developers to create the patch, then why not set aside a day to do it and then release it to we PS3 users en-masse? Since there are already apparently achievements for XBox 360 users, that will help Harmonix lessen their load on thinking of what criteria to implement as trophy-worthy. Copy what the XBox players' achievements are, make them available as a Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze set of trophies, and then ba-da-bing, ba-da-boom, we're all happy and extending our interest and love for Rock Band!

Then again, it would be pretty cool if Harmonix could create a unique set of trophy goals just for PS3 players to be able to enjoy. ;)
