If tomorrow's announcement doesn't cut it with the new songs, I'll seriously reconsider buying this game. Yes, there are a few good songs, but far too many stinkers which are outweighing the good ones. It's like most songs in the game are of the same unbelievably crappy calibur as Girlfriend by Matthew Sweet in GHII. The game is too expensive to justify buying with such a weak selection of songs. True there's DLC, but if the direction they're heading (i.e. Grateful Dead) is any indication of what's to come, I am in no way interested. At least I have Mass Effect to look forward to. Am I crazy or is anyone else feeling like this?
*EDIT*
Okay, so now that the final setlist has been revealed, who's reconsidering the game? I changed my tune, but at the same time, I'm still very disapointed with the lackluster setlist and looking to future DLC for hope. I guess my definition of ROCK is completely different from those who made the list. It is heartening that a ton of people here were gunning for the same bands I was: Queen, Tool, Zep, Cure, AC/DC, G'nR. Maybe for DLC. Highly doubtful they'd add such well known bands for bonus tracks. Anyhoo, who's glad and who's sad?
Oh, and furthermore, I'm not some out of touch old man who only likes olde tyme bands. I love current bands, but most of them just happen to be death, black, metal and grindcore - all of which I think people are too wussy to want to play for this game.

Uh... You're serious, aren't you?
So you'd base your purchasing decision on these last 5 songs rather than the fact that you get to play drums and sing vocals and have weekly DLC coming to broaden the experience?
Ermm... Okay. Have fun with that.

Remember Guitar Hero II's final songs to be announced (besides bonus tracks)? It was Institutionalized and Carry Me Home. Now THAAT was a huge letdown. I'm hoping that there are a few gems still to be announced. If the caliber of songs to be announced is similar to Instutionalized or Carry Me Home I'll be very dissapointed.

and possibly LED ZEP!!

Sorry dude, after knowing that 'Sweet Child o' Mine' and 'Free Bird' were in the game. Having the last announced songs for GHII be a crappy spoken word song and some australian band I've never heard of was very dissapointing. What ever happened to saving the best for last? I was expecting something to trump those earlier announced songs.

i happened to like that song "girlfriend" by the way. I couldn't stop playing it. It was fun to sing and play that. Now if I can sing that to ann marie ticaric that'd be cool. (just kidding ann!!)
in any of these music games there are going to be songs you like and songs you hate. a friend of mine says he probably won't finish the game cuz he doesn't want to play bon jovi. whatever.
the reasoning behind the song selection (as per harmonix) are songs that "include" everyone having a part instead of just one instrument or another.
hopefully with MTV, they can get some ac/dc in there ! hint hint harmonix! i know you're trying though!

haha - exactly what I was thinking. Living End was what put me over the top excited for GH2.
Thats the risk that Harmonix runs by actually going out and getting the most talented bands and musicians in their respected fields - those who KNOW them go nuts, those who don't get upset - but in the end, hopefully the ones who get upset at least enjoy hearing some new music and learning about a new band.
I don't know what to expect from these last 5 songs, but I know one thing - they're in there because they're fun to play, and because they deserve to be. I'd take a song I've never heard of that turns out to be a great tune over a song thats only thrown in there to sell some more copies any day, but thats just me.

I don't think you truly mean that because I feel the same way. Until About 2 weeks ago, I was super psyched for this game. Then the news about all the BWT trouble sprouted up (still hoping Solo Tour = BWT). Then some new, not so how songs were announced (personally I have no problem since like 99% of the songs I thought I would never like from GH series I ended up actually enjoying when I had to play them, even Dead!, god help me.) But back to the songs, maybe you don't like GGaHT, or The Electric version, but it is just a tide of so-so news which bogged you down. Trust me think it over again, watch some videos, and look over the song info again, you'll feel better, I did.

In my opinion this is the best set list assembled by Harmonix. Gimme Shelter, Won't Get Fooled Again, Highway Star, Tom Sawyer, GGaHT, Paranoid, Foreplay/Long Time, Suffragette City and the possibility alone of having London Calling through DLC, it's overwhelming. That's just me though, I know there are people out there who feel the bad outweighs the good but for me there's only 2-3 songs that I'm not fond of but even then I can bear playing through them at least 3 times (for each career).

I agree that the best songs of the series (I'm ignoring GHIII) are on Rock Band, but they also got some of the worst ones too. Celebrity Skin, Maps, That song that has paranoid in the title and isn't THE Paranoid? Yea they suck, but the rest of the tracks are awesome.

im content with the track list, and i suppose that's because there's great stuff ahead with DLC. sure i wish there was a lot more great stuff included on the disc, and realize i'll have to pay more to get songs i want, but it wont break the bank.
i suppose it's a lot harder for the younger crowd that dont hold decent jobs.
but i do have to say that if youve been riding the rock band bandwagon this whole time, and only decide now that you dont like the game because of the final 5 or whatever songs, that's hard to comprehend.

The problem is, video games are more of a younger person's world.
Music...and good music and the people who make the games are all older.
So if you don't like the music...too bad...because the older music in the game is really the best part of the game. Amazing artists who write their own songs, who rock their instruments, who are individuals and are true legends and rarely sound like any other band...
I mean you turn on MTV and I swear to god it's the same song every time...that's how similar these bands are today...and everybody just eats it up... Fall Out Boy...give me a break.

If two songs are gonna make or break your purchase, don't buy it.
I'm not saying that as a fanboy, it's just pure logic -- if what the game has right now is not enough to justify the purchase then even if those last two songs were like, I dunno, Stairway to Heaven and Layla... you can't buy a game just for two songs. It'd be a waste of your money. You have to be okay with the majority of the setlist and the game's concept to have this be playable for any length of time.
Since you're at the point where make or break is the last two unknowns, just fold out. You're not going to be satisfied. Pick up the game after it's discounted, or just buy the standalone and play with your existing guitar, or just skip it and buy something you know you'll have fun with. There's no shame in changing your mind.

I would be thrilled with the game if it only shipped with the 40 announced songs. They do a great job of spanning rock-and-roll history. When they announce a classic hit, it's awesome. When they introduce me to a new song that I grow to love, it's even better.

My younger brother (who is going to end up my bassist Im sure!) just today said that he would have never started listening to Bowie if it wasn't for GH1.
First, I felt like a failure for not introducing him to Bowie sooner, but then it made me realize what a great job Harmonix does with these setlists. I'm 25 and he's 20, and I'm still starting to delve deeper into some bands than "just their singles" thanks to the selections in GH1, 2 and now Rock Band.
I remember my dad listening to Green Grass and High Skies when I was a kid, so I was super psyched to see that. The selection really does hit almost every genre and every era.

Blind Melon I liked
hell, Hootie & TBF I liked
Candlebox, Nirvana, STP
all good
but since the mid-late 90s theres been barely anything.
theres pop rock like 3rd Eye Blind and others I don't mind.
But anything thats getting any attention is pretty much all garbage.
Barely anything today has the feel, the soul, the guitar riffs/solos of yesteryear.

Calling other people close-minded can come across as being an elitist music snob as well, where "I like all music!" = "My taste is music is better than your's"
I, like you, don't hate modern rock music, I just don't think it's as great as music from years past. Not every rock song from 70s is great, but let's be serious, Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous is never going to hold a candle to anything Led Zeppelin ever did. It's ok to admit its just not as good.
I used to hate hate hate country music, but then Keith Urban came and did a concert here in Chapel Hill, and I had to work "security" as part of my fundraising for a student organization I was in at the time (we got to work "security" for all Dean Dome events, including UNC basketball games...basically you put on a "security" coat, and got to go stand near the court). Anyway, after seeing him perform live (I got to stand on the side of the stage), I actually had a lot more respect for him, and other country artists in general. Although, at least from what I saw at the concert, his style is a little more rock-ish.
Anyway, the point is I'm pretty open to any kind of music, but a line has to be drawn when you start comparing bands from today to legends of yesteryear. David Ortiz is a great baseball player, but is he as good as Babe Ruth. **** no.

I think it's pretty easy to be disappointed with the upcoming songs. A lot of us sort of have a 'save the best for last' mentality and with all the cool tracks announced so far we expect the final bunch must be absolutely amazing. But that might not be actual case. There is still plenty in the game for me to want it though even if it ends up that I don't know any of the remaining bands to be announced, but I don't want it that way of course.

I was in a pretty crappy mood all day today, and that may have influenced the inspiration to make this thread. I looked through all the songs so far, and marked all the songs I'm stoked for and the ones I think totally suck. It pretty much came out even (with most older songs being favored and newer being most disliked). Most songs I don't like I'll be able to suffer through, but probably the one song I'm detesting the most right now is Main Offender. Pun intended, that song is the "main offender" for me right now. The very idea that I'll have to play it over and over (since I don't know it that well at all) makes me woozy to think about. I'm most excited about this game as a singing game. I go to karaoke bars frequently, and love to ham it up. The drums I don't really care about, and guitar takes a far second to vocals. In my opinion, it's the vocal abilities of the singer that make a band great (hence my love for Queen). So, in reality it doesn't really matter whether the final songs suck or rock, I will be buying this game regardless. I usually really dislike The Rolling Stones, but Gimmie Shelter is a favorite even for me. Enter Sandman is a classic I've always loved and Creep is "my theme song". Anyhoo, I'll be rocking out with everyone else here (come Nov. 20th, please God!!!)

I like every song on here for one reason or another. Some of you are saying you don't like Maps, Hole, and I think I'm Paranoid but I think those are great because they are songs with girl singers which mean that my wife is going to give this game a shot. You don't have to play an instrument to play this game and that is awesome. Women will (in my experience at least) sing more commonly than they will try to play a video game. To be honest I was hoping to see some Heart or at least another girl singer song but who knows what the last five songs hold.

This really is one of the best set lists I have seen in any game. I had trouble with posting in the "3 fav/3 least fav" thread. My least favorite were not songs I hated, just a few song I was unfamiliar with.
Anyway, the last few songs could be anything, it wont matter. The game has already been sold to me......many times over.

Personally I was sold on this the day a friend asked me if I had heard about a game that was like Guitar Hero but with drums.
As for the songs, If I'm playing one I don't like I'll be to busy concentrating on the squares to notice and if I do like it I'll just get my usual buzz (I still get goosebumps on my arms while I'm playing the solo's on Sweet Child O' Mine)

I'm late to this thread. But there has to be something wrong with the OP if this is what will cause him to reconsider buying. Then so be it, you're not worthy for Rock Band!
Rock Band is one of the most innovative games of all time, literally. It's a completely new and fresh experience, and will be one of the hottest products out there as soon as it gets it's exposure to the general public.
The game isn't even friggin out yet. Hold off till you've at least played it somewhere to make the decision not to buy. As for songs, I don't think you realize what they meant by hundreds of songs to download.
They've put together an incredible list of TALENTED musicians, by the way you present your opinion, I doubt you really appreciate good music.

Only reason the latest songs are "dissappointing" is cause were all expecting Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, etc.
um no we werent all expecting huge names at the end....but who knows i guess we're gonna find out. I'm certainly not disappointed by Molly Hatchet or Outlaws--on the contrary these are both top 20 for me among the annouced tracks -cant say I've heard teh New Pornographers though...
Gotta say oh man I feel for the OP I'm sooo looking foward to this but I can imagine if I really, really didn't like any of the music --yeah bad situation!
...well I posted this before reading the entire thread--and OP are you serious now you're saying you're 50/50 with the list?!?! WTF is wrong with you ....I guess it's good news for you though that you now realise this.
Goddamn Its a Rock N Roll Miracle!!

BUT you have to admit that carry me home is fun to play :P
Carry Me Home is a cool song that is a total pain in the ass to play.

If they didn't add any other songs than the ones announced I would be more than enthused to pay more than $169 for the bundle. What's not to like?

Am I crazy or is anyone else feeling like this?
holy **** finally! i always felt this way man i only got excited when i heard about the drums then 2 months after that i heard all these crappy songs coming out for the game and they just kept coming im still going to get rockband to see what it is like but i will proboly be to busy with guitar hero 3 to play this game

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion and to decide how to spend your money but I think all this *****ing about the set list is ******ed. Sure some of the songs I love, some I like, some I haven't heard and some I hate, but who gives a sheet I'll play 'em all. Personally I think Bon Jovi is a cummy tummied phag, but I'll tell you right now I'll be wailing away on the drums to that song! Why, if you hate the song, you ask? Cause the gameplay seems tight, the premise kicks ass and cause it's another song for me to rock out to. You don't want the game, don't buy the game, me? I'll be doing my best Tico Torres impression while slappin the skins to this **** song.

No. And this isn't constructive conversation for the forums.

Or if a lock is too harsh, move to general?

With the high hopes I have for this games songs, I could easily be disappointed today with song announcements. This being said it could never change my mind about buying this game. It is too good not to get because of one or two songs that are yet to be in the game. Besides with all this DLC coming, I couldn't be happier. The fact that there are rumors floating around of Led Zeppelin as DLC is enough for me.
After I get this game, I really don't see myself playing any other game for a long, LONG, time.

Unbelieveably crappy? Why, not emo enough for you?
Matthew Sweet is awesome and Girlfriend is a great song. Superdeformed is a better song, but Girlfriend is good none the less.

That's the one of the wussiest "rock" songs of all time! Comparatively, Air Supply rocks harder. That song isn't rock enough for me. It's like a revisiting of the 60's crapadellic pop bands. Terrible song. Gunning for the Partridge Family are you?
