View Full Version : Ever broke down and finally painted your Guitar Controller?

I always saw the ones on score hero and other places and thought man... That's a little bit too much in love with the game, and a little lame too.
Then... It just hit me, I was playing it and I was like, You know what? I want to paint my guitar. So now it's outside in the garage letting the paint dry on it and tomorrow I'll paint the tuning "buttons" and throw on some clear coat, I'll be sure to post pictures of it as soon as it's complete. I won't be coloring my frets though because I like my family members to try the game out and sometimes they need to look at the buttons.
So... The big question is, Have you ever done anything cool to your GH controller and never bothered to show anyone? I'd love to see the ideas you guys have came up with, either stickers or a new paint job, heck even button mods. Show them off in this thread :p

That'd be hot man. I won't take my strat apart for a good while though, it's sexy as is. But i'll end up paint it eventually.

I painted my GH1 SG with a dark green body then black pick guard, neck, and headstock. Got it signed by Dave Navarro at the GHII public launch party here in L.A.

My cousin actually did it one time and it turned out pretty badass. I would never have the patience to do it though.

Are you kidding me. That was the cool, hip thing to do when GH first came out. I've done many a paint jobs for myself and friends. My best was one where I did for the ex. It was White with a metallic flake blue pickguard. Pink, yellow, and purple sillouetees of butterflies, stars, and her name.

My buddy bought a cheap cherry Gibson SG and is right now in the process of gutting it and adding all the GH controller's inards. When it's done I'll post a pic. So far it's looking pretty damn sexy!

Thanks, anyone can do it man. All you do is take every piece out of the guitar, then when you have the body and the neck seperated you sand it down. Spray a light coat of paint on it first so you can still see the original colors, let it sit about 15-20mins. Then lay on the final coat, then when that dries add the clear coat (which I didn't bother to do, I might sand it down and repaint it the same color but use clear coat after it wears out, no big deal). I used a $3 paint can from walmart to do the top and bottom. It was Krylon paint, turned out very well. Thinking about getting a blue paint for my other guitar now.
Oh and nice paint jobs Ibane :p

I'll hold off painting the strat, then when I get tired of it i'll sand down just the body and paint it.

I painted my Xplorers right after I got them. Now I'm trying to un-paint them because sweat and constant wear have burned through the clearcoat and the paint around the strummer. :(

Hmm. What kind of paint did you use. I've had my SG painted for a very long time and the clear coat is just now wearing down. The paint has outlasted the SG, actually.

Krylon fusion spray paint with a Krylon clear.
The rest of the guitar was immaculate after 6 months use, but the strum/whammy area was just toast and made the whole thing look bad. Now I'm trying to strip it back to the white shell which is hella difficult.

Have you tried a fine grit wet sand?

I think that would do it, but I don't have any on hand and haven't had good reason to visit the hardware store lately.
I also have multiple layers of problems since I spilled super glue all over the body trying to lock the droopy whammy bar in place.

...Just get a new guitar man lol, I think I rather spend 30 bucks then go through all that trouble :(

It'd be the coolest thing ever to turn my controller into Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstrat, but the damn controller is an SG.

Well I finally broke down and got some 1500 grit sandpaper and it seems like too fine a grain for removing my paint. All it did was scuff off some of the clear.
Back to the drawing board. Most effective removal so far has been a razor and some rubbing alcohol, but messy and time intensive.

you might as well just get a new guitar for the same price and without effort, then you would have two controllers, and you could let guests use the crappy one. ;)
