Basically last.fm is a music network where you download a plug in that is installed in your music listening program. After you listen to music, your last.fm profile is updated with all of your listening information and creates a database of your listening history. See mine to see what it looks like

It's extremely cool being able to look at what your most listened to songs are and exactly what your favorite bands are. Just check it out, maybe make a profile there and give it a try. It also has radio stations that allow to listen to whatever artists you want and the likes. It's very cool. Add me as a friend if you have one.
