View Full Version : Only two song leaks so far, right? Now, for a couple song rumors...

Magnet

I think the only leaks we've seen at the forums so far were Foreplay/Long Time and Next To You from the pre-order box, but those are practically unpreventable unless you want to announce all of the songs on the box ahead of time.

Warning: everything that follows should be considered rumor.

Rumor that I believe is very reliable...

One other leak I've personally come across was from a guy who knew about the previously unannounced "Green Grass and High Tides" and one currently unannounced bonus track. I wouldn't break any NDAs or anything by posting the bonus track, but I'll play it safe and just give a hint because leaks are usually uncool and less satisfying ways of getting this information. I don't want to take anything away from when it does get announced officially (and I think it will, since the "Green Grass and High Tides" half turned out to be reliable), especially since I have no proof. It's taken from an animated comedy TV show. And I don't think it's immediately obvious which show it is.

Update... since apparently IGN is announcing everything on Friday anyway, I'll post what show the song is from tomorrow (probably around 3:30pm EST - if you really need to know when). I will say that no guesses on the first page are right.

Update 2... the show is South Park and the song is Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld. Kudos to Edgehopper for being the first to guess it!

I have no idea of this rumor's reliability...

The other thing in the vein of song info. (this one has no connection to what was posted above) was an e-mail someone sent to Made in Mexico. I'm not sure if this has been posted on these forums before, and I have no idea how reliable it is (I found this e-mail posted on another forum so I can't know if it's completely real). It suggests that while MiM will not be in the retail disc (I'll pause for the cheering), their entire new album coming out around January is planned as DLC content (I'll pause for the three people in the back row cheering excessively).

Well, confidentially, [REMOVED]. So we won't be in it. In reality, we are a band and we like to play, we never wanted to really be anything other than a band that plays clubs and puts out CDs or records etc. We have a whole new album's worth of some interesting music it is really a mix of some latin stuff and the regular ole whacky stuff we do. I think it will be out in about January and we hope you like it. The only way to play our music on Rock Band would be to download it on x-box and when the album comes out you could do that for any song. This game will revolutionize video games in general and we hope you love that too.

thanks for writing and take care,

~ j + MiM
- Show quoted text -

Note: Real or not, I felt it necessary to cut most of the first sentence out from the e-mail because it says "confidentially," and I don't think it's fair to MiM to leave it in. But that removed line basically says the gist of why they're not in Rock Band. I think most people can figure out why without any confidentiality being breached. You're all a pretty smart bunch.

not really, he mentioned that the show that the fictitious band is in has already been named in the forum. This narrows it down to 5 if you want to count Doug, which did not really get mentioned, just the beets.

think about how many fictitious bands are in each of those shows and you will realize how narrowed down it gets.

Going through the episode list, South Park candidates include:

Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld (most likely, and awesome)
Fingerbang (not likely given the genre)
Something by Christ+1 (unlikely given the instrument setup, particularly the lack of guitar and prevalence of piano)
The Getting *** With Kids song (unlikely based on instrument setup)
My Country 'Tis of Thee (Nearly impossible, but a great episode)
People Now (From the "Smug Alert" episode; unlikely, but it's got vocals and guitar. Not really by a band, though)

Other South Park songs generally aren't by fictitious in-show bands (i.e., most of the South Park Movie songs)

From the Simpsons--seems unlikely; there haven't been that many songs by fictitious bands on the show. Lots of songs, but I can't think of any sung by in-show rock bands; the B-Sharps come closest as a barbershop quartet.

From Family Guy (though it wasn't mentioned, this would be awesome): Evil, Evil Monkey. If we can't get it as a bonus, it'd be a great DLC.

Also, South Park seems a little more likely from the licensing side, since both Comedy Central and MTV are part of Viacom while Cartoon Network and Fox aren't.

So, my final guess is Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld, singing Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld

True, but Nickelodeon is part of Viacom as well, so that wouldn't rule out The Beets. I think Magnet's statement that none of the bands on the first page are right rules them out though.

Also, I know that Disney bought Jumbo Pictures (the company that made Doug) and made a new show out of it (Brand Spankin' New Doug), but Nickelodeon still retains the rights to the original show, and the episodes featuring The Beets are all earlier on, including the one where Doug and Skeeter go to a Beets concert, in season one.

To everyone doubting the credibility of this, that's fine. I don't blame you, I probably would too. Behold my awesome powers of deduction!

I hope you're right, though presumably the singer will have to do more than just shout "Timmy!" at random times. Probably has to cover the chorus background vocals. I'd also bet that they extended the song to a more full edition, a little like they did for Trogdor.

If correct, this is the best news of my day :)

I agree. The content of the lyrics is one thing, and I think parents can let that sort of thing slide, especially if its not as blunt. But mimicking a ******ed person might cross the line for most parents, and I'm not even sure I would enjoy pretending to sing it. It just seems...weird.

We've already got kids pretending to be coke addicts (Cobain and Courtney Love, for example), I doubt that screaming "Timmy" would push this past a T rating.

Seems plausible, but kinda underwhelming...

Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love were addicted to heroin. Not to mention you aren't giving yourself shots of heroin. Just songs with a lot of distortion and unclear lyrics. I hate that Hole song though... (or rather Hole in general)

yeah if they wanted grrrl power music they coulda done Liz Phair's "Supernova" or Veruca Salt's "Seether" though i prefer the former.

Judge for yourself. Someone lied to you.

My favorite is this one...

there is NO chance in hell that Timmy and the lords of the underworld are in rock band. I mean ZERO chance what so ever.

$10 Linoleum Knife by Mastodon or Go into the Water by Dethklok.

Go into the Water would be the greatest intro to a concert EVER
