With DLC working on both titles, will people on Rock Band be able to play against those who are playing Rock Band 2? Example, I have Rock Band 2 and my brother just has Rock Band. We both have ...And Justice For All. Would we be able to play against each other with different games?

it would be totally sweet if the games supported this for all the gameplay modes that are found in both games. it wouldn't be possible for new gameplay modes only found in RB2, though (i.e. online BWT).

I would imagine that there will be no online compatability for RB1 - RB2. The Songs will work for each disc, but there will be different game modes and an improved matchmaking which will probably not allow RB1 to work with RB2

Sure...why not? It's the song that is the common denominator, and if you both have it....

Also, how many match ups do you get into where one or more of the players has little to no DLC. I don't think it would work.

I'm not talking about ranked matches; I meant strictly partying up with friends.

Imagine if the RB1 player had no DLC.
And the RB2 player had no DLC.

They wouldn't have a song in common to play lol. Unless they both got the free songs.

So they could jam to Still Alive and Promised Land.

I don't thinks its possible, I can't play Madden 08 against my cousin who has Madden 07, Same idea, its a different game, 2 people can't possibly play against each other in 2 different games. It just wouldn't work.

No...completely different. You can't share teams between Madden 07 and 08 like you can songs in RB 1/2.

I see no reason why a person with RB1 and a person with RB2 could not play mutual DLC songs together in on-line mode.

if that's the case, PS3 and XBOX360 gamers should be playing each online as well.

retroactive online game play probably won't happen. it could if they really hammered down some serious programming, but it's not even worth it. everyone will buy RB2 especially if they already have the first one, mostly because it's $60 instead of another $180+ bundle.

GH3 and Rock Band have some of the same songs, does that mean I should be able to play those together online? (obviously different but same concept) 2 different discs equal 2 different online experiences. RB1 and RB2 will be no different (Other than the fact that you can play the DLC on either of them, not both at the same time online though)

I mean its crazy to even think that it would be possible. Is it possible HMX let us know! I want to be right lol... I need some sleep lol (I've been up for too long sorry for my crazyness).... Tell me I'm right HMX!

Online play is facilitated by the console; not the developer. Xbox 360 and PS3 players can't play each other because they're games are on different servers. Not even close to a plausible comparison.

Again, no where near the same thing. "Obviously different but the same concept"? What an oxymoron. It's not the same concept. You can't use the Stratocaster with Guitar Hero III. If the hardware is incompatible then software could never be. Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band have similar tracks, yes, but they are charted differently. Rock Band and Rock Band 2 DLC will be the exact same files. Rock Band 1 and Rock Band 2 DLC is all Rock Band DLC. There is no difference. I concede to the point that for new features in Rock Band 2 not present in Rock Band that wouldn't be possible, but that would be the only plausible reason. Just evidenced by the fact the two games use the same DLC (an UNPRECEDENTED feat) proves that inter-game play isn't impossible.

Sharing DLC between games, which is something that happens on your console only, is a far cry from having two different games interface with each other over a proprietary network. I'm not saying it's impossible but it wouldn't be worth the effort, and the fact that the DLC is shared between the games has no bearing on the situation.

Simple version: They're two different games. Doesn't matter if they have the same levels/songs/race tracks.
