The IGN podcast, "Three Red Lights" during their fan mail QA session has stated that the IGNorant Sluts have tried the wireless GH3 controller with Rock Band and it DOES work.
You can hear the podcast here: Three Red Lights Podcast (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/830/830041p1.html)
Between 26:50 - 27:40.
They state it DOES work but you aren't able to control any of the effects (wah, reverb, etc.) with the controller and it will always play in the "normal" effect mode.

That's nice, I guess. I only care about the other way, though. I'm not buying a LP. Good news for people buying GH3 soon, though.

Cool. Although, I'm still waiting to see if it works the other way around.
I mean, I can't get the instruments in any form besides the bundle...

Sweet. This was all I needed to know.
This means that the GHIII Les Paul is going to make one sweet bass for Rock Band.

I'm sure it will but I'd HIGHLY doubt the higher note buttons at the bottom of the neck would work the way they do with Rockband in not having to strum when using those.

Yeah that's what I plan to do. You really can't hear the effects on the bass guitar so I'm going to use the GH3 one for the bass guitar for RB and the Fender for lead guitar.

Does this apply to PS3? I'll need a bass... GHIII guitar would be nice.

Call me authentic, but I can't see myself using a bass-controller that's smaller than the guitar controller...

Right now that's the only option, if it even works, for PS3. Or use the RB guitar for bass and make the guitarist use the GHIII one. :D

But you'll use a a drum set that's shorter than your guitar laying flat?

NICE! So anyone that is dying for wireless guitars on the Xbox 360 (or extra guitars on any system, for that matter) is satisfied. :)

I know. I'm doing option B, though: wait till RB and use the strat to play GH3. I can understand why you wouldn't want, though. This is just my plan.

My bass is about as long as a 3-piece drum set. Besides, e-drums are small anyway.
And who said I wasn't going to mod my drum kit to be as big as a regular kit? ;)

That is what I was planning also. I see it as a $99 Wireless bass guitar with a bonus game of GHIII.

That's what I'm doing too, but I plan on trading the GHIII disc back in when I pick up Rock Band to get ~30 dollars or so.

Awesome news! One great thing to come out of Guitar Hero III is the Les Paul and I cannot wait to try it out in Rock Band!

Size confusion. How large is the RB guitar and the GH3 guitar compared to the old GH2 Xplorer guitar? I hope the RB one's not considerably longer... I have to play with it flat on a tray table due to physical disability, and said table's only so large...

The LP is roughly the same size as the Xplorer. Not sure of the Strat... just that it is larger than both of them.

The Strat is about the size of a 3/4 scale guitar, so it's longer than previous guitar controllers. You may need to get creative with your setup. Maybe some wood blocks and straps to level it out on the tray table?

Great to hear, I'm glad it is finally confirmed! I hope that it obviously works the other way as well, I don't see why it wouldn't. Now I am really happy, my GH III purchase will pay off.

Hrmm. An extension's plausible, or a second tray table next to the first. My concern at that point is that it may be too wide for my armspan to comfortably get from the frets to the strum... I guess I'll know on the 20th for certain or not...
If all else fails I can stick with my XPlorer, or go pick up a GH3 'tar. No effects switch, and the Star Power Button (select) is ridiculously small on the xplorer, but it'll PLAY.
Drums are adjustable, thankfully, and a mike's a universally usable tool.

Don't forget that you have the "solo" buttons that you can use for the rest of the song as long as you strum. =)

It looks like it will be less than 6 inches added, so that's what you should probably plan for.

Screw that I'm much more concerned about the Strat working for GH. No way in hell do I want a fugly Les Paul.

This is the ultimate question, which needs to be answered. I don't have a PS2 any more, and I want my classic GH!

It looks a little bad but if the reviews are right this is going to be the most comfortable guitar since the SG.

I actually found the X-Plorer to be more comfortable, since I could rest my forearm on the side of the guitar while playing. :D

I bet fifty bucks that the RockBand Strat will work the same way it does in Rockband with Guitar Hero. When you play GH with a controller, you don't have to strum. They basically programmed the higher buttons on the Strat as if they're being played from a controller...
And how am I 100% sure of this? I knew a long time ago that the GH3 wireless controller would work with Rock Band, because it just maps the buttons of a controller and whatnot. People saying that the programming may be different for either game and would cause incompatibilities are complicating the whole situation wayyyyy too much.

I'm going to guess that you're not 100% sure of this. The higher buttons on the Strat are actually identical to the lower ones in functionality. You can use them like normal fret buttons throughout the rest of the song besides the solo. So the no-strumming thing is completely interpreted by the game during the solo sections only. It's not built into the controller like you're 100% sure about. Everything about not having to strum is determined through the software, not the hardware.

Upper notes only play without stumming during solos. There is something in software that detects this.

The GH2 demo in OPM could NOT be played with a controller, and the third party controllers did not work at first either. It's certainly possible to do. Especially since he who sells the most hardware, makes the most money. If RO can make the Les Paul work in RB and prevent the Strat from working in GH3, they can make people want to buy 2 LPs instead of 2 Strats.

I'm honestly believe at this point that the Les Paul will work with Rock Band... THANKS HARMONIX!
However, I'm not buying a Les Paul, so I swear, Activision had better come to the table with Strat compatibility.
