I hope they include them in RB2 or give those of us who purchased RB1 the ability to download them for free or at a reduced price to be included in RB2

There has been no official word as of yet. I would love a free download pack but it would be hard to prove to the server that you actually own Rock Band 1 to download the songs.

I just read yesterday that the dowloaded songs will be migrated over to RB2. Not sure about the standard songs.
I read it in Game informer and one some website.

Yes the downloaded ones will be, but there are 50+ songs from the original disc that I would still like to play as well.

Yeah current and future DLC is confirmed to work on all Rock Band games.
I doubt, and really don't expect to get tracks from RB1 for free. I think a fair deal would be to offer them in packs or singles at a reduced price so we can finish up albums, etc. That shouldn't take too much work on HMX part aside from working out any licensing agreements.

Well if that ends up being the case I'm not paying for the on disk songs twice just so I don't have to switch disks.

Actually, it would be quite easy, if they do it right. When the game Crackdown was released, bundled with it was the opportunity to download and participate in the Halo 3 Beta. When the time came, you put the game in, it authenticated with the server, and the download link was activated to download the beta. The thing is, once it was used once, the disc could not be used to download the beta again. I tried to get it onto my bro's 360 so we could play together and it would not allow it as my disc already showed the game as being downloaded. So, given this info, HMX very well could make it so that all previous songs could be downloaded for free for each copy of RB1.
I personally feel this is what's going to happen. I think that the reason there isn't a European or Australian release of RB1 is that they knew RB2 was going to follow so soon afterwards (obviously they've been working on it for quite some time if their announcing the game with barely 3 months lead time...RB1 was announced in April '07 and the release date was made until much MUCH later), so why push the development when your next version will appear around the same time? And before people start crying that its stupid that RB2 will arrive without RB1 being released in their region, let me direct your attention to Metal Gear Solid. It was the 3rd game in the Metal Gear series, yet no one complains that they are missing the original 2 games. I see it like this. They will make all the RB1 songs available as DLC for those who purchase RB2 and don't have RB1. And that is where my idea of them allowing free downloads of those with authenticated copies of RB1. It would be totally unfair to force all of us who bought into the game early to have to purchase the first versions songs all over again just so we can keep the idea of a "gaming platform" alive.

I didn't consider the album aspect to this. Also just collections from a particular artist in general. For example, I would want "Won't Get Fooled Again" to be right next to the other 12 songs from The Who coming when playing RB2.
Or the fact that Foreplay/Longtime will be missing from the Boston album lineup or the Pixies song, or any other "album" they decide to release that's missing a key song due to its inclusion on RB1 disc.

Yes, we need the disc songs to transfer over somehow.

Exactly. Then if theres an RB3, the original RB1 songs would be available for RB3, if HMX keeps the universal DLC idea that they are doing with RB2. Makes the most sense

Interesting. I hadn't read this before.
"All prior versions of "Rock Band" instruments, as well as many from the competing "Guitar Hero" franchise, will also be compatible with "Rock Band 2."

Could just mean the same guitars on ps2 and 360 that worked for RB1. It would be nice if it did mean greater compatability than what we have, but I'm not betting on it.

I wouldn't either, especially if that doesn't flow in both directions. Seriously, if it's one way, why would anyone buy the Rock Band 2 bundle, and not the GH:WT set?
