View Full Version : My Preview for GH3: Songs, Guitar, Demo and Gameplay

Well there's been a gh3 demo thread, most probably, (I think took a little break from here cos I was more busy with some other stuff) but I just wanted to write my little in-deep preview of whats to come from one of the most revolutionary brands of all time. As you well know, my opinion on the RB vs GH3 debate switches a lot, but I'll try to take the middleground here.
Graphics: The demo is apparently running on the final engine, so then I'm left to comment that the graphics looked... nice. An unusual word to use because well it has its positives and negatives. Although it all had that next-gen sheen I sorta WANTED the bare basics back. The face of the singer, whenever I was watching, sorta got annoying, and the sluttyness of Judy Nails didn't seem jokey anymore. I wanted that "Harmonix effect", like Neversoft famous for some jokey bits in the THPS series, but their little intermission style place for bassist jokes and the like weren't quite as funny. Anyway thats not graphics so I'll get back onto point.
Good graphics, although I didn't like the style, its not that I'll be looking at is it?
Sound/Tracks: The tracks really do look exciting, and although "The Metal" certainly isn't Tenacious D's best, I enjoyed it, and really enjoyed "Even Flow". It appears the track list is long enough for it not to disappoint, and with more tracks on the way its looking good.
Gameplay: The biggy ladies and gentlemen. Considering I've been begging for difficulty to Rock Band I thought the guitar aspect really would blow RB out of the water - it appears not. I'm sure many have said but its way too forgiving. You watch Even Flow it looks like its got a fair amount of difficulty, but its so easy, I'm not the best player ever but I got 98% - I can't do Jordan and I can barely do Freebird...
I'm still going to get it, but watching Through the Fire and the Flames again shows you that its not going to be as difficult as first thought. Many will be happy to see more hammer ons and pull offs but its just not to the standard HMX did it for the first two games. And considering I called Rock Band the "jack of all trades, the master of none", it appears I MAY just have got it wrong.
Obviously I can not judge 100% without the finished product, but it appears that with Rock Bands many more customisable features, the Fender license (well its my fave in Gibson vs Fender, just opinion i suppose), and that it looks less forgiving in the hammer on department (I'd be scared to see what GH3 with hyperspeed would be like... TOO EASY!) means that really the only thing I see GH3 having an advantage over is tracks. But Rock Band is getting DLC...
So if HMX deal us something good for DLC prices well GH3 looks a little cruddy.
Rock Band 3-2 Guitar hero (dock one for GH if you live in America, I'm taking the release date advantage as a point for GH).

A fair review? Do post :) GH2master over and out.
EDIT: Cancelled my GH3 preorder, I'm ordering Orange Box instead. :D

i wasnt blown away by the demo, but i will still get it. I liked the fact that the game was a little forgiving and that the HO/PO's were a lot easier. I am not the greatest either. I can 5 star all hard songs and beat most Expert songs, but i dont want to be freaking murdered when it comes to gameplay. I really look at it as a party game and really enjoy playing with friends. So i will get it no matter what.

I agree with most of the OP but I'm still going to get it. I don't know why but I need a new fix of GH.

You know I really didn't find the HO/POs any easier. I see why some people think that, but I must not play the same. Actually now that I think about it I play pretty late. I'm pretty sure I lag a little bit with my strums and hopos because the music is usually just a tiny tiny hair after the notes and I just go a little late. But no one else thinks that way so. Yeah. :D

I was going to get GH3 until I witnessed RB first hand on tour today (I didn't spoil the surprise completely and play it). The graphics and style blow GH3 out of the water, and the songs look much more fun to play than the ones I have played on the GH3 demo.

How do you preview a demo. Most demo's don't play the same as the finale product.
At least this isn't your review , i'll give you that,or is it?

The songcharts and graphics used in the demo are at final stage. This is by no means my review but its damn close just gimme a preview of online and the more "difficult" songs and I'll give it ya :P (Though GH3 comes month late in the UK)

Well I took the plunge and got Orange Box, which finacially means I can't get GH3 until start of December, which is pointless because then comes xmas when I can ask then.
I'm still not sure about it... but right now I'm more pissed bout no EU release til next year cos I'm proper excited that the guitar aspect of RB MIGHT JUST BEAT GH3's. Now THAT would be funny.
EDIT: Forgot to say Half Life 2 and Portal freaking own I'm playing the HL2 episodes in order and I'll give team fortress a go later :P
