For those of you singers out there (I'm not particularly one, though I will sing a few songs) I was wondering what you guys are going to do for the girl singer songs. Or, if you're a girl, vice versa. I mean, for songs like Maps it's not a big deal, but Celebrity Skin? For a guy that would be really embarrassing to sing. You can't just skip it either in the Singer Solo Tour.
So, even if you're not a singer, but you're going for all the achievements (and your girlfriend won't play the game) how will you finish the Singer Solo Tour?????
HOW WILL YOU DO IT?????

Tuck my package between my legs and go at it... No but seriously I will just do it in the privacy of my own home when no friends are over

Actually I sing chick songs pretty well. Especially Maps. Guilty pleasure.
That said what happens to I Think I'm Paranoid and Gimme Shelter and any songs with a chick and a dude?

See I was kind of worried about this too because I want to go through the tour on vocals but (not to toot my own horn) I have a pretty deep voice for my age. Like Johnny Cash deep, not even kidding. I'm kind of boned on check songs, actually I'm kind of boned in any of the higher songs.

Even though Geddy Lee is a guy, would that be considered a girl song?

I'm pretty good at faking my way through singing high notes, so I'm not too worried. Plus I don't plan on playing Celebrity Skin that much. I'd be more worried about why a guy would want to sing that song, rather than how.
Plus you can always sing an octave lower, so it shouldn't be much of an issue.
Somewhat related, I was thinking yesterday, what happens when a guy sings a girl song in the game? Assuming us guys make guy singer characters, I can only assume that if you leave the master track vocal on, your virtual self will be sounding like a woman, which may look awkward in the game. Unless they don't let male singers pick the female singer songs, but I doubt that, because then it'd have to be the same way for female singers, and I doubt they'd enjoy having 2 songs to choose from.

i have never played any of the karaoke rev. games, so the following is only my guess.
i have been thinking about how the singing part works. how does the software know if you're too low or too high? especially since people have different voice ranges..
1. I know you won't need to sing at the same pitch as the singer in the song.
2. I think what they did (i'm going to use notes for an example) is have notes or note ranges for the singing part. so if "i'm a cowboy" is in the note "C" range and
"steel" (on a steel horse I ride) is in the "F" range as long as your voice is in those ranges it will work.
whether it's a low c or f
a middle c or f
or a high c or f
as long as you go higher in your pitch it will work, you don't have to match the singer.
ann marie, you're very attractive by the way.

Sorry, I would have replied to this before had I seen it, from the videos, your gender/appearance has no bearing on the song. The track plays and the characters lips still move in sync, world keeps on spinning.

I'm just gonna sing it like it's a duet (without harmony) and if I can't go that high, I'll drop it an octave and move along.

Well, I wasn't talking about IF you can sing like a girl. Obviously the game isn't going to fail you out because you sound like a guy in a girl song. :D My question was how are you going to sing in the Singer Solo Tour (songs you CAN'T skip) on songs that are about "girl stuff" (like Celebrity Skin). Some of you answered it, and I guess that's the only way TO do it: wait 'till no one's home, then go at it...

Speaking as a multiple Karaoke Revolution veteran, here's how it works.
Each time you enter a new phrase (which is either a line or half of a line) it resets its baseline pitch. Once you start singing it autodetects your pitch, and then only checks to see how high or low you are from that baseline, in relation to the notes.
That means if you have a deep voice you can still sing female vocals; it senses your pitch and maps it up to the notes. In fact, if you find some lines are easier for you to tackle by dropping or raising an octave from your normal singing voice, you can -- just make the change when the new line starts.
I had to do that a LOT in KR. I can sing in two pitches, one a bit more nasally but with more range, one lower and comfortable but not able to rapidly shift from high to low. So, I swap tones between lines, and it works. It sounds iffy, but the game doesn't mind at all.
So, don't worry. It'll sense your tone just fine regardless of the original singer.

Yeah, you can sing in whatever octave you want. You don't have to sing like the lead singer of Rush, you can sing like the guy from Crash Test Dummies... as long as you are on pitch.

Later in the song. He's in for like 3 verses and fades out for whatever the reason may be.

If Cake can do a kick-ass cover of I Will Survive, then you champs can make it through a girly song.

Doesn't matter if its 'girl stuff' - I'll sing the song just as I would any other. Home or away... its just a song at the end of the day.

Well, I'm wondering if your avatar's gender will have an influence on your songs..
Why would it?
You'll just be a male vocalist covering a female vocalist's song à la White Stripes's version of Jolene, to name one example off the top of my head.

I was wondering it also.... if a male avatar will be singing female vocals...
From the vids it always shows a male singing male vocals and a female singing female vocals.

Something like this in Celebrity Skin:
"When I wake up in my makeup
Have you ever felt so used up as this?
It's all so sugarless
Hooker/waitress
Model/actress
Oh, just go nameless "
Could get a girl or emo to sing it.

But I'm sure they did that so it would look "right" for promotional purposes
If you have a male singer he is gonna sing it. I was thinking about something. Everyone seems to love the emotion seen in the singing of Maps, how funny is it going to be to have a big burly rough looking male avatar singing that song with the same emotion.
