Oh mah gawd! I can't ****ing wait!
I'm curious to hear what song he's referencing because it can't be GGaHT since this is the singer of IGN's band talking and he said it was surprisingly difficult for him. Considering GGaHT has like only two minutes of vocals it can't be that.

Probably true, but we would like to think that it would hurt them? even tho I don't think it really matters because we all get the win with two companies trying to compete for the best songs.

I just don't think they'd have the same Band in two songs of the Main List. Seems like a waste when you have all that DLC capability.

While I definitely would love some Zep...just basing this on the past, normally when there's a group of songs announced all at the same time, none of them are HUGE songs...good songs, yes...but not huge. I would think they'd save the huge songs for their own seperate announcement, but who knows, maybe they still will.

10-24-2007, 02:41 PM
if you think about it IGN will only be announcing I think 7 songs, if the song by the Outlaws is main setlist song which I think it is. 7 songs is still a good amount though so i'm pretty pumped. With the recently announced songs being pretty much unpopular tunes (I mean flirtin' with disaster, coheed and cambria, rem, the outlaws aren't exactly blockbuster tracks) i'm expecting these last 7 tracks to blow us away. I don't mean AC/DC Led Zeppelin blow us away, but you catch my drift.

I expect at least 4-5 good bands, but song-wise there may be some downers. But on the same note there could be hidden gems. I'm curious to see what's in store, but I'm trying to keep expectations at a medium level in fear or being disappointed.

Maybe they've done tests, and found that revealing the final set list puts you into a shock-induced coma for 48-72 hours, in which case they want to wait until closer to Sunday, whereas if they announced it tomorrow, someone could recover in time to go get GH III. Just a thought.
On the other hand, if there were some really big songs left to announce, I have a feeling IGN would be hyping up their Friday announcement (particularly since they know the songs already, and would know if they were big or not). They told us a few days ahead of time about their amazing Rock Band week, in which they proceeded to give us 4 days of crappy information. Why then is there no need for advanced notice of Friday's huge news?

Iron Maiden (We need some metal, and IM has pretty much the best metal vocalist besides Dio. Plus, more good basslines FTW.)
Kansas (Personal preference, but EVERYBODY loved Carry On Wayward Son from GH2, so another song from them would be awesome.)
Queen (Because we still don't have an obvious vocal final encore)
Cream (Awesome guitar, bass, AND drums? Yes, please.)
Yes (See description for Cream, now with humorous double meaning!)
Led Zeppelin (seriously, I don't even need to explain)

As psyched as I am for this, it's kind've a dickhead move to intentionally steal GH3's thunder like this a day before it's released, considering HMX's (previous) idea that GH and RB can coexist.
Maybe they're finally acknowledging that this actually is going to be a battle between the two titles, but it just seems a pretty rude way to do it from my view.

ohmanohmanohmanohmanohman....
It's going to a be a rough 24-36 hours.
My prediction:
After analyzing the announced set list, they seem pretty good on southern rock, classic rock, and alternative rock. I think we're going to see 3 or 4 metal songs announced, because that's what would get the general internet population worked into a frenzy the most. These would range from 80's to current metal. I then think we'll get 2 megabands. Zep, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Queen, etc...those types. After that, 1 or 2 wild cards. Could be Pearl Jam to add to the alternative list...some oldies rock song perhaps...maybe something I'm not expecting at all, who knows...
Going off that break-down, here would be my dream list of bands announced...
Tool (counts as metal for Rock Band genre break-down, I know it's not true metal)
System of a Down
Deftones
Iron Maiden/Megadeth (either one, just for some older type metal)
Zep
Pink Floyd
Pearl Jam
Man that would rock so hard. And DEFINATELY shake up Guitar Hero nation...imho.

I'm still saying that a couple more 60's songs are needed.
I mean... they have 1... and it's not exactly a BIG one.
If you're gonna promote that you have songs spanning from the 60's to today... have more than one song from that decade.

The iTunes thing is/was a bitter issue with them.
iTunes is owned/run by Apple
The Beatles record company was called Apple Corps
...a lawsuit ensued, however, they have since settled.
As such, iTunes has now begun releasing albums and songs from the solo careers of Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.

I'm like everyone else in that I hope they drop some monster band or song on us but I wouldn't get my hopes up. I'm not saying it couldn't happen but chances are your going to have huge expectations and then when you see it your going to be dissapointed and take it out on IGN again. If you don't expect to see a Zeppelin song or AC/DC song or something to that magnitude on there and something crazy like that happens then you will be thrilled to see it but not super disappointed when its not on there. I just think everyone is getting a little too excited and setting themselves up for a big let down. Stay cool

I'm hoping for
-Just some hard guitar songs. I really don't care if they are well known, just a few hard ones to fill the last tier.
-Rock Lobster by the B-52s (It would be a little too fun to sing this one I think..........)
-Some Megadeth and/or Iron Maiden (There needs to be a little more metal, since we already know that most of the setlist isn't)
-Some Queen
And of course I agree with most of the big bands, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
I really just hope these will be some good songs, hopefully hard.

I agree. They would be all over it "OMG wait till you hear this news on Friday!!!!!"
If they threw something out of the blue like something from The Cars out there I would be pretty psyched but I'll guess and say it wont blow a lot of you away. Still be cool to know the full list in any case even if it's just more Molly Hatchet tier stuff.

The Beatles record company was called Apple Corps
...a lawsuit ensued, however, they have since settled.
As such, iTunes has now begun releasing albums and songs from the solo careers of Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.
I don't think that's really the issue. If the Beatles, collectively, were bitter about Apple Computers breaching their agreement, then it would follow that the individual Beatles would also not agree to having their solo work on iTunes.
If you are implying that its Apple Corps top executives that refuse to cooperate with iTunes, then why is Beatles music hard to license for everything else? It's hard to find it on TV or in movies, and is nowhere to be found on other online music stores. As far as I know, Apple Corps only owns the publishing rights to some Beatles songs, with Sony/Michael Jackson owning the rest. Not really sure how that all works though. Also, Apple Corps was founded by the Beatles, so I don't know if these theoretical bitter executives even exist.
Unrelated...
As for the IGN setlist announcement, I think there are only 8 songs left to announce, two of which are Next To You (The Police) and Foreplay / Long Time (Boston). So, basically, there are 6 songs we don't know about. On the one hand, I think that maybe some of those other 6 could be good songs (based on the other two, The Police and Boston ones, being decent/big name groups), but on the other hand, IGN accidentally leaked Foreplay/Long Time last week, and maybe they don't consider any of the other remaining songs to be that great, and therefore aren't hyping up their big announcement. Who knows.

Not really expecting anything big. I'm going to call it - not what bands they'll probably announce, but what bands WON'T be in the game at all:
Tool
Queen
The Guess Who
Crossfade
Breaking Benjamin
Slipknot
Testament
Megadeth
Mudvayne
Opeth
Billy Idol
Lamb Of God
Kittie
Electric Light Orchestra
AC/DC
Pantera
What band/songs to expect? Maybe some Air Supply-Making Love Out Of Nothing At All, Pat Boone's version of Tutti Frutti, perhaps Simon & Garfunkle - Feelin' Groovy, and almost a given: Presidents Of The United States - Peaches.
Yes, almost a guarantee, Friday will be a disapointing day for rock band.

"I Believe in a Thing Called Love" was in KR.

I hope there's some Bad Brains, Sonic Youth or The Stooges. I doubt we're going to see anything too huge or they'd be hyping the announcement up more.

Oh god, please let it have the Cure...
How many of the 45 songs are still missing? Six?

It's subtle, but I'm detecting a teeny bit of sarcasm in that post.

That's just the "I'm going to post everything that I want to see in the game and say it's not going to be in the game but I'm really hoping it back fires and it really is in the game." post. :p

I'm hoping at least 1 of them is some sort of guilty pleasure/80s glam rock type song, because that seems to be lacking. I know metal is lacking too, but in this case, I hope it stays that way. ;)
Guilty pleasure/trashy 80s songs:
Pour Some Sugar On Me (Def Leppard)
Nothin' But A Good Time (Poison) <----I know this was in the 80s game, but who cares
*** On Feel The Noise (Quiet Riot)
Something like that. Or maybe some other arena rock songs, to really get into and go crazy with (e.g. We Are The Champions)

The only 80s Glam rock that should be in Rock Band is Def Leppard or 'Kickstart my Heart' by Motley Crue

This is quickly devolving into an ultimate setlist topic as it seems the conversation has been exhausted on the subject. To continue the discussion please visit this forum. (http://community.rockband.com/vbforum/forumdisplay.php?f=9)
Besides, everyone already knows that Pearl Jam and Megadeth are among the unannounced songs. ;)
