View Full Version : What's your opinion on the "revealed" Rock Band 2 songs?

They aren't confirmed obviously - we don't know if they are even in the game on disc, or if they'll be DLC, or if they were put in there just to screw us all over, but what do you think about the (20 songs?) that have been leaked from G4? Personally, I think it's decent - 75% or so. Some songs in there that I don't know why ARE in there, but there is some good variety.
For those who haven't been on the forums for the last week, the list can be seen here.

I'd like to see more classic rock, but I guess we have all the DLC plus all of RB1 disc content plus this so, yeah, this looks pretty good.
Pinball Wizard for sure.

i think the list does seem somewhat real but it doesn't seem "epic" to me as Harmonix has been braggin about. I mean no Metallica or GNR on there? But there still are 20 unannounced songs but 12 or 13 will be bonus songs and another 7 will be master tracks from good bands hopefully

It's looking pretty solid.
That, and assuming the second rumor list is true, they've already matched RB1 in terms of Canadian musicians, so therefore I'm happy.

There should be 80 or so songs on-disc, so we actually still have about sixty songs left to be announced.

Wiki took down most of the "leaked" list and it looked like BS to me. There were a lot of bands previously on RB not included in that list like BoC, and to me for all the boasting that was done it doesn't match up. I've never seen HMX make a claim to have the greatest playlist seen or anything close to that and RB 1 has a better catalog on disk then the supposed RB 2 list. So don't believe until it is confirmed by HMX.

I still don't think that second half is true, but heck yes if it is. One Step Closer = win, in my opinion. There is better LP, but there is also so much worse. Glad they picked a good one.

To be honest I was more impressed with the first 20 or so leaked songs than the later 40. In my opinion, the setlist is lacking promine reent metal and classic rock bands. Motorhead, Dream Theatre (?), The Who, Megadeth are wins while the rest is quite mediocre (in my opinion).

We still have ~20 songs left to go, if the 80 number is to be believed, and the REALLY big songs (Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, AC/DC, U2, etc.) are probably only allowed to be played by longtime Harmonix employees, for the reason this thread exists: random playtesters WILL leak the game, regardless of NDAs. Imagine if they had Helter Skelter or Achilles' Last Stand as playable songs and Harmonix had a massive reveal planned for them (because, let's face it, a LZ confirmation would dwarf the rest of the setlist COMBINED) , and some random dude leaked it?

The Trees? Dammit? Spirit In the Sky? Ramblin' Man? Today? MASTER EXPLODER???
There's some really, really obscure choices and I definitely wouldn't call it "the best list in a music game ever" as that one dude did, but those songs up there had better be on there.
For the love of God, at least say Master Exploder is true.

Great songs. Problem is, there's no song so far that makes the game reach "HOLY ****ING ****" level. Everlong was very, very close. Any Way You Want It was just under it.
Just a list of "solid" songs for me.
EDIT: Oh and that supposed leak of 60 is terrible for casuals IMO. Too many obscure choices and does not fit in the whole "Who's who of Rock music" that was claimed in the set list. Heck, that leak is worse than RB1 set list. The only one that blew me away was Tangled Up In Blue, and even that was an obscure choice for a Dylan song (hello, Like A Rolling Stone?). It's just very hard to believe that's anything close to what the real set list is like. It reads more like an upcoming DLC list.

The obscurity of the songs are just about the same with RB1.
If I had to rat on a scale of 1(meh) to 10(spectacular), this song list would be about an 8.

Eh, the 60-song list doesn't seem real to me. They said they would be putting in new genres, and I see the same-old same-old for the most part. That, and none of the songs are really awesome. Sure, I'd love to see Tangled Up In Blue and Hungry Like the Wolf on RB2, but this list just isn't the "who's who in rock music" I was expecting. I mean, Lit? Really?

But what would a teenager today recognize? Like A Rolling Stone or Tangled Up In Blue?
And let's face it, some of those artists fall under the one-hit wonder or "who the hell?" categories. It just doesn't seem like the "all-star" studded cast that Harmonix says they have acquired. I'd hate to think the best songs were leaked already (The G4 screen), because quite frankly those songs are better than all the ones that we didn't know on that supposed 60-song list. I would seriously reconsider buying the game if those songs were in the final list.

I'm stoked to see songs by Bikini Kill, Bob Dylan, and Alanis in the game. I'm not going to lie, though: what is with HMX and their constant aversion to including some ska and goth rock in their games? I mean, 1/4 of the entire Rock Shop is dedicated to goth fashion. You'd think HMX at least add one Cure song, at the very least, to keep the goth fans happy.
EDIT: After overlooking the list again, it does seem pretty unrealistic, for one reason only: I strongly doubt HMX was able to get a hold of a master track for the Dead Kennedy's Holiday in Cambodia. Jello would never allow something like that to happen.

07-05-2008, 12:59 AM
i saw no 60's songs. so much for HMX's "spread" over 5 decades. they had ONE, count em, ONE song on disk for 60's. f'ing pathetic. they with 35 more songs and a buttload more experience, i expect at least 10. if we dont get that and GH does, well, lets just hope HMX comes up big

As far as 60's songs . . . maybe the fact that not very many bands recorded their masters like HMX needs them is stopping the process?

I know it isn't I was just saying, when it comes to ON-DISC, you have to pick a song that satisfies the most people. It's simple efficiency.
As for the OHW's and some I've never even heard of, I'd probably include bands like Devo, Presidents of the USA, Bikini Kill, (arguably, since Vacation is pretty well-known) The Go Gos, Norman Greenbaum, Survivor, Squeeze, Lush, Static-X, Hot Hot Heat, Lit and Against Me.
Maybe I'm too young to recognize them, but they just aren't what I would consider bands that really deserve to be on the Disc. On Rock Band 1, the only band that I was really surprised about was The New Pornographers (and I'm Canadian, so I knew them but just didn't think they'd make the cut). Everyone else from RB1 I knew or at least heard of.
And hey, maybe the set list floats your boat. I'm just saying, it's not the kind of list I would say appeals to the masses. Just look at some of the DLC numbers on some of the lesser known bands.

The point I'm trying to make is that let's say we compare these two lists:
Guns N' Roses
Metallica
Bon Jovi
AC/DC
Muse
The Rolling Stones
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Fleetwood Mac
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Rush
Ozzy Ozbourne
Iron Maiden
Radiohead
The Clash
KISS
Weezer
U2
Queen
Audioslave
The Eagles
ZZ Top
Motley Crue
Bruce Springsteen
Dire Straits
Heart
Queen
Depeche Mode
Pearl Jam
Pantera
Cream
and then:
Devo
Presidents of the USA
Bikini Kill
Squeeze
Lush
Survivor
Social Distortion
The Dead Kennedys
Norman Greenbaum
Static-X
Hot Hot Heat
Lit
Against Me
George Thorogood
Talking Heads
Bad Religion
Which list on the back of the box do you think sounds better? I picked bands who I believe are accessible in the first-list, if I wanted a super-cast I woulda thrown in LZ, The Beatles, Pink Floyd etc.
Star-power sells. Let's face it, as good as the Pixies are (and this board widely acknowledges this), their DLC will never match up to that of a band or song that everyone has heard of (there's no way Call Me is as epic as Debaser). It's just the reality of today. The stats are there to back this up (DLCstats.com). Sure the bands on the second list deserve recognition for what they've done etc. You could even argue that they are better than some of the bands on the first list. But when you talk about a cast of songs that are on a disc, where these songs are unavoidable, it just doesn't fit. We have DLC to introduce us to this kind of music, the sounds that are otherwise ignored in the mainstream. That's the gift of DLC. But ON-DISC should be where you throw all your chips.
I'm sure Harmonix knows this, which is why the leak seems like such a stretch. And yes I know there are 20 more songs, even if this were to be true. But come on, do I really want to be forced to play through multiple songs that I don't enjoy to get to the great ones in the Solo Tour?
I'd love to see those songs in the leak hit DLC one day. But in my opinion, they just don't belong on the disc. I'm sorry if you disagree.

Well no matter what this may happen because like I mentioned before it's not tailored to you teenage tastes. Talking Heads are legends, so is George Thorogood and possibly Bad Religion(I only dabble in punk).

Once again, I agree wholeheartedly. And I fully expect to play songs I don't like. But I think the sheer amount of what I would refer to as "obscure" on this list is just too much, and unpractical.
And to be honest, I don't have teenage taste. Most of the music I listen to is from the 60's and 70's. I listen to everything really. I don't mind any genre or band. I can go from listening to Motown to Nu-Metal in a "Next Song" click. I have no particular bias.
