First, I'm really excited about RB2 (as are most people here). I can't wait to see what's improved and new.

That said, I've spent a LOT of time tweaking my calibration - more than I'd care to re-live. Will our calibration settings be identical in RB2 as they are in RB1? If not, will be there be some sort of 'carry over your calibration settings and we'll convert them' option?

Thanks,
Ian

interesting you bring this up, vigilance......

i was thinking about this last night.... i was thinking it would really help calibration if the ...... whats it called......... the "circle" thing that scrolls across the screen during calibration could be sped up and down by the user.....

if we could slow it WAY down.... we could nail down a "general" area for the "tick" to occur....

then, by speeding it up and zooming in..... we should be able to "pinpoint" it down pretty good.

just random thoughts in my random brain activity.

i wish we had a setting that would let us save our calibration. that way if we moved the console to another tv and had that setting too we would be good. that way no more calibrating and you could just pick "Custom 1" or "Custom 2".

Because some of those defaults they have work on a couple tvs ive played on but most of the time i find myself having to do it manually over and over and over and over and over again.

Interesting thoughts there. I made a post a while back about calibration ( http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58690&highlight=calibration+tool ) that had some of my ideas too.

I'm curious to see what HMX comes up with - they're obviously very innovative so they may have something fancy we haven't even thought of yet.

That said, I'd love for my current calibration settings to either be accurate for RB2 OR have some sort of 'import' process if they've changed the calibration engine again.

Peace,
Ian

Quoted for emphasis. I move my console around (school, home, girlfriend's house, etc...) Right now I just keep a sticky-note in the box with the different settings, but it would be nice to be able to save my own custom presets in-game.

thats a great idea.

im the only one that has rockband for ps3 amongs my buddies... so my setup gets moved around alot.

this would be immensefully helpful.

How about using the singer's microphone to automatically detect the audio delay so we don't have to set it ourselves? We'd only need to set the video delay then.

I've heard that suggested before. Is there any reason that wouldn't work in a real application?

I'm thinking if the mike had lag then it could introduce false results.

Ian

My audio receiver came with a microphone and it auto-detects where the speakers are and adjusts sound levels and such. I'd imagine this could work the same way. Of course you'd still have the options you have now in case it doesn't work *for your setup*, but for the vast majority it should work fine. With a wired microphone, the mic lag should be a known quantity.

What receiver do you have? That's a pretty nifty feature.

My receiver has that feature too... Sony STRDG910 [Or something like that coding]

It's an Onkyo receiver. But I think many of the mid-to-upper end receivers have this ability. It can tell the distance of the speakers away from where you are sitting (where you put the mic) and then it adjusts the volume for them so they'll sound balanced. Presumably it figures it out based on the amount of time between when the receiver sends out the sound and when the mic picks it up. That's pretty much what Rock Band could do to set the delay.
